A model of 0.5-pF toroidal cross capacitor, which realizes the Thompson-Lampard theorem, has been fabricated, and its characteristics have been experimentally analyzed. This capacitor has a completely different structure and completely different characteristics from standard capacitors. It also has some advantages, such as elimination of the end effects generated on the vertical cross capacitor, insensitivity of the output capacitance to geometrical distortions of the electrodes, and insensitivity of the capacitance and the dissipation factors to dielectric films on the surfaces of the electrodes. Thompson-Lampard 정리를 실현시킨 0.5 pF 토로이드형 크로스 커패시터를 제작하여 그 특성을 실험적으로 분석하였다. 이 커패시터는 일반적인 전기용량 표준기의 원리와는 완전히 다른 구조와 특징을 지니고 있다. 이 커패시터는 기존의 수직형 크로스 커패시터에서 발생되는 가드 전극에서의 끝단효과(end effects)가 배제되고, 출력 전기용량이 전극구조의 변형에 둔감하고, 전기용량 및 손실계수가 전극표면에 존재하는 유전체 필름에 대해 둔감하다는 등의 장점이 있다는 것을 확인하였다.

축전기의 평행판 전극 사이에 주입된 액체 유전체 유동에 의해 발생되는 차동 전기용량 변화를 토대로 기울기의 정밀측정 방법을 개발하였다. 기울기(각도) 0$^\circ \sim \pm$ 90 $^\circ$의 범위에서 직선에 대한 상관계수가 0.99999로 분석되었으며, 주파수 100 Hz $\sim$ 100 kHz 범위에서 주파수 영향은 없었다. 전극구조를 완벽한 3-단자형 축전기로 설계하였기 때문에, 외부로부터의 전자기 잡음 또는 전기장 영향이 전혀 없이 기울기를 정밀하게 측정할 수 있었다. 또한 안정된 디지털 출력을 이용하여 기울기의 정밀측정 뿐만 아니라 장치나 구조물 등의 기울기의 원격조정 또는 항시기록(monitoring)에도 적용이 가능하다. A precise method for measuring inclination, which is based on the measurement of differential capacitances generated by a liquid dielectric flowing between parallel-type electrodes of a capacitor, has been developed. The correlation coefficient of the sensor was analyzed to be 0.99999 in the range of inclinations from 0$^o$ to $\pm$ 90$^o$, and no frequency effect was detected in the range of 100 Hz to 100 kHz. Because the electrode's structure was designed as a perfect 3-terminal capacitor, the inclination was precisely measured without any effects due to environmental noise or electric fields. Because of its stable digital output, this method is applicable not only for precise measurements of inclination but also for either remote control or monitoring of inclinations of instruments and/or constructions.

A coil-type capacitive sensor on which the deterioration of the car engine oil can be in situ measured, has been developed. The sensor was designed to get over 10 pF at the limited space on the drain hole of the oil pan. The design factors for stable capacitance measurement such as coil diameter and winding condition, materials and configuration of the coil former, and shielding method, etc., were known by both computer simulation and experimental investigations. The dielectric properties measured by several sensors for an used sample oil were consisted within 0.25 %. The sensor installed on the cat having severe vibration, temperature and humidity fluctuation, even electromagnetic noise, has shown very distinguishable results.

Non-contacting capacitive sensors, based on principle of the cross capacitor, for measuring small displacement less than 1.95±0.5 mm have been fabricated and characterized. To overcome disadvantages of the existed capacitive sensors with 2-electrodes and 3-electrodes, the new sensor is consisted of 4-electrodes which are formed two electrode(high, low) and 2 guard electrodes on a sapphire plate with diameter 17 mm and thickness 0.7 mm, and are symmetrically situated with a constant gap of 0.2 mm between the electrodes. This sensor can be used for measuring both metallic and non-metallic target without ground connection, and is evaluated to the correlation coefficient of 0.9987 for the range of 1.95±0.25 mm and that of 0.9995 for 1.95±0.25 mm range.

It is very difficult to measure inductance more accurately than 0.1% by the general AC bridges. A Maxwell-Wien bridge system has been developed for establishment and propagation of the national inductance standards. In results of its capability analysis, the accuracy of this bridge system was obtained up to ${\pm}$200 ppm for the present. 일반적인 교류 브릿지를 이용하여 인덕턴스를 0.1% 이상의 정확도로 측정한다는 것은 대단히 어려운 일이다. 따라서 인덕턱스의 표준을 설정하고 이에 대한 표준 공급을 가능케하기 위해서 막스웰 ―윈 브릿지 시스템을 개발하였다. 브릿지 시스템의 성능을 분석한 결과, 현재 ±200ppm의 정확도로 인덕턴스의 측정이 가능케 되었다.

A primary standard of ac current at low frequency is derived from the standard of do current by ac-do transfer instrument. A set of 15 thermal current converters(TCCs) have been constructed as the primary current standards from 5 mA to 20 A at the frequency range of 10 Hz to 100 kHz. It is evaluated that the uncertainties for the maintenance and dissemination of ac current standard are less than 52 ppm up to 20 mA and 20 kHz, 60 ppm up to 100 mA and 20 kHz, and rising to 200 ppm at higher currents and frequencies.
