This paper is a part of "The study of the Traditional Korean Ethenic Farmhousing in Yanbian, China". The purpose of this study is to investigate alteration and changes of floor plans in traditional farmhouses located in Lunching, China. The farmhouses in the rural areas are similar to those built in Hamkyung-Do in North Korea. The houses in Lungchlng area are rectangular in shape and are divided into four to five sections. The survey methodology included a literature review and field study involving 124 households. In addition to the data of the questionnaire photographs were taken, drawings were made, and the size of the houses were measured. Major findings of the study are : 1. Traditional Korean houses of "double-file"?? were built until 1980s. 2. Floor area of the houses can be divided into two categories-living quarters and non-living quarters. They tend to attach new non-living quarters to existing ones or build new ones separately, they also alter living quarters by eliminating walls between rooms or substituting walls for sliding doors. However there seem to be some preferences for maintaining separate rooms rather than one large room because of privacy. 3. They started to purchase large modernized furnitures due to an improved economic situation and this kind of furniture needs open and large spaces to place in. They usually place furniture in Oot-Bang(upper-room). Therefore. the smaller the size of Oot-Bang is the more they enlarge living quarters by eliminating doors between Oot-Bang and other rooms.
