Field emission (FE) characteristics were investigated for cone-shaped multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) bundles, which were fabricated by using oxygen plasma. Uniformly distributed cone-shaped MWCNT bundles of varying ratios of diameter to height were obtained through control of irradiated plasma ion energy and dose. In addition, it was found that FE properties could be improved from the control of inter-tip distance, to minimize the field-screening effect. Results suggest the possibility of developing the plasma-assisted method for the fabrication of MWCNT-based FE tips.

In this study, we experimentally investigate of a two-phase natural circulation loop that functions as apassive containment cooling system (PCCS). The experimental apparatus comprises two loops: a hotloop, for simulating containment under severe accidents, and a natural circulation loop, for simulatingthe PCCS. The experiment is conducted by controlling the pressure and inlet temperature of the hot loopin the range of 0.59e0.69 MPa (abs) and 119.6e158.8 C, respectively. The heat balance of the hot loop isestablished and compared with a natural circulation loop to assess the thermal reliability of theexperimental apparatus, and an additional system is installed to measure the vapor mass flow rate. Furthermore, the thermalehydraulic characteristics are considered in terms of a temperature, mass flowrate, heat transfer coefficient (HTC), etc. The flow rate of the natural circulation loop is induced primarilyby flashing, and a distortion is observed in the local HTC because of the fully develop as well as subcooledboiling. As a result, we present the amount of heat capacity that the PCCS can passively remove accordingto the experimental conditions and compared the heat transfer performance using Chen's and DittusBoelter correlation.

Phytopathogenic Erwinia carotovora subsp. carotovora (Ecc) LY34 causes plant tissue maceration by secretion of pectinolytic enzymes such as pectate lyase (PL) existed as multiple isoenzyme form. Genomic DNA from Ecc LY34 was digested with Sau3AI and ligated into the BamHI site of pBluescript Ⅱ SK^+. Among them, a clone hydrolyzing polypectate was selected and its DNA was digested with BamHI. Through the subsequent subcloning the resulting 3.1 kb fragment, corresponding to a pelCI, was subcloned into pLYPA 100. The structural organization of a pelCI gene encoding a 374 amino acid residues consists of an open reading frame (ORF) of 1,122 by commencing with a ATG start codon and followed by a TAA stop codon. PelCI contained a typical prokaryotic signal peptide of 22-amino acid. Since the deduced amino acid sequences of PelCI protein was very similar to those of PelIII of Erwinia carotovora subsp. carotovora, and to those of Pel3 of Erwinia carotovora subsp. atroseptica, and to those of PelC of Erwinia carotovora subsp. carotovora, it belong to the same family PLbc group. The 374-amino acid PelCI had a calculated Mr of 40,507 and pI of 7.60.
