The virtual engineering technologies have been broadly used for the design, testing, manufacturing and maintenance works of industrial product. Recently many VR systems with walk through navigation and web databases; such as design and installation database, load history database, maintenance history database et al. are developed. However, the virtual engineering in railroad industry is not well developed compared to other industries like automobile, air, shipbuilding. In this paper, we explain the strategy that we have applied the virtual engineering technology to the design works of rolling stock and our plan to build the virtual testing laboratory(VTL) in the Korea Railroad Research Institute.

In the management literature, it has been widely known that the extent of knowledge sharing across organization is critically contributing to the firm`s sustainable competitiveness. In reality, it is true that a certain degree of personal reluctance to share knowledge exists among employees. Therefore, reducing the reluctance against knowledge sharing among organization members poses a serious research issue. Intention about knowledge sharing is usually hindered by in-group rivalries. Also employees feel negative in sharing their knowledge with colleagues when they expect to receive little support and recognition in return after doing that. The main purpose of this study is to investigate why people voluntarily is willing to share their knowledge with others in the competitive context where potential rivalry is still expected, In answering this research question, we tried to find out the positive and negative emotional factors affecting individuals` intention about knowledge sharing. For the sake of empirical analyses, 258 valid questionnaires were garnered from online community where a number of people has been actively interacting with registered members to share crucial knowledge about sensitive issues. Results revealed that the proposed research hypotheses are adequately proved with significant statistical results.

In this paper, we introduced a simulator to visualize the driving scenery of newly developed train called the K-AGT(Korea Automated Guideway Transit). The simulator consists of mainly two parts; control system and display system. In the control system, user can control the driving speed of the K-ACT. the driving environment(day and night), the operation of the train door and the screen door and user"s views(driver s view, left window view, right window view, passenger"s view), In the display system, immersive driving scenery generated by stereoscopic head mount display system and 3 channel POP display system are displayed. We tire expect to utilize the system to share the idea among customer, designer and constructor and verify the operating condition of the K-ACT intuitively.

There are always chances to make wrong decisions when personnels are suddenly exposed to unexpected accidents which can cause heavy casualties. For this reason, the technology for reproducing the accident condition to find better and effective solutions is necessary. A simulator technology based on virtual reality is regarded as an appropriate tool to reproduce accidents in safe environment. In this research, we did research on making scenarios to cope with possible accidents in urban transit, and suggested a design strategy of a simulator for analyzing and training on the accidents by visualizing them in immersive virtual environment. By using the simulator, we expect to find more effective way to handle the emergency conditions

Life cycle costing is one of the most effective cost approaches when we choose a solution from series of alternative so the least long-term cost ownership is achieved. Life cycle costing in railway industry has been focused on the prediction of investment for railway vehicles. But in today, the life cycle cost, LCC, prediction on the aspect of operation and maintenance cost through whole life cycle is highly necessary. In this paper, we present a strategy for the development of life cycle cost estimation software on the aspect of maintenance strategies of railway vehicle. For this purpose, we suggested a structure of LCC software based on the UNIFE LCC model. And we developed a pilot version of software to evaluate the LCC model that we suggested for railway vehicle. We performed LCC analysis on the brake module of metro vehicle in case study and concluded that the software and model developed in this research could enough to support engineers in choosing better cost effective solutions from many alternatives.

VR(Virtual Reality) technologies have been broadly used for the design, monitoring and evaluation of
industrial equipment. Recently many VR systems with walk through navigation and web databases; such
as design and installation database, stress-time database, in-service inspection database et al. are
developed. However VR system with fracture mechanics analysis system is not developed yet, because it
is very hard to program in web environment.
In this research, a web based stress intensity factor K calculation control called ActiveK is developed
with the Microsoft activex technologies. By using the ActiveK, one can easily calculate the K value of
cracked cylinder based on the ASME Sec. XI, FFS RP579 and Raju-Newman method. Also, one can
easily develop the crack evaluation system such as DFM(deterministic fracture mechanics),
PFM(probabilistic fracture mechanics), ISI(in-service inspection) and RBI(risk based inspection) et al. in
the web environment by linking the VR model and the ActiveK.
