Soil failure is initiated and preceded by forming and progressing of shear band, defined as the localization ofdeformation into thin zones of soil mass. To understand the failure mechanism of normally consolidated cohesive soil,the spatial distribution and evolution of deformation within the entire specimen need to be evaluated. In this study,vertical compression tests under plane strain condition were performed on reconstituted kaolinite specimens, whilecapturing digital images of the specimen at regular intervals during shearing. Overall stress-strain behavior from initialto post peak has been analyzed together with spatial distributions of deformations and shear band characteristics fromdigital images at 4 stages.
말뚝 지지력 산정을 위한 동역학적 공식의 정확도 분석 및 수정

비점성토 지반에서 말뚝 기초의 지지력을 산정하는 방법으로 동역학적 공식이 있다. 이 공식은 사용이 간편한 반면에 공식에 사용되는 경험적인 계수값들의 타당성과 항타기록의 정확성등이 문제가 된다. 본 논문에서는 현재 널리 사용되는 6 종류의 공식을 선정하여 각 공식이 산출한 계산 허용 지지력을 말뚝 재하 시험으로부터 구한 실측 허용 지지력과 비교 분석하고, 말뚝 재하시험 결과와 동일한 허용 지지력을 산출할 수 있도록 선형 회귀곡선을 이용하여 각 공식을 수정하였다. 수정된 공식중에서 Gates의 공식이 가장 신뢰도가 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 기존의 Olson 수정공식과 비교한 결과 본 논문 제안 공식이 10% 이상 보수적인 결과를 산출하였다. Dynamic pile-driving formulas are widely used in predicting the load capacity of piles in cohesionless soils. However, the accuracy of the formulas has been questioned for a long time due to their oversimplified assumptions and empirical parameters involved in the formulas. The allowable pile capacities calculated by 6 different dynamic pile-driving formulas are compared statistically with the capacities measured in the field, in this paper, to find out the correlations between the calculated capacities and the measured values. The statistical data are then used to evaluate and to adjust the formulas to improve their accuracy. For the greatest accuracy and simplicity of use, it is recommended that the adjusted form of Gates formula be used. When the result of this recommended formula is compared with that of the existing Olson's modified formula, the former is found to be conservative by more than 10 percents.

Much attention has been paid to the self, its functions and identity in the recent theoretic discussions of literature. This tendency can be seen as a phenomenon of the process of breaking away from the established views on the world, of the disorganization of the views and of groping for various value different from the consciousness of modern ages focusing on reason. The moderns negate a fixed system of thought, pursuing various value. The discussions themselves can be converted into literary themes and contribute to the formation of readers’ nation-state identity. This study is designed to look into how characters perceive and accept their environment. In short, this study is aimed to grasp self-identity before the formation of the subjective consciousness of the novels. This study will gopefully contribute to the effective studies but also by having a right understanding of the characters of the novels.
모래지반의 상대밀도에 따른 횡방향 반복재하 시 말뚝의 극한지지력 평가

Pile foundations used as offshore support structures are dominantly subjected to cyclic lateral loads due to wind andwaves. In this study, a series of cyclic lateral load tests were performed on a pre-installed aluminum flexible pile insandy soil with three different relative densities (40%, 70% and 90%) in order to evaluate the effect of cyclic lateralloads on lateral load capacity of a pile. The cyclic lateral loads increased the lateral load capacity of a pile at 40%relative density, whereas they decreased it at 70% and 90% relative densities. This can be explained by the fact thatthe cyclic lateral loads slightly densified the surrounding soil in relatively loose sand (40%), while the surrounding soilwas disturbed in relatively dense sand (70% and 90%). These effects were more obvious as the cyclic lateral loadamplitude increased, being independent with the saturation. Also, from the test results, an empirical equation for thelateral load capacity of a cyclic laterally loaded pile in sandy soil was developed in terms of relative density of thesoil and the cyclic lateral load amplitude.
