The purpose of this study is to examine how the task-oriented sling exercise based on rhythm affects patients with chronic stroke. We used a study with a single-subject design (A-B-A'). Two patients with chronic stroke participated in this study. Stretching/strengthening and task-oriented function exercises based on music using the sling were performed one hours per day for 8 times during intervention phase(B). Outcome measure included grip strength, range of motion(ROM), modified bathel index(MBI), berg balance scale(BBS), 10meter walk test(10MWT) and 6minute walk test(6MWT). After the intervention, the strength of grip strength, ROM, activities of daily living, balance and walking function of all patients was remarkably increased after the training, and these gains were positively maintained at 2-weeks follow-up phase. This result have shown that the task-oriented sling exercise basced on music might improve muscle performance, activities of daily living and gait function for patients with chronic stroke.

Background: Foot drop is a common symptom in stroke patients. Tape applications are widely used to manage foot drop symptoms. Previous studies have evaluated the effects of static and dynamic balance and gait on foot drop using kinesiology tape; however, only few studies have used dynamic tape application in stroke patients with foot drop. Objects: The purpose of this study was to investigate the immediate effects of dynamic tap-ing, which facilitates the dorsiflexor muscle, on static and dynamic balance and gait speed in stroke patients with foot drop. Methods: The study included 34 voluntary patients (17 men, 17 women) with stroke. The patients were randomly assigned to the experimental group (n = 17), wherein dynamic taping was used to facilitate the dorsiflexor muscle, or the control group (n = 17), wherein kinesiol-ogy taping was used. Before the taping application, velocity average, path-length average, Berg balance scale, and timed up and go test (TUG) were recorded to measure static and dynamic balance, whereas the 10-meter walk test (10MWT) was used to measure gait speed. After the taping application, these parameters were re-evaluated in both groups. Repeated measure analysis of variance was used. Statistical significance levels were set to α = 0.05. Results: Except for the 10MWT scores in the control group, significant differences were noted in all the parameters measured for static and dynamic balance and gait speed between the pre and post-test (p < 0.05). However, the parameters showed significant interaction ef-fects between group and time in the TUG and 10MWT (p < 0.01). Conclusion: These results indicate that compared with kinesiology taping, dynamic taping used in chronic stroke patients with foot drop had a more significant effect on dynamic bal-ance and gait speed.

The aim of this study is to examine the effects of community-based ambulation training on cognition, gait and activity of daily living for patients with dementia. Three patients with dementia participated in this study. We used a single-subject multiple baseline design to identify intervention effects. The 10 meter walk test (10MWT) and stair up and down test were measured during 19 sessions, and the mini-mental state examination (MMSE), Berg balance scale (BBS), timed up and go test (TUG), 6 minutes walk test (6MWT), community walk test (CWT), and modified Barthel index (MBI) were measured before and after the intervention period. Subjects of 1, 2, and 3 measured 4, 7, and 9 sessions during the baseline phase respectively, and 15, 12, and 10 sessions during the intervention phase respectively. For three patients, all the measurements was remarkably improved post test scores than pre-test scores. These results suggest that the community-based ambulation training may be helpful to increase cognition, gait and activity of daily living for patients with dementia. Further studies needs to warrant our resulting.

The modern engine must meet many requirements such as low emission, low NVH, low fuel economy, low cost, high performance, good durability, etc. to compete aggressively in the world market.<br/> KIA started the development of the future DOHC 16 valve spark ignition engine designated T-series. An all new design was done for T-series engine that must be produced on an entirely new plant. This engine has positive features such as a low emission level, good combustion stability and noise and vibration reduction. The basic construction of T-series engine is characterized by 4 cylinder belt-driven DOHC engine, state-of-the-art combustion chambers with tumbling intake ports and the valve angle of 45˚, deep skirt cylinder block, laminated steel cylinder head gasket. aluminum structural oil pan, and a six ribbed serpentine belt driven accessory system. Combustion research was carried out primarily on single cylinder engines and the developed combustion system has shown that the part load HC emission level is the "best in its class". Moreover part load and idle stability characteristics are comparable with the recent top class engines in the world. Subsequent durability testing was carried out on all production parts for the first engine of T-series; called the T8D engine, and it has 1.a liter displacement. Mass production of T8D engine, installed in the new KIA CREDOS, began on July 1995.<br/> Key Word: DOHC, Tumbling Intake Port, Combustion Stability, Emission.
