In the present study, we attempted to add the incompatible functions as additional variable terms to the conventional u-p formulation. It is derived from the four-field generalized variational principle that encompasses velocity, pressure, velocity strains and stress fields as independent interpolated variables. As a severe test of the present formulation, we have investigated the driven cavity with the corner velocity singularity like leaky lid. Through the test, the present element performs very well without unstable oscillation of pressure distribution.

This paper introduces two kinds of new four-node quadrilateral axisymmetric elements with independently-assumed strains. They are formulated by the modified Hellinger-Reissner principle so as to employ incompatible displacements and assumed strains. In one of the present elements, the strains from incompatible displacements are corrected to pass the constant strain patch test. The other contains incompatible functions that are obtained from the element boundary condition. The elements are evaluated on the several problems of bending and material incompressibility with regular and distorted meshes. The results show that the new element performs excellently in deformation and stress calculation.

This paper introduces two three-dimensional eight-node hexagonal elements obtained by using multivariable variational mehtod. Both of them are based on the modified hellinger-reissner principle to employ incompatible displacements and assumed stresses of assumed strains. The internal functions of element are introduced to as element formulation through two different methods : the first one uses the functions determined directly from the element boundary condition of the incompatible displacements ; while the second, being a kind of B-bar mehtod, employs the modification technique of strain-displacement matrix to pass the patch test. The elements are evaluated on the selective problems of bending and material incompressibility with regular and distorted meshes. The results show that the new elements perform with good accuracy in both of deformation and stress calculation and they are insensitive to distorted geometry of element.

Two kinds of 4-node plane stress/strain finite elements are presented in this work. The introduced incompatible functions are selected to satisfy the constant strain condition. The elements are evaluated on several problems of bending and material incompressibility with regular and distorted elements. The results show that the new elements perform excellently in the calculation of deformation and stresses.

Ciliated hepatic foregut cyst(CHFC) is a rare disease that originates from the tracheobronchial tree of the foregut. Most patients with CHFC, which is believed to be a non-malignant neoplasm, are clinically asymptomatic. However, there have been some case reports that identify it as changing to malignant in the last decade of the condition. Surgical excision is, therefore, preferred to observation as the treatment of CHFC. However, surgical excision of CHFC in asymptomatic elderly patients is controversial. We experienced a rare case of a 73-year-old female patient who was accidentally diagnosed with CHFC while being diagnosed for cholecystitis and cholangitis. The patient simultaneously underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy and resection of CHFC, which was finally diagnosed as benign. We report asymptomatic CHFC in elderly patient, focusing our discussion on whether surgical excision of CHFC is necessary for asymptomatic elderly patients. Accor- ding to a review of case reports, surgical excision of CHFC is not necessary for asymptomatic elderly patients.

Liposarcoma is one of the most common soft tissue sarcomas that occurs in adults and is currently divided into five main subgroups: well-differentiated, myxoid, round cell, pleomorphic, and dedifferentiated. Primary mesenteric liposarcoma is extremely rare, and the treatment strategy is surgical resection with a wide free margin, often followed by radiation and adjuvant chemotherapy if distant metastasis is not detected. A 73-year-old male patient presented with lower abdominal distension. Abdominal CT scan revealed a large homogeneously enhancing mass lesion abutting the sigmoid colon and urinary bladder. At laparotomy, the solid mass measured 28×26×12 cm in size, was well-demarcated, and originated from the mesentery of the middle ileum. It was removed along with some small intestine (ileocecal valve upper 50-150 cm) and ileal mesentery because of adhesion. Histologically, the tumor proved to be pleomorphic liposarcoma. The patient did not undergo any adjuvant treatment following surgery, but he remains disease free until 33 months after surgery. Herein, we report a case of pleomorphic liposarcoma arising from small bowel mesentery. (Korean J Gastroenterol 2015;65:182-185)
