The purpose of this study is to prove the analgesic effects of apitoxin and its mechanism via jaw-opening reflex(JOR) and measuring expression of mRNA in Phospholipase and Tryptophan hydroxylase(TPH) using RT-PCR. The experiments were carried out on Sprague-Dawley rats(300-400g) and mastocytoma(P-185 HTR) for JOR and RT-PCR, respectively. Rats anesthetized with thiopental sodium (80mg/kg) were used in the Tooth Pulp stimulation induced JOR. The amplitude of a digastric electromyogram (dEMG) was recorded during the stimulation at an intensity of 1.5 times the threshold for JOR. Apitoxin used in this experiment was diluted with normal saline by 1:1000. Apitoxin was injected intravenously into the test group while normal saline to the control group. However, it was injected directly into the cell of mastocytoma. We referred to base sequence registered in Genbank in designing primers for RT-PCR. The results were as follows; (1)Compared with control group, analgesic effect started to show right after Sprague-Dawely rats were treated with apitoxin($71.50{\pm}8.08$) and lasted for 50 minutes. (2)As a result of the experiment of RT-PCR, we witnessed significant changes in the degree of expression of phospholipase or rate-limiting enzyme of biosynthesis of prostaglandins with $10{\mu}g/ml$ apitoxin.($31.74{\pm}18.98%$, P<0.05) (3)As a result of the experiment of RT-PCR, we witnessed significant changes in the degree of expression of TPH or rate-limiting enzyme in biosynthesis of serotonin with $10{\mu}g/ml$ apitoxin.($131.37{\pm}16.87%$, P<0.05). These results suggest that $10{\mu}g/ml$ apitoxin have the most analgesic effects. This study showed that apitoxin has analgesic effects and held good for 50 minutes. The injection of apitoxin has brought out changes in the degree of expression of phospholipase and TPH. These results strongly suggest that analgesic mechanism by apitoxin is closely related to prostaglandins and serotonin.

We found out that there exists threshold dose for the decreased platelet count when we apply change of the platelet count to the defense of the ultrasound experiment. Those diminution is definite effects from the defense of the ultrasound. The number of the platelet count is decreased when we are exposed to ultrasound simultaneously. This should not be occurred. It is easy to use the number of the platelet count in the measurement of the biological dosage and intensity in high dosage relatively due to definite quantative relationship. The biological index to understand synergic effects. which are present when two harmful environmental factors are operating at the same time is functionally assending and antagonistic. There are scattered many factors as physical, Chemical, or physiochemically elements which are harmful to human body in the environment in consideration of ultrasound and the other factors. This experiment is demonstrating that we can use the change of the platelet as an index representing synergic effects of ultrasound.

Purpose: The study investigated the relationship of health behavior with bone mineral density (BMD) for college students. Methods: A descriptive study was done using a convenient sampling of college students (n=116) enrolled in a health-related department. Height, weight, body mass index (BMI), health behaviors recognition of subjective health, smoking, drinking, exercise, food habits, intake of calcium, and family history of fracture were measured. BMD was measured at the right forearm using Hologic lunar duel-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, t-test, ANOVA and multiple linear regression. Results: The prevalence of osteopenia and osteoporosis was 41.4% and 22.4%, respectively. Significant relationships were observed between BMD of right forearm and gender, BMI, subjective health recognition, drinking, and exercise (p<.05). Results of linear regression after adjusted BMD were increased concerning subjective health recognition and regular exercise (p<.05). Conclusions: Subjective health recognition and exercise carries positive effects on BMD. We recommend for college students that healthy behaviors like proper weight, smoking cessation, regular exercise, regular food habits, and health awareness are helpful to BMD.

This study was carried out to determine the best condition of roughage supply for the efficient management of farm land for forage production. To investigate the present situation of feed production in forage crop field, 31 farms were surveyed in Chonnam province during summer season of 1985. The results obtained were as follows; 1. Production of forage crops in upland was more profitable than that of other crops such as red pepper, garlic, Irish potato, barley and soybeans. 2. The optimum combination of feed for a milk cow was determined as 2,000㎏ of concentrate and 4,435㎏ of hay when a cow produced 5,000㎏ of milk a year. 3. Minimum land requirement for self-sufficiency of roughage to feed a cow was 0.17㏊ of forage crop field without feeding any rice straw, and 0.14㏊ of forage crop field with feeding 1,000㎏ of rice straw a year. 4. Reasonable cropping pattern of forage with Italian ryegrass, sorghum-sudangrass hybrid, corn, rye, radish and rape were suggested for typical dairy farming to attain efficient use of land and self-supply of feed.

This study was carried out in order to evaluate the economic impacts of and to determine the market weight of korean native cattle cross-bred by charolais. For this study, 15 farms were surveyed which raised one or more cross-bred korean cattle by charolais in Kanghwa county, and 12 farms were also investigated which reared korean native cattle in Kwangju and pochun county in Kyunggi province. Specifically interview surveys were conducted, using constructed schedule on two times; Sep. 15, 1980 - Sep. 20, 1980 and Feb. 10, 1981 - Feb. 15, 1981. The results obtained in this study are summarized as follows; 1. Improvement of productivities of cattle through the research and experimentation proved to be one of the most important measures to increase the farm house-hold income because most of the cattle farms raised only one or two tattles. 2. The average daily gain of cross-bred cattle up to 18 months old was 1.09 ㎏, and it was about 42 percent more than that of korean native cattle (0.77㎏) at farm level. The feed efficiency of cross-bred was moth higher than the korean cattle by 20 percent. Average live-weight of cross-bred cattle was 632㎏, which was 45 percent more than that of the korean cattle (436㎏) at 18 months. 3. Gross receipts, management cost and income per head of cross-bred korean were 1,435,000won, 726,000won, and 709,000won, and these were higher than that of the korean native cattle by 45, 44 and 42 percent. respectively, at 18 months old. 4. At 18 months, the management cost per ㎏ gain of the cross-bred cattle was 588 won, and the production cost per ㎏ gain was 1,394won. These were lower than those of korean native cattle by 10 and 20 percent, respectively. 5. To figure out the profitable market weights of cross-bred cattle, production function and profit function were derived. It was observed that other factors such as labor, roughage, building and equipment costs except the concentrate were not significant to determine the liveweight of cattle. Under the assumption that other factors except the concentrate were constant the following equation was derived to determine the maximum profitable market weight; Wtc=628.3+0.001(Px/Py)-5,580.3(Px/Py)² where Wtc is the liveweights of the cross-bred cattle (㎏), Py is the concentrate price (won/㎏), and Px is live-weight price (won/㎏) . 6. In concluding, (a) the cross-bred cattle showed higher fattening capability. (b) they were more profitable than korean native cattle, (c) maximum profitable market weight of cross-bred cattle at current feed and cattle prices was about 600㎏, and (d) the break-even weight of cross-bred cattle at 17 and 18 months were 476 ㎏ and 511㎏, respectively.
