Recently, it has to design the traction motor to raise power density because of many necessary parts for Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV). Power of motor is made up of the torque and speed. If the motor which is the same size and shape is designed to raise speed, power and power density are increase. However, it is not easy to control interior permanent magnet (IPM) motor at high speed due to voltage constraint. So, this paper proposed simple method to solve the high speed control problem in the motor design stage, when it assumes that motor drive system has to have current margin. Basic idea is changing number of turns and current while retaining the same magnetomotive force (MMF) in this paper. Also, performances of motor are related to the operating temperature which is affected by copper loss and core loss. So, temperature saturation test is administered to the motor to measure the maximum performance of the motor. However, it is not easy to measure the performances of motor due to the test takes longer. Therefore, this paper proposes the method to estimate the performances using the several times tests and simple equations.

The important parts of E-bike are frame, battery, motor, and controller. Especially, motor and controller are major parts which move the E-bike and person. This paper deals with design and advanced performance of the motor and controller for E-bike. Drive method of permanent magnet motor can be largely divided into two types. One is BLDC drive and the other is BLAC drive. Merits of BLDC drive are low cost, small size and simple drive, but performances are not good compare with BLAC drive. So, This paper deals with lower acoustic noise and high efficiency of BLDC drive as BLAC drive.

Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(IPMSM) produces two kind of torque that Magnetic and Reluctance torque. The permanent magnet linkage flux Ψa and d-axis and q-axis inductance have an important influence on the torque characteristic of IPMSM. Thus their accurate prediction is essential for predicting performance aspect such as the torque and flux-weakening capabilities. In this paper, we compared the characteristic parameters and operation region of two type IPMSM which has different pole numbers.

A design algorithm for the permanent magnet synchronous machine is proposed in order to meet the design requirements especially size minimization and field weakening possibility for a wide speed range operation. In the algorithm, the specific loadings are automatically determined and it doesn’t need any reference specific loading data which is experimentally obtained.
