Fabrication of External Stimulus-sensitive Mechanochromic Films

Currently, counterfeiting technology is becoming an issue in various fields such as food and medicine as well as luxury goods. So it is necessary to develop counterfeit prevention technologies. In recent years, colloidal crystal assemblies have been attracting many attentions as real-time external stimulus-sensitive materials in various fields. The hydrogel matrix was most commonly used to fix colloidal crystals, but it is difficult to apply to various fields due to its low mechanical strength. In this study, styrene and acrylate monomer were emulsion-polymerized to form polymer particles with a core-interlayer-shell structure, and films were prepared by rolling while applying heat to the nanospheres. When an external stimulus is applied to the film, the arrangement of nanoparticles changes in real time. Fabricated mechanochromic films are expected that it can be applied to a genuine product authentication technology that allows consumers to determine the authenticity of a product.
