In this paper we describe MS-TCS, the telescope control system which was developed in Korea Astronomy Observatory. MS-TCS can control an equatorial type telescope equipped with stepping motors and incremental type optical encoders. MS-TCS consists of (1) POINT_TEL which is the program roning in a PC and (2) TCS-196 which is the electroics board to control the telescope. The communication between the PC and TCS-l96 is done through RS-232 or RS-422 serial line. MS-TCS can control the secondary mirror and dome. It also provide network function using TCP/IP for remote control of the telescope. MS-TCS is suitable for controlling medium to small size telescope for research and education.

Encircling gill net fishery is a kind of gill net which is generally used in shallow coastal waters. After the fish have been encircled by the gill net, noise stimulus such as a stone or sound is used to force them to gill or entangle themselves in the netting surrounding them. Although the fishing by a stone is a traditional fishing method, it is considered as an illegal fishing method by physical stimulus such as explosives and mechanical vibrator. However, this illegal fishing method has raised some problems to the fishing boat of other fisheries or many anglers due to disturb aggregating fish schools. This study is aimed to provide scientific base data to verify whether to impact the ecosystem caused by this encircling gill net. This study exhibited that the impulse noise by concrete sphere in the encircling gill net was 159 dB/μPa, the ambient noise from ship engine was 160 dB/μPa, and the maximum noise from continuous artificial vibrator was 175 dB/μPa. These may be stimulus to the escape of fish distributed in a wide area in its natural state; it is not likely the cause of death due to catastrophic stress. Therefore, it needs to prepare the consideration of standard limit on fishing stimulus in fishing methods of the fishery laws and regulations, prevent fishermen form using illegal fishing gear (i.e. explosive sound standards: 200~220 dB/μPa) and provide them with countermeasures.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions according to fuel consumption in the littoral sea fishery. The fishing boat in the Korean littoral zone is currently registered at 68.000 vessels, most fishing vessels are almost over 70% got an aged are concentrated between 10-20 years so that its engine efficiency is terribly poor. Fishing environment of hazardous substances and greenhouse gas emissions from the engine is a high situation. In study, it needs to build a database of greenhouse gas emissions by sector, and it will be the corresponding plan for carbon reduction in the fisheries by Tier-1 evaluation on IPCC 2006 Guidelines.

This study conducted a survey using a sampling inspection method and acoustic technique for continuous monitoring of useful organisms and non-commercial fish species distributed in the water of Gwangyang Bay, and evaluated the marine resources. In June, 2018, 38 species were caught in the shrimp beam trawl, comprising 3,594 marine organisms with a total weight was 65,415.3g. The acoustic survey showed that the nautical area scattering coefficient (NASC; ㎡/n.mile<sup>2</sup>) for the waters of Gwangyang Bay was highest in Transect 15 (1,655.5 ㎡/n.mile<sup>2</sup>) and lowest in Transect 1 (1.3 ㎡/n.mile<sup>2</sup>). The biomass was estimated to be 2,634.9 tons in the acoustic survey. This indicates that the acoustic survey method detected more fish shoals than the sampling inspection method.

In ground-based astronomical spectroscopic observations, there are many telluric absorption lines that are laid on the spectra of celestial objects. To study the physical properties of the celestial objects with these contaminated spectra, the telluric lines should be removed. A conventional method for removing the telluric lines is using the standard stellar spectrum as telluric line. In this paper, we introduce a technique to calculate synthetic telluric spectra and use them to remove telluric lines from a spectrum of a celestial object. We used Line-by-Line Radiative Transfer Model (LBLRTM) for calculating a synthetic spectrum and selected Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding (MIPAS) model as atmospheric model. We apply our method to some spectra obtained by Bohyunsan Observatory Echelle Spectrograph (BOES) to show that the telluric lines are well removed from the observed spectra by our model within an accuracy of 2% which is close to the 1-sigma rms of the original spectra.
Planetary companions orbiting K giant HD 208527 and M giant HD 220074

The purpose of the present study is to search for and study the origin of planetary companion by a precise radial velocity (RV) survey for K dwarfs. The high-resolution spectroscopy of the fiber-fed Bohyunsan Observatory Echelle Spectrograph (BOES) at Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory (BOAO) is used from September 2008 to June 2012. We report the detection of two new exoplanets in orbit around HD 208527, and HD 220074 with exhibiting a periodic variation of 875.5 and 672.1 days. The examinations of surface inhomogeneous are no related to the RV variations and Keplerian motion is the most likely explanation, which suggests that the RV variations arise from an orbital motion under the influence of planetary companion. We obtain the minimum masses for the exoplanets of 11.5 and 11.1 MJup with an orbital semi-major axis of 2.3 and 1.6 AU and an eccentricity of 0.08 and 0.14, respectively. From the literatures and our estimations of stellar parameters, the luminosity class of HD 208527 is changed K dwarf to K giant and the spectral type of HD 220074 is confirmed M giant rather than K dwarf. HD 220074 is the first M giant star harboring a planetary companion.

We present the development of a remote observation system runnig on world wide web (WWW). The system consists of a 30cm Schmidt Cassegrain telescope and ST-7 CCD camera. We built the controllers and drivers of the telescope and the control softwares including the network control. The self-developed techniques in the hard wares and softwares can be applied to other projects in Korea. Observers can access the system via WWW home page, to reserve observation times, to send control commands, to retrieve images and various information useful for observation. This system can be widely used by students and amateur astronomers as well as professional astronomers who need a lot of small telescope time.

The Antarctic krill Euphausia superba is important commercially and ecologically as a basic component of the Antarctic Ocean ecosystem. To manage this resource, it is important to determine the distribution and standing of krill in the water layer. Acoustic methods can capture information about the entire water layer quickly. Acoustic surveys were conducted from March 3 to March 14, 2017, using the commercial fishing boat Sejong (7,765 tons). Acoustic systems with a frequency of 38 kHz and a 200 kHz commercial echo sounder (ES70, Simrad, Norway) were used and the acquired data were processed using post processing software. The density and standing of Antarctic krill were determined using the two-frequency difference method, using the characteristics of two frequencies. To compare the frequency difference of krill, the method using the frequency difference according to the krill length, recommended by the Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR) and the values extracted according to the krill length at survey stations where only krill were collected during the study period, were compared. The frequency difference ranges were 3.96-5.91 dB and -3.0~13.8 dB, respectively.

From May to November, 2016 (May, August, November), the survey was conducted to investigate the actual condition on the shrimp beam trawl net in Yeosu coastal area. Because the mesh size of the shrimp beam trawl net is small, various benthic fish were caught together with shrimp. During the survey period, total 361.5 kg of 79 species which include 52 fish species, 18 crustaceans and 6 cephalopods was caught in the target area. The dominant species were Argyrosomus argentatus, Thryssa kammalensis, Trichiurus lepturus, Metapenaeus joyneri, and Larimichthys polyactis. The caught species of shrimp in Yeosu coastal area were shown to be Parapenaeopsis tenella, Trachysalambria curvirostris, and Metapenaeus joyneri. Although the catch amount of shrimp was decreased in May and August, it was sharply increased from November when the water temperature became lowered. In November, the catch amount of shrimp accounted for 87% of the total catch amount. For analysis by coastal area, Yeosu coastal area were grouped as A and B, and Namhae coastal area was classified as C. It was shown that the catch rate of Yeosu coastal area was 76.6% and the catch rate of Namhae coastal area was 88.6%. In order to reduce the catch rate of shrimp by the beam trawl net, the bycatch reduction device (BRD) should be mandatory and studies on technical parts such as selective fishing techniques should be carried out together.
