        We report an experimental verification of Berry s phase for noncyclic evolution curves by use of the geodesic rule. we measure the rotation of the plane of polarization in the system of uniformly wound half turn single mode optical fibers The experiments show that we can extract such purely geometric effects for noncyclic evolution.

        For a cyclic evolution, the value of the geometrical phase is unique. we discuss that, for a noncyclic evolution, it may have two different values in cases with and without measurements in the projective Hilbert space, respectively. that which value of them will be calculated depends on the use of geodesic rule. In order to illustrate this, we propose the calculation method of Berry s phase by the use of geodesic rule in the systems of adiabatic and noncyclic evolution curves.

        The value of the geometrical phase observed with two disconnected uniformly wound quarter-turn optical fibers and a linear polarizer between them is quite different from that measured with a uniformly wound half turn optical fiber although evolution curves in the propogation vector sphere for the cases are the same We try to analyze the experimental data by applying the geodesic rule to each evolution curve for the two quarter turn fibers Although this is only a trial, the theoretically obtained values are well compatible with the experimental data.

        We report experimental verification of Berry's topological phase. The key elements in the experiment was a single mode, helically wound optical fiber, inside which a photon of a given helicity could be adiabatically transported around a closed path in momentum space. The experiment confirmed at the classical level that the angle of rotation of linearly polarized light in this fiber gives a direct measure of Berry's phase. The topological nature of this effect was also verified, ie, the rotation was found to be independent of deformations of fiber path if the solid angle of the path in momentum space stayed constant.

        Generally when the light beam propogates through a material medium the phase and intensity of the light are subjected to change. These changes are determined by the refractive index and the absorption coefficient of the medium. If one of these parameters is known then the other parameter can be determined by the Kramers-Kronig relation. In this experiment a new experimental technique which can measure the refractive index and absorption coefficient at the same time using I/Q homodyne interferometer is shown. It can measure in-phase and quadrature phase of a probe beam at the same time. Potential use of this technique in measuring the optical properties of the medium is discussed

        The values of the geometric phase observed with and without are not different from that measured with a uniformly wound optical fiber. The experimental data is found to be independent of measurement of polarizer by applying the geodesic rule for the noncyclic. we can not apply the geodesic rule for the cyclic.

      • A Faraday Current Sensor using the Line Integral Method of the Magnetic field

        We propose and experimentally demonstrate a new topology for an optical Faraday current sensor that is based on the finite line integral method of the magnetic field. Emulating a conventional closed loop type current sensor head since these sensors are fabricated in the form of either a rod or a glass slab along the perpendicular direction to a conductor carrying current it can used to make the measurement without interrupting the current.

        휴대용 열선법 열전도도 측정장치 제작

        A hot wire portable thermal conductivity meter that can measure simply and quickly the thermal conductivity of low-thermal-conductivity materials, such as bricks, concrete, glass, woods, foods, and plastics, was developed, and its performance was investigated. The measurable conductivity range with this apparatus, within $\pm$5 \% accuracy was 0.1 $\sim$ 1.0 Wm$^{-1}$K$^{-1}$, and the apparatus could be used to measure the thermal conductivities of any materials that had a flat surface with size of 11 cm by 5 cm. 벽돌, 콘크리트, 유리, 목재, 플라스틱 등 열전도도가 낮은 물질의 열전도도를 보다 간편하고 신속하게 측정 할 수 있는 휴대용 열선법 (hot-wire method) 열전도도 측정 장치를 제작하고 성능을 검사하였다. 제작된 장비는 0.1 $\sim$ 1.0 Wm$^{-1}$K$^{-1}$ 범위의 열전도도가 $\pm$5 \% 이내의 정확도로 측정이 가능하며, 측정 대상물질의 크기가 11 cm $\times$ 5 cm 이내인 평면이면 측정이 가능한 것으로 확인하였다.

        I/Q 변조 풀이 방식의 헤테로다인 간섭계를 이용한 미소 전기장 및 복굴절 측정

        편광유지 광섬유를 이용한 주파수가 안정화된, 두 개의 서로 수직으로 편광된 종모우드를 갖는 He-Ne레이저 빛을 LoTa $O_{3}$ 위상변조기로 구성된 센서부(sensor head)로 전달해 줌으로써 원격에서 전기장을 측정할 수 있는 hybrid, heterodyne 간섭식 센서를 구성하였다. In/quadrature-phase위상변조풀이 방식을 이용하여 전기광학 효과에 의해 서로 수직으로 편광된 두 모우드 사이에 유도된 위상차이를 측정함으로써 항상 높은 검지율을 유지할 수 있는 전기장 센서를 구성하고, 이를 이용하여 광학 물질에 유도된 복굴절도 측정을 할 수 있었다. A new hybrid, heterodyne, fiber-optic electric field sensor scheme is presented. In this scheme, a dual polarization, dual frequency, stabilized He-Ne laser is used for the light source of the interferometer, Probe beam is delivered to the sensor head using polarization maintaining fiber. In the sensor head, $LiTaO_3$ electro-optic crystal is used for sensing element. Phase retardation is induced on the dual frquency, dual polarization probe beam due to applied electric field across the crystal. Induced phase retardation is demodulated by in-phase and quadrature demodulation technique. In this way, we can obtain optimum sensitivity for electric field measurement regardless a quasi-static phase difference between two polarization components.
