The object of this study is to investigate the effect of compounded welding by using acoustic emission (AE) signals for weld heat affected zone (HAZ) in tensile testing. This study was carried out a SM 490A high tension steel for electronic shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), CO₂ gas arc welding and TIG welding. And correspondingly, the root openings are 3, 4 and 2.8㎜. Data displays are based on the measured parameters of the AE signals, along with environmental variables such as time and load. These history plots give us useful and powerful information to analyze the results of material evaluation testing.

This study has performed rotary bending fatigue testing that smooth specimen using SM45C materials and notched specimen whose radii were R6, R4 and R2, were processed in 3% NaCl aqueous solutions or in the air. The results are as followed; 1. In the air fatigue limit at 10^(7) cycles remarkably reduced as notch radius goes small. 2. In 3% NaCl aqueous solution fatigue strength at 10^(6) cycles also had large range of reduction as notch radius goes small. 3. Comparing fatigue strength in the air, fatigue strength at 10^(6) cycles in 3% NaCl aqueous solution reduced by 46.2% at smooth specimen, 55.3% at R6 notch radius, 45.8% at R4 and 39.7% at R2 respectively. 4. The reason that fatigue strength reduced in the reduction of notch radius size was because the surface of notch exposed in corrosion was small and consequently it was less corroded.

This study was carried out a SM 490A high tension steel for electronic shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), CO₂ gas arc welding and TIG welding. Data displays are based on the measured parameters of the AE signals, along with environmental variables such as time and load. These history plots are displays showing the chronological course of the test. Also, source location gives the X- and Y-coordinates of the AE source.

This study proposed a technique for inverse problem, linear approximation of contact position and loading in single and double meshing of spur gear, using 2-dimension model considered near the tooth by root stress. Determine root stress is carried out for the gear tooth by finite element method and boundary element method. Boundary element discretization near contact point is carefully performed to keep high computational accuracy. And from those estimated results, the comparing estimate value with boundary element method value was discussed.

The results of source location in terms of AE signal occurred by the spot exciting as suggested in this research, it has been confirmed that AE technique is quite fruitful in figuring out the location of the occurrence, form, size and direction of the defects. Thus, it is expected that the application of the experimental method suggested in this study would make it possible to identify, in the nondestructive way, the location of the defect in the material.

The object of this study is to investigate the effect of compounded welding through the AE (Acoustic Emission) characteristics on static tensile test. This study was carried out a SM 490A, high tension steel using the low hydrogen type E4316 of electronic shield metal arc welding and compound wire of CO₂ gas arc welding. CO₂ welding, weak in the intensity v of HAZ (Heat Affected Zone), can be improved by being combined with coated arc welding, Coated arc welding, weak in the intensity of the bead, can be improved by being combined with CO₂ welding. Especially, electronic coated arc welding and CO₂ welding complement the mechanical intensity of HAZ and the bead with each other. So, compounded welding increases the intensity in the special parts and enhances the quality of goods.
