Wood pellet is a densified fuel with homogeneous physical properties suitable for use in various scales of domestic and industrial furnaces. A wood pellet stove is a small-scale furnace for domestic heat production, which can replace the conventional oil or gas boilers. Since the fuel properties of wood pellet is very different from oil or gas, the design of a wood pellet stove requires profound understanding on the solid fuel combustion as well as gas flow mixing/reactions. Due to the size limit of the furnace height (~1m) for domestic installation, poor design of furnace, air supply and heat exchanger may lead to excessive emission of CO or low energy efficiencies. This study evaluated the design of an existing wood pellet stove with 30,000 ㎉/hr capacity using experimental and computational techniques in order to optimize the furnace design. The results show that it is critical to minimize the unused furnace volume and to enhance the gaseous mixing for reduced CO emission.

Pyrolysis thermally decomposes lignocellulosic materials into tar vapor and gases leaving the carbonaceous solid residue (char). Although numerous studies have been reported for this key process of biomass thermal conversion, pyrolysis remains as the most complicated phenomena due to the complexity associated with the structural changes, a large number of compounds generated and their secondary reactions. One difficulty in biomass studies is the gap between the analytical characterization using a thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) and pyrolysis of actual large particles. This paper reports a preliminary study on the effect of particle size in pyrolysis using wood pellets. The pyrolytic mass loss curve from a TGA with fine sawdust and a thermobalance with large pellets were compared, and the difference was discussed using prediction of heat transfer rates. Further study is required on detailed product characterization including the tar and gases for various particle sizes.

모바일 통신이 발달함에 따라 이동이 편리한 휴대폰 등의 모바일 컴퓨터 시스템이 많이 이용되고 있다. 하지만, 모바일 컴퓨팅 성능은 데스크탑의 컴퓨팅 성능에 비하여 현저히 떨어지기 때문에 많은 계산이나 처리를 요구하는 소프트웨어를 휴대폰과 같은 모바일단말기에서 이용하는데에는 많은 어려움이 있다. 이에 따라 본 논문에서는 휴대폰 상에서 대용량 소프트웨어를 실행사키기 위해, 기존의 JPVM클러스터 시스템을 확장하여 휴대폰이 JPVM 클러스터 시스템에 참여할 수 있도록 진보하고 JPVM 클러스터 라이브러리를 설계하고 구현하였다.
