한국사상(韓國思想)(사학(史學)) : 국가적 위기와 역사, 문화의 중요성 -『뉴욕타임즈』 3,1 독립운동 관련 친일 기사와 대응을 중심으로-

1919년 3·1 독립운동은 한국 근현대 정치사는 물론 문화사적으로도 매우 중요한 사건 중 하나이다. 3·1 독립운동의 여파는 일본을 당황하게 만들었고 2명의 친일 미국인이 일본을 옹호하는 자신들의 입장을 『뉴욕타임즈』에 기고하면서 재미 한국인들의 강한 반박을 받았다. 그 결과 미국인들의 인식을 변화시켜 역사적, 문화적 정당성을 바탕으로 한국의 자주독립에 동조하는 모습을 보이게 된다. 당시 미국에서 가장 영향력 있던 『뉴욕타임즈』 역시 3·1 독립운동과 한국의 자주독립을 지지하는 모습으로 논조를 바꾸게 된다. 물론 3·1 독립운동 자체가 가진 정당성이 중요한 역할을 했으나 이를 미국인들에게 전달하는데 결정적인 역할을 한 사건은 바로 이 신문 지면을 통한 논란을 통해서다. 3·1 독립운동에도 불구하고 드류 신학대학교 교수였던 소퍼(E. D. Soper) 목사와 예일대학교의 라드(G. T. Ladd) 교수는 한국에 대한 일제의 만행을 옹호하려 했다. 동시에 3·1 독립운동 자체의 의의를 무시하려 했다. 그들은 3·1 독립운동을 잘못된 사실에 바탕을 둔 소수 불만세력에 의한 사건으로 규정하고 일본의 입장을 옹호하려고 노력했으나, 이들의 기사는 재미 한국인들의 강력한 반발을 사기에 충분했다. 이승만과 헨리 정 그리고 ``한국의 아들``이라고 가명을 쓴 이가 사실과 역사적 당위성에 바탕을 둔 반박 기사를 기고해 일제 만행의 실상을 미국인들에게 전달했다. 역사적, 문화적으로 자주독립의 정당성을 주장했다. 다수의 미국인들도 2명의 친일 미국인과 달리 한국의 입장을 옹호하면서 일본을 규탄했다. 객관적이고 논리적인 반박을 통해 두 명의 친일 미국인은 더 이상 일본의 입장을 옹호하려는 주장하지 못하고 지면에서 사라졌다. 이 사건은 3·1 독립운동과 한국 독립의 문화적, 역사적 정당성을 성공적으로 제시해 미국인들의 호응을 받는데 성공한 적지만 비폭력, 평화적 3·1 독립운동의 정신을 외국 땅에서 계승한 매우 의미 있는 사건이었다. March First Independence Movement of 1919 was one of the most significant events not only in the modern and comtemporary political history of Korea, but in the cultural history. Because of its impact, a couple of pro-Japanese Americans expressed their thoughts on the New York Times and they received strong criticism from Koreans in the United States that resulted the change of American views on Korea to more favorable for her independence based on their cultural and historical justification. It was a successful continuation of the spirit of the March First Independence Movement in a foreign land. Dr. E. D. Soper of Drew Theological Seminary and George T. Ladd of Yale University attempted to justify Japanese control over Korea. At the same time, they tried to ignore the significance of the peaceful, non-violent March First Independence Movement. They insisted that it was caused by the small number of secret societies with false information. Even Ladd accused that it was a violent revolt that caused the Japanese reactions. Although Ladd changed his stands little in his second article, he tried to protect the Japanese position again. These report and articles faced the strong reactions from the Koreans in America. Rhee Syngman and Henry Chung as well as a ``son of Korea`` reacted in the same newspaper with factual information on the condition of Korea under the Japanese control since the annexation as well as the specific information on the March First Independence Movement itself. Also, they provided historical information to attack false information by the Soper and Ladd. Some Americans joined this effort to express the sympathy on Korean causes while accusing Japan. Objective and logical refutation made those two pro-Japanese Americans to give up their effort to protect Japanese interests in the United States. The cultural and historical justification of the movement received sympathy of Americans.

한국사상(韓國思想) 사학(史學) : 한글 창조의 의의에 대한 재고찰

2012년 12월 24일 국무회의에서 한글날을 다시 국경일로 지정하고 공휴일에 포함시켰다. 이를 환영하는 입장이 대다수지만 한글날이 정치 사회적 상황에 따라 그 중요성이 변화한다는 것은 실로 개탄스러운 일이다. 이는 한글이 한국사에서 차지하는 독보적인 가치와 그 문화, 역사적 의의를 정확히 인식하지 못하고 있는 현실을 보여준 것이다. 정치사회적으로 볼 때 한글의 역사적 의의는 세계에서 가장 빠르게 중앙집권적 정치체제를 확립한 것을 들 수 있다. 천년 이상을 지속해 온 불교문화를 중국의 성리학체제로 변화시켰다는 점에서 조선은 정치적 부담을 갖고 시작했다. 특히 성리학의 정치적 이념이 중앙집권체제의 구축에 있었기에 이를 구현하고자 하는 노력이 필요했다. 역사적, 정치적 당위성을 위해 백성과의 소통이 필요했고 그 결과가 한글창제였다. 동시에 국가 창건의 주역들을 정치 중심에서 배제하기 위해 새로운 글자체계로 한자를 통한 기득권층에 쇄신을 추구했던 것이다. 자신들의 기득권을 포기하고 새로운 문자체제를 받아들여 군주에게 충성심을 보인 새로운 세력으로 지속 가능한 중앙집권체제를 유지하려 했던 것이 한글의 정치사회적 의의이다. 그러나 무엇보다도 중요한 것은 한글창제의 문화적 의의이다. 천 년을 넘게 이어져온 한자의 사용은 구전문화에서 한국문화가 벗어날 수 있는 중요한 계기가 되었다. 그러나 한국인의 생각과 정서를 글로 표현하기 위해서는 한자에 맞추어 변형하거나 포기해야 하는 문제가 지속되었다. 한글로 인해 한국인의 언어를 있는 그대로 표현하고 기록해 진정한 기록문화가 시작되었다는 것이 한글의 문화적 의의이다. 동시에 성리학적 체제 구축을 완성한 중국문화 수용이 정점에 다 달았던 세종대왕 시기에 한글이 발명되면서 한국적 문화 정체성이 구축된 것도 매우 중요한 의미를 갖는다. 한글은 한국의 문화를 한국적으로 구축하는 기본 토대이다. 현대 세계화가 진행되면서 문화적 정체성은 선진국의 필수 요소가 되었다. 이를 가능케 한 한글의 의의를 정확히 인식하는 것이 무엇보다 필요한 시점이다. On December 24, 2012 the Cabinet decided to re-designate the Hangul Day as a national holiday with day-off. It has been excluded from the national holiday since 1991. It is shame that Hangul Day has been a socio-political issue. It was the result that the historical and cultural significances of Hangul are not well recognized. Socio-politically, Hangul made possible that Korea created centralized kingship faster than any other major state around the world in the fifteenth century. Replacing century-old Buddhism with Neo-Confucianism from China was a major risk Joseon started with. For the political and historical justification, Joseon court needed a communication channel with commoners and Hangul was the major tool for the communication. At the same time, Sejong the Great needed to replace the powerful yangban class who helped the creation of the new dynasty. Breaking the monopoly of power from the domination of use of Chinese characters, Sejong invented a new writing system. A new group of yangbans who were ready to sacrifice the monopoly to support the government made it possible for Sejong to create the sustainable centralized government. The most significant achievement of the invention of Hangul is the creation of true written tradition of Korean civilization. Koreans began to write their thoughts and emotions with alteration and limitation by using Chinese characters. At the same time, the invention took place at the peak of Chinese cultural influence. With Hangul, Korea was able to create the cultural identity. It is the most important significance of the invention of Hangul. Hangul is the foundation of the Korean culture. At the time of globalization, cultural identity is the key element of the civilized country. Korea became a major country in the world and Hangul made it possible.

한국(韓國)의 문화(文化) : 한국 하동과 중국 황산의 차문화관광 비교연구

본 연구는 차문화관광의 비교분석을 위해 한국 차 시배지인 하동과 중국 3대 명차를 생산하는 명승지인 황산의 차문화관광, 즉 두 지역의 차의 역사와 다원 경관, 차의 종류와 다례?다예, 차문화관광 상품과 관광수용태세 등을 중심으로 비교분석을 실시하였다. 하여 대안을 모색하였다. 하동과 황산은 유구한 전통문화와 아름다운 다원 경관이 차문화관광을 활성화시키는 토대가 되었다. 신라 흥덕왕 3년(828년) 한국에서 처음으로 차를 재배했던 하동지역은 천혜의 자연경관이 수려하고 맛과 품질이 우수한 녹차를 생산하고 있다. 한국에서는 다례가 발달했는데, 외빈을 접대하는 의식다례와 제사 지낼 때의 차례 등의 형태로 발전하였다. 중국의 황산은 세 가지 명차를 생산하고 있다. 모봉차와 태평후괴는 1875년에, 기문홍차는 1900년에 제조하기 시작했다. 다예 공연은 차문화를 즐기는 관광객들에게 인기있는 프로그램이며, 차문화축제의 영향력은 절대적이다. 또한 황산은 주변 관광지와 연계된 관광코스가 활성화되어 다양한 형태의 차문화관광이 이루어지고 있다. 두 지역은 차문화의 역사성과 천혜의 자연경관, 박물관이나 전시관을 설립하고 아름다운 생태다원을 조성하였다. 차문화축제는 두 지역에서 차문화관광을 견인하는 역할을 담당하고 있다. 하동의 야생차 문화축제는 다양한 체험행사와 차별화된 프로그램들이 하동치의 브랜드 가치 제고에 기여하고 있다. 황산 태평후괴차 문화축제는 주변 명승지와의 연계 관광코스가 좋고, 농가락 형식의 관광과 결합해 성장하였지만 온라인을 활용한 홍보 서비스와 외국인 관광객들을 위한 관광편의시설이 부족하여 개선이 필요하다. 향후 두 지역의 차문화관광이 지속적으로 발전하기 위해서는 차문화축제 외에도 차문화를 주제로 한 리조트를 개발하거나 전통 차문화를 현대문화와 결합시켜 창조적으로 계승 발전시켜야 한다. Tea culture represents both visible and nonvisible value system of people having a tea and implies values of wellbeing, self-examination, communication, ceremony, education, leisure, art·aesthetic appreciation, and ecology·environment. This study adopted the comparative study between Hadong, a famous tea cultivation area in Korea and Hwangsan, one of three most famous tea growing places in China in terms of tea history, tea garden scenery, tea types, tea ceremony, tea art, and tea culture tourism products and tourism preparations to receive. Authors proposed several implications based on comparative study between Hadong and Hwangsan in terms of tea history, tea garden scenery, tea types, tea ceremony, tea art, and tea culture tourism products and tourism preparations to receive. Both areas should develop a tea themed resort with a tea culture festival as well as to foster the traditional tea culture into a new art form with a modern culture atmosphere.

제 3 부 한국인의 효문화 : 한국 교육의 현실과 해결방안

한국의 교육은 제도적으로 세계 어느 나라와 비교해도 우수한 시스템을 갖고 있다. 또한 국민의 교육열은 타의 추종을 불허할 정도로 대단하다. 이런 현실은 외국의 평가를 통해서도 입증되고 있다. 그러나 교육을 받고 있는 청소년들이 행복한가에 대해서는 당혹스런 결론에 도달할 수밖에 없다. 또한 교육에 대한 결과 역시 만족도가 떨어진다. 산업화 과정이 너무 짧았기에 사회적 적응기간이 부족했던 한국은 도덕성 상실은 물론 과정은 등한시 하고 결과만을 중시하는 사회풍조를 초래했다. 부정부패가 만연하고 책임은 없고 권리만을 주장하는 상황에서 청소년들은 성적순으로 줄을 서도록 강요되었고 그 순서에 의해 자신의 미래가 결정되고 있음에 좌절하고 있다. 학교의 성적이 사회의 성공과 연결되면서 대다수 청소년들에게 교육은 희망이 아닌 좌절로 다가오고 있다. 직장의 서열화는 대학의 서열화를 부르고 대학의 서열화는 청소년 교육의 비정상화를 부추기고 있다. 그렇다고 지도층이 도덕적이지도 못한 현실에서 성공한 사람에 대해 인정하지 않으려는 풍토가 만들어졌다. 그럼에도 불구하고 청소년들에게 희망을 주는 교육을 제공하는 것은 기성세대의 의무이자 책임이다. 사회 전반에 걸친 부조리를 단기간에 해결하는 것은 불가능한 일이다. 그러나 교육을 통해 다음 세대를 변화시키고 한발 한발 바꿔 나갈 수는 있다. 우선 교육을 학교에서만 한다는 고정관념을 버려야 할 것이다. 효교육을 통해 가정을 교육의 기본 단위로 끌어들여야 한다. 가족 간의 소통이 이웃 간의 소통으로 이어지고 이를 통해 상대방을 존중하는 사회로나갈 수 있도록 효의 가치를 전통을 바탕으로 현대 사회에 접목시키려는 시도가 필요하다. 또한 사회적 가치를 구축하는 방법으로 조선의 선비정신 같은 전통적 가치를 바탕으로 현대사회에 접목할 수 있는 가치판단 기준을 제공해야 할 것이다. 한국은 최고의 교육 인프라를 갖고 있다. 또한 세계 최고의 교육열을 유지하고 있다. 무엇보다도 상고시대부터 유지되어 온 교육 전통을 갖고 있다. 전통은 옛 것이 아니라 기존의 가치를 유지하면서 현실에 맞게 변형해 유지하는 것이다. 한국에는 이 모든 것이 있다. 이제 시대에 맞게 공공의 선을 추구할 수 있는 공감대를 바탕으로 새로운 가치를 만들어낼 때 난관을 다시 한 번 극복할 수 있을 것이다. 교육은 성과가 아니라 과정이라는 기본으로 돌아가기 위해 5,000년을 이어온 뛰어난 전통을 시대적 요구에 맞게 다시 부활시켜 개념의 근간으로 삼아야 할 것이다. Korean education system is considered as one of the best in the world. Also no one surpasses the Korean people’s passion for the better education. However, the question that are students happy makes Korean people embarrassed. Since Korea achieved economic development in a relatively short period of time, Korean society lost its traditional moral standard and emphasizes the results not the process socially. Corruption prevailed and people demand their rights without accepting the responsibilities. At the same time, young students fell lost while their futures are determined by their grades. Korean education system was in trouble since Korean society lines up the companies from top to bottom as well as universities. Furthermore, the corruptions of haves makes people not respect the successful people. Still, education for youths is a duty and responsibility of the old generation. It is impossible to change entire system, but it’s possible to improve the condition through education of the next generation. This is why the education reform is so needed in Korea. First of all, the fixed idea of education as the roll of school onlymust be discarded. As a solution, Korean education system may adopt the education of filial piety. Through the education of filial piety, it creates communication among family members that cam be developed in a communication with neighbors. As a result youth can develop a sese to respect common good of the society. Achieving this, the concept of filial piety needs to be developed to work in the contemporary Korean society. At the same time, the traditional value of Seonbi(gentry) spirit of Joseon must transform to suit for the comtemporary moral standards. Korea has one of the best educational infrastructure with passion for the better education. Most of all, Korea has a long tradition of education since the epic era. Tradition is not an old thing, it is a system based on old but universal values and developed by embracing the comtemporary values. Korea has all. As Korean people cooperate and share the value and responsibilities together, Korea can overcome the crisis again and provide new and better educational system.
