CO2 absorption experiments are performed with two different devices: a tray column and an annular contactor that rotates at different speeds. Al2O3 nanoparticles are suspended in methanol to produce nanofluids with the purpose of enhancing the absorption rate of the CO2 gas into the absorbent. The experimental system has a mass flow controller at the inlet and a mass flow meter at the outlet to measure the absorption rate in the continuous system.

In this study, dodecane nanoemulsions based on methanol are manufactured as CO2 absorbents. The thermophysical properties and dispersion stability of nanoemulsion absorbents are evaluated. Two surfactants, Span 60 and Tween 60 are selected considering the chemical types of hydrocarbons. Span 60 and Tween 60 are mixed with a ratio of 4:6 to make a same HLB number as required by the HLB of dodecane which is 10.5. The thermal conductivity is measured according to the ratio of dodecane and surfactant in methanol, and the solution with the highest dispersion stability is selected.
