본 연구는 유치원에서 실시하는 바깥놀이를 중심으로 참여 관찰하여 유아들의 놀이 양상에 대해 살펴보고 바깥놀이에서 나타나는 놀이의 의미를 도출하고자 하였다. 연구대상은 N시의 만 3, 4, 5세 혼합연령반 17명과 교사 2명이었으며, 3개월 동안 총 30회에 걸친 참여관찰과 교사면담을 실시하였다. 연구결과 바깥놀이는 진행과정, 장소, 대상에 따라 놀이의 양상이 다르게 나타났으며, 이를 통해 바깥놀이 양상의 의미를 추출한 결과 ‘정서적 만족감 증진’, ‘새로운 놀이에 대한 설렘’, ‘주도적 표현활동’으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과는 다양한 바깥놀이 프로그램 개발을 위한 기초 자료를 제공하는데 의의가 있다. This study is aimed at examining the aspect of young children"s play presented at the outside of by observing their activities, mostly outside activities conducted at Sandeul kindergartens, and establish the meaning of play indicated in their outside play. The research target is 17 students of a mixed-age class with 3-, 4-, and 5-year-olds and 2 teachers of a kindergarten located in N city. As for research methods, participatory observation and teacher interview were conducted. The research revealed that the pattern of play in their outside play varied depending on the process, place, and the student. Also, the meaning of pattern in their outside play was established as the following: "improving emotional satisfaction"; "excitement about new play"; "self-directed expression activities." Such findings are significant, since they serve as basic data for developing various programs for outside play.
