Interferon preparations, in addition to their antiviral properties, may inhibit cell growth and multiplication, enhance the expression of cell surface antigens and influence some functions of T-1ymphocytes, macrophages and natural killer cells. The study was performed in order to investigate the cytolytic effect, antiproli ferative effect and HLA antigen expression effect of the gamma-interferon(IFN- r ) on human melanoma cell line A-375. the cytolytic activities were checked by 'Cr release assay, the antiproliferative activities were analyzed by the 'H-thymidine uptake test and HLA antigen expressions were observed by the indirect imrnuno fluor esent method. The results were as follows : 1. The cytolytic effect of the peripheral rnononuclea.r cells treated with INF- on A 375 human melanoma cell line was increased to 31.4%, 36.5%, 33.9%, 53.9 %, 13.9% respectively in the experiment 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 as compared to control group (-11.4%, 3.6%, 18.5%, 35.5%, 6.7% respectively). 2. 1ri the dose response check of the peripheral mononuclear cells treated with INF r to A 375, the cytolytic effect was definitely observed at 200U/ml concentration of the INF r and maximal effect was observed at 500U/ml concentration. 3. The IIUF r treated natural killer cells did not show any significant increase in cytolytie activity as compared to that of untreated natural killer cell and the same results were obtained with monocytes. This cytolytic activity was significantly increased when INF-r treated natural killer cells were co-culturd with monoeytes. 4. The cyaolytjc activity of natural killer cells was increased at the same degree when using culture supernant of INF- treated monocytes as in the case of using

Ribavirin ( Virazole ) 의 대상포진에 대한 치험

Ribavirin(l-β-D-ribofuranosyl-l, 2, 4-triazole-3-carboximide, Virazole^R) is a. synthetic nucleoside derivative with reported broad spectrum activity in vitro and in vivo against a wide variety of DNA and RNA viruses. This drug works by selective inhibition of viral protein in the early stage of viral replication, but does not influence on host cell protein. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the therapeutic effect of Ribavirin in patients with herpes zoster. A total of 15 patients entered this study at the Department of Dermatology, Seoul National University Hospital during 5 months' period, from May, 1980 to September, 1980, Ribavirin(10mg/kg/d) was given to 10 patients. After initiation of therapy, we observed duration of pain and vesicles and onset of crust formation in each patient clinically. The results observed in the 15 patients were as follows. 1. The average duration of pain was 6. 0 days in Ribavirin group and 8. 6 days i@n. control group (p$lt;0. 05). 2. Postherpetic neuralgia was not @found in any patients treated with Ribavirin. 3. The average duzation of all vesicles and onset of crust formation were 7. 0 days and 3. 8 days in Ribavirin group and 7. 2 days and 4. 2 days in control group respectively. 4. No side effects were observed during the course of Ribavirin treatment.

에크린 혈관종성 과오종 1 예

Eccrine angiomatous hamartoma(Hyman set al, 1968) or sudoriparous angioma(Domonkos et al, 1967) is a hamartoma in which hyperplasia of eccrine sweat apparatus and of vascular elements are present in the same lesion^(1), 2)). Most of the case were noted at birth or appeared at an early age, especially on the extremities. Hyperhidrosis over the lesion was repirted in some cases. We couldn't find any report in the Korean literature and in the Index Medicus diagnosed as eccrine angiomatous hamartoma or sudoriparous angioma since Hyman et al's and Domonkos st al's cases. We are to present a case of eccrine angiomatous hamartoma developed on the medial side of the right knee in a 13-month-old male patient.

심상성 조창에 대한 Panoxy 2.5 ( 2.5 % Benzoyl Peroxide Gel ) 의 치료효과

Bezoyl peroxide, a powerful oxidizing agent, has been uaed topically in the treatment of acne vulgaris as a cream or lotion and has been shown to he effective for this codition. In 1972 Fulton emphaaized the importance of the vehicles used to obtain. maximum potential of benzoyl peroxide and for this, the gel formulation has been examined in many clinical trials. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the therapeutic effect of Fanoxyl 2.5^ⓡ, a 2.5% . benzayl peraxide gel, in patients with acne vulgaris. A total of 31 patients entered this study at the Departrnent of Dermatology, Jeoul National University Hospital rluring 3 rnanths period, from Decemher, 1978 through February, 1979, All patienta were instructed to apply Fanoxyl 2.5^ⓡ on their affected areas once or twice a day and the nurnber of lesions on two or three t fixed areas were counted before and onee weekly after initation of the treatment. The reaults observed in the 3I patients were as follaws; 1. The percentage decrease in total nurnber of lesions in 4 weeks after treatment was 56.9%. 2. The authors could follow up for 6 weeks in 6 cases. In 6 case, the mean percentage in total number of lesions in 6 weeks after treatment was 81.7%. 3. Clesed and open eomedones were gradually eliminated; and their numbers were decreased in 4 weeks after treatment by 46.5% and 56.8% respeetiveIy. The papules were rapidly eliminated and their numbers were decreased in 4 weeka, after treatment by 79.8%. 4. Although most patients felt a mild burning sensation and tightness at the begining of the treatment, only a minority of the patients complained of discomfort due to pain(l case), erytherna(l case), tightness(2 cases),burning sensation (1 case), scaling(1 case). But all were tolerable without taking any specific measures or discontinuance of application. In one case, contact dermatitis developed after 4 weeks treatment. The authors concluded through this experiment that Panoxyl 2.5^ⓡ (2.5% benzoyl peroxide gel) is a very effective local therapeutic agent in the treatment of acne vulgaris patients.

수종 피부질환자에서 Clocortolone ( Purantix , Sandoz ) 의 치료효과에 대한 임상적 관찰

Cloeortolone (9-a-chloro-6-a fluoro-11-B 21 digydroxy-16 methyl preganl,4-diene) is a newly synthesized corticonsteroid which has been found to have potent antinflammatory action and good tolerance through animal experiment. Several investigators reported its therapeutic affect in various dermatoses by topical application. The present was undertaken to evaluate the therapeutic effect of 0.1% clocortolone cream (Purantix-Sandoz) in patients with eczematous dermatoses and with psoriasis and to compare its effect with that of I% hydrocortisone. Eleven patients with contact dermatitis, 10 with psoriasis entered this study durtin the period of 6 months from January to june, 1977 at the Department of Dermatology, Seoul National University Hospital. All patients were instructed to apply 0.1% Clocortolone cream on one side of their lesion and 1%hydrocortisone cream on the opposite site for two weeks. After wo weeks' period of observation the status of the lesion was evaluated clinically and the tesults were as follows. 1. Ninety one percent of patiens with contact dermatitis, 70% of atopic dermatitis, 60% of nenrodermatitis, 67% of nummular eczema and 60% of psoriasis responded very effectively or moderately effectively. The therapeutic responses were generally similar to that of 1% hydrocortisone. 2. During the ovservation period, there was no systemic of local side effect of 0.1% Clocortolone cream.
