The gaseous carbon dioxide has been irradiated with Co-60 gamma-radiation in the presence and absence of various alcohols, and the radiolysis products analyzed by gas chromatography. Experimental results indicate that no detectable amount of carbon monoxide is formed when pure carbon dioxide is irradiated. By adding small quantities of alcohols to carbon dioxide, however, considerable amount of carbon monoxide, ketones, alcohols and other organic products have been detected. By adding 0.1% of methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol, 2-propanol, 1-butanol, 2-methyl-l-propanol, 2-butanol, and 2-methyl-2-propanol, G(CO) values obtained are 4.4, 4.5, 5.2, 4.4, 5.2, 5.0, 4.7 and 4.1, respectively. These high yields of carbon monoxide suggest that the oxidation reactions of carbon monoxide may be suppressed by scavenging oxygen atom with the alcohols. The main radiolytic decomposition reactions of the alcohols present in small quantity in carbon dioxide may be supposed to be the reactions with the oxygen atom produced by the radiolysis of carbon dioxide. The decomposition reactions seems to follow pseudo-first order kinetics with respect to the alcohols. The decomposition rate measured with 2-propanol is the fastest and that with 2-methyl-2-propanol the slowest. The mechanisms of the radiolytic decomposition reactions of the alcohols present in carbon dioxide are discussed on the basis of the experimental results of the present study.

일산화탄소를 생성시키기 위한 이산화탄소의 감마선 분해반응(총흡수선량 6.7 Mrad)에서 몇가지 유기물의 첨가효과를 연구하였다. 순수한 이산화탄소를 조사할 때는 일산화탄소가 생성되지 않았으나 첨가제를 가한 경우 상당량의 일산화탄소가 생성되어 0.5%의 메탄올 및 0.25%의 에탄올의 첨가에 의해 각각 4.1 및 4.6의 최대G(CO)값을 얻었다. 또 1%의 포름알데히드 첨가에 의해서는 가장 높은 수율인 8.4의 G(CO)값을 보였고, 1% 아세트알데히드의 경우는 6.3의 G(CO)값을 보였으며 40 Mard에서 최대일산화탄소농도 0.65%를 얻었다. The gamma radiolysis of C$O_2$, in the presence of organic additives, was studied at the total absorbed dose of 6.7 Mrad. Considerable quantity of CO was produced by adding these additives to $O_2$, though no CO was found without them. The maximum G(CO) values of 4.1 and 4.6 were obtained by addition of 0.5% methanol and 0.25% ethanol, respectively. The G(CO) values of 6.3 and 8.4 were noted by the addition of 1% acetaldehyde and 1% formaldehyde, respectively. The maximum CO concentration of 0.65% was obtained by the addition of 1% acetaldehyde at the dose of 40 Mrad.
폴리에틸렌 중공사막에 Vinyl Benzyl Trimethyl Ammonium Chloride 의 방사선 공중합

마이크로 여과용 다공성 폴리에틸렌 중공사막에 vinyl benzyl trimethy ammonium chloride(VBTAC)를 방사선 그라프트하여 음이온교환막을 합성하는 방법에 대해 연구하였다. VBTAC는 친수성기를 갖고 있어서 무극성인 폴리에틸렌에 직접 그라프트시키기 어려우므로 그라프트가 용이한 hydroxyethyl methacrylate(HEMA) 또는 ethylmeth-acrylate(EMA)를 공단량체로 하여 그라프트 중합시켜 VBTAC와 HEMA, VBTAC와 EMA간의 그라프트 반응성을 조사한 결과 그라프트율이 증가하면서 공중합체중의 VBTAC/HEMA, VBTAC/EMA의 몰비는 점차 증가하는 경향을 보였고 VBTAC/HEMA의 몰비가 VBTAC/EMA의 몰비에 비하여 컸다. 그라프트 중합으로 합성한 음이온교환 중공사막의 이온교환용량, 흡수율 등의 물성을 측정하였다. 또한 그라프트 중공사막의 열적 거동을 TGA와 DSC을 사용하여 검토하였다. An attempt in the present work was made to introduce strong anion exchange group by radiation-induced grafting of vinyl benzyl trimethyl ammonium chloride(VBTAC) onto the polyethylene hollow fiber. Comonomer technique using hydroxyethyl methacrylate(HEMA) and ethyl methacrylate(EMA) as comonomers was tried owing to the difficulty of direct graft copolymerization of VBTAC onto polyethylene. Grafting reactivity between VBTAC-HEMA and VBTAC-EMA was examined. The molar ratios of VBTAC/HEMA or VBTAC/EMA in the copolymer increased with increasing the total degree of grafting. The molar ratios of VBTAC/HEMA in the copolymer were higher than those of VBTAC/EMA. Anionic exchange capacity and water absorption of grafted polyethylene hollow fiber were also examined in accordance with the total grafting yield. Thermal behavior of the grafted membrane was investigated by TGA and DSC.
