Vol.51 No.-
This paper is a thesis about the rice paddy song of Gyeongsang-do and Jeolla-do. It carries close observation of the distribution after classifying function of the rice paddy song according to when to sing and sing for what. Both the regions of Gyeongsang-do and Jeolla-do are southern part of South Korea, and rice farming is prevalent. While, the paddy songs of Jeolla-do show much categorized aspect that are classified by function than that of Gyeongsang-do. However, there has been no comparative study yet. To make clear the difference between the two region, with the result of functional classification, chapter 2 is divided into 4 classes including 'starting weeding song', 'the primary-secondary-tertiary weeding song', 'finishing weeding song(towards the end of the weeding song, completing the weeding song, stepping out of the paddy song)', 'returning home song(coming back home each day song, Jang won jil song; at the completion of all weeding)'. In the third chapter, with the examination results about functional distribution of selected songs which have lots of distribution area among the rice paddy songs in Gyeongsang-do and Jeolla-do, the songs of the two regions have noticeable differences in terms of functional classification and distribution. Jeolla-do's southwestern plain areas and eastern mountain regions have differences each other simultaneously.
