        축제에 나타나는 전통의상에 대한 연구 -서유럽 기독교 국가 중심으로-

        A Festival is an event of celebrating experienced events in life or life culture with various stories. It is also a ceremony of commemorating and handing down a community spirit or events in a life community. Nowadays various festival events are regarded as not only tasting departures but also places of a rest and recharging one's batteries appreciating a meaning of events out of daily life. A religious festival is paying attributes to religious commemoration days or saints important roll in a life, and holding related events with an opportunity of looking back to daily life. A carnival is not a direct religious festival directly but as an event prior to Easter and have a regional meaning at every region. It is held at every region corresponding to regional characteristics in Christian cultural area of Western as a time of spring starts in a way of purifying body and spirit. The festival is held by their origin. Generally food and costume represent the characteristic of each event. According to regional special products, people and events they are held in various way. The participant sometimes wears a traditional costume in accordance with formalities and enjoy traditional costume at a fancy dress parade and so on. A traditional costume appears frequently at the regional festival with a strong regional characteristic. In order to raise atmosphere a splendid style of a former generation such as Renaissance, rococo and baroque style as a brilliant military style of 17∼18C appears at the parades. Especially the traditional costume of children participated represents traditionality and characteristics of the costume itself symbolically.         The costume is an expression materialized in human life, which has been influenced by its social and natural environment. Through the reading of studies illuminating how the cultural history of a people or a nation has been reflected in its own costume, we can find out that the relationship between the history of social culture and that of its costumes is rather closely related, when the endless changes of costume are analyzed together with the historical data in the fields of politics, economy, culture, religion, and so on. Therefore the concerned historical data of costume is not just a relic of traditional past. It can be used as the basic material for a new idea or a new image. This study is concentrated on the relationship between the costume of Russia Czarist and its sociocultural background. Russia has formed a peculiar culture due to the various reasons such as diverse ethnic societies, vast landscape and complicated history, In this study on the historical and social conditions, the following points are stressed. First, the sociocultural background is studied especially with the emphasis on the political history of Czarist Russia. Second, the original costume of Russia is analyzed in terms of the study of Slavic folk costume in Eastern Europe. Third, the sociocultural aspects of Russia are examined in comparison with those of Western Europe through illustrations, tables and pictures, with the horizontal comparison of the Czarist Russia costume and the modern European costume. We now understand, with the result of this study, that the original costume in Russia has almost disappeared because of the influence of social environment and that Russian costume has succeeded both the original aspects, which are deeply penetrated into the heart of their culture, and the Slavic aspects in Europe and Asia, whose various cultural influences are dissolved into the contemporary Russian costume. In the future, the original costume should be more closely studied in to adapt the originality of Slavic people for the ethnic style and the ecological trend in contemporary costume studies, especially in the field of Russian costume studies.

        복식 디자인 이미지 차용에 대한 연구

        Retro fashion is a demonstration of respect or dedication to someone or something in arts, literatures, and movies. In movies, retro fashion is used by imitating scenes and quotes of the respected movie by other movie directors. Today fashion, both famous designers who have been around for long time and new designers that are keep coming up try hard to create something new with retro fashion. Design houses and design labels with tradition keep recruiting top designers to pursue the innovation in fashion and yet keep the tradition as well. Trend of retro fashion expressed in fashion can be found in two ways, one that shows clearly that hommage is used in a collection and the other that shows it is applied widely in fashion and design fields. There are variety of things expressed in collections with retro fashion, such as famous designers and their pieces, celebrities and their styles, artists and their arts, also an era or some period of time, cities and the lifestyle of them cities. Today fashion, retro fashion is a work of reinterpretation on fashion that shows the characteristics of given period of time, also a bit of meanings and designs from nostalgia and retro are appropriation and expressed. In fashion where the most valuable aspects are creativity and novelty, study of retro fashion is a great way to improve designers' designs and also gives a good idea in between creation and imitation. This study will cover both the original works and retro fashion works through some storytelling and investigate into deeper directions such as characters, time period background, and images of connectivity in hommage.

        복식 문화 콘텐츠를 위한 고딕문화의 이미지 연구

        Contemporary fashion design may be represented as an image with new modern symbols through reinterpretation from the past. In such a case, Gothic allows various visual styles and sub-cultural practice in fashion images, providing the subculture with the source for a bluff, narcissism and diversity through a typical response of media. The nature of the Gothic culture lies in imagination and fear profoundly existed in human inner side. Such a phenomenon is inherent in contemporary culture and used for almost every medium influencing sensitivity including fashion and advertisement as well as pop culture. Accordingly, Gothic culture has an appeal to the masses required by the age. So, it is used for commercialization via imaging in such an economic environment of the modern times. In the modern commercialization, expressions of the Gothic image range from subculture to mainstream culture including fashion, film, cartoon, commercial ad, festival, literature and art. The origin of Gothic culture has sustained its vitality through architecture, literature, art and festival. In order to analyze the Gothic image expressed in clothes, this study aims at examining a connection between image and Gothic culture in costumes through exploring the Gothic culture of various genres.

        The costume originated from the idea that it could protect human beings from ferocious beasts. The military costume was from protection against an enemy equipped with weapons. Furthermore, the makers of the custume were afraid of supernatural powers and it made them devise an armour and decorate it by the concept of superstition for the purpose of overcoming it. The function of military uniform was important for increasing the protection against any enemies while they join in harmonious. However in harmonious time, it represented artwork of peace, dignity, and order. Since the uniform was a kind of symbol to show their position, and their role. They could feel proud as a member of a military group they belong to and they gain honor, courage, patriotic sentiment through their military costume. The purpose of this study was to investigate the originality the military costume as it changed and developed continuously form ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome to modern times. This study was performed to show the comparison and characteristic marks of the past, and the influence of them on the modern military uniform. The method used in this study was using past manuscripts of the early times, information attained from domestic and foreign military documents and previously written reports. As a result, the military costume was one of many means of expression of their natural and social environment, It can be said that the most epoche-marking and powerful changes to the social environment are revolution or war. War absolutely has influenced on the changes of costume and the military armour according to the type of war and the development of weapons. Especially using the armour the main purpose that of protecting the body has changed into distinguishing our forces from the enemy and instilling friar into the enemy, Furthermore, the class who has the power has used it in order to express their power and dignity. Therefore, armour had required two rules to not only protect the body but also discriminating between classes. Key worlds: military costume(군복식), armour(갑옷), weapons(무기), protector(방어), decorate(장식).

        민속문화 축제 가면(假面)ㆍ가장(假裝)의 이미지 표현에 대한 연구

        A festival is a space for complex culture of the era, where the past coexists with the future, and where efforts are made to seek new meanings of tradition and playfulness based on the origin. Festivals give essential vitality to everyday life. Since ancient times, human beings have believed in an absolute power that will determine their fate, and held ceremonies to deify and worship him while making wishes, and this is considered as the origin of festivals. A festival implies religious tradition, and combines festive days where wishes are made and congratulatory ceremonies are held with fete days where gods are worshiped in addition to entertainment. As fete days have periodicity, and those established in previous generations are passed down to the next generation, tradition and periodicity are emphasized in festivals. From a ceremonial perspective, a festival adopts certain forms such as regional characteristics, ethnological ceremonies, parades, music and dance, and ceremonial factors are included in the costumes or masks. The deity is an inherent part of a festival, and practicality of everyday life is implied to create a space featuring costume, symbols, dance, rhythm, foods and beverages. Traditional costumes and masks have diversified significance in a festival, and serve as a means of expressing not only the characteristics, customs and tradition of a festival, but also of representing the deity. This study is focused on examining the practice and ceremonies in a festival and describing the traditional characteristics of masks and costumes, as well as the images that express tradition and artistry based on the diverse meanings of festivals. The study also aims to determine the significance of the masks and costumes used in festivals, and pursue diversity of design based on traditional image motifs.

        The above was a summary and historical background of military look, and how it has been developed to Street Fashion. A military uniform has two basic characters. One is functionality for field warfare and the other is decorativeness to express dignity and power to maintain systematic organization. For these purposes, the military uniform is maximizing its effects on functionality and decorativeness on each aspects of material, color, dignity, item, military ornaments and accessories. During wartime, the military uniform improved its functionality and gave much influence on normal clothing at the same time either directly or indirectly. If we see some aspects how military uniform influenced general wearing : First, women clothing adapted the working easiness of it for their social activities experiencing the World War Ⅰ and Ⅱ. Second, with lack of material resources, Practical military style became the motif of general wearing on its material, design and color. Military look became one of fashion genres from 1940's which is the World War Ⅱ period. Military look of that time was simply a reflection of military uniform for its functionality and practical utility, but in 1960's, it applied to High Fashion. With the trend of Minimalism, moderate simple image is adapted from the straight line of military uniform and authorizing shoulder strap, gold button, braid trinkets are used in detail. It was a postwar younger generation period, In a stabilized economic environment, new culture had been taking its shape trying new challenges and variations. The skeptic and resistant culture gave birth to Anti-Fashion, and it was developed to Street Fashion. In 1970's women after the wars could get equal educational opportunity, and accordingly their rights are extended. As social activities of women became natural, they preferred a mannish style that expresses equivalent role and ability to men. As for examples what applied from military style during that time, quilting material, khaki or brown colors, a shoulder-stressed design are among those. At the beginning of 1990's, Gulf War broke out, and Eastern Europe communities started being broken down. During that time, as a 50th anniversary after the World WarⅡ, the war had been reviewed with new angles and the military uniform itself and the military fashion is applied to normal clothing in more concrete manner. In 1990's, the fashion became more diverse, In a mood for the end of century and inflated material civilization, and with nostalgia for the fast, mixed styles of fast, present and future have come out in variety. In Street Fashion, there are many alternative trends to meet diverse desires of teenagers, and the military look has been steadily favored. The functionality and the decorativeness of military look would have met fashion sense and taste of younger generations pretty well. First, teenagers are active, and the practical materials and functional designs of military style applied to their clothes. Second, they prefer challenging and creative styles, and the decorative elements of military clothing for the colors, patterns, accessories have been applied to their clothing. We may need to understand their culture and emotion more closely and help them enjoy sound and beautiful clothing culture. As a summary, we can see that the characteristics of military clothing, the functionality and the decorativeness, have been adapted to general clothing and became the peculiar motif for High Fashion and Street Fashion. The military uniform adapted itself to natural and social environments and has been developed and improved, which made that possible. Form now, with systematic investigation on the functionality and the decorativeness of military uniform in relation to general clothing and ornaments, we will study the reasonability of clothing and ornaments.
