A 38-year old male patient visited our hospital because of decreased visual acuity. Brain magnetic resonance(MR) images revealed a 4.7×4.9×3.7 cm sized lobulated cystic mass which was well enhanced in olfactory groove. The patient underwent left subfrontal approach and total tumor removal was done. Pathology revealed neurilemmoma and postoperative magnetic resonance images showed no residual mass.

Objectives : To minimize the retraction of the cerebellum and access the feeding artery directly, we used the occipital transtentorial approach for the anterosuperior cerebellar tumors. Here, we describe the surgical technique and the advantage of occipital transtentorial approach for anterosuperior cerebellar tumors. Methods : From January 1999 to December 2007, we performed the occipital transtentorial approach for 3 patients with infratentorial tumors: one cerebellar hemangioblastoma, one metastatic cerebellar tumor, and one transtentorial meningioma. All tumors were located at anterosuperior cerebellum. Digital subtraction angiography was performed to hemangioblastoma patient. We routinely checked visual acuity and visual field postoperatively. Results : All tumors were removed totally. One patient had transtentoiral meningioma showed transient hemianopsia postoperatively but improved spontaneously. There was no severe morbidity and mortality. Conclusions : Despite of the limited experience, occipital transtentorial approach is a useful surgical strategy for the removal of tumors located at the anterosuperior cerebellar tumors. To prevent the neurologic complication, excessive occipital lobe retraction should be avoided.

영상 데이타베이스 시스템의 구축을 위하여 중요한 고려사항은 방대한 영상자료를 어떻게 효율적으로 표현하고 영상자료간의 유사성(similarity)을 어떠한 방법으로 정의할 것인가 하는 문제이다. 본 논문에서는 영상을 효율적으로 압축시키면서 유사성 척도를 이용할 수 있는 계층적 하이퍼큐브를 물체를 정규화시킨 후 규칙적 방법으로 생성한다. 이와 같이 생성된 계층적 하이퍼큐브간의 유사성 측정은 트리의 각 레벨에서의 형태를 비교함으로써 이루어진다. The main considerations in desinging image database system are how to effectively represent large image data and how to define similarities among various image data. This paper suggests a method for constructing normalized hierachical hypercube with shape information through regular decomposition and MER(Minimum Enclosing Rectangle). Also this paper provides a similarity measure which can be derived from the constructed hierachical hypercube.

본 논문에서는 유해 물질에 인간보다 더욱 민감하게 반응하는 어류의 움직임을 분석하여 수질의 상태를 감시하는 시스템에 대하여 기술한다. 자동수질감시 시스템 (Water Quality Inspection System, WQIS) 은 CCD 카메라를 이용하여 컬러 영상을 획득하고, 획득된 영상에서 어류들의 영역을 분할한 다음, 몇 개의 이전 프레임과 현재 프레임에서 얻어진 각각의 어류들의 행동 패턴을 분석하여 수질의 오염을 판단한다. 본 논문에서는 어류 행동 패턴을 반영하는 다섯 가지 유형의 특징을 정의하였다: 부유성(floatness), 회피성(fledness), 확산성(scatterness), 이동성(mobility). 이와 같은 어류의 행동 패턴을 반영하는 특징들을 이용하여 퍼지 추론을 수행하고 그 결과에 따라서 현재 유해물질이 유입되고 있는지 여부를 판단한다. 본 논문에 기술되는 WQIS은 호수 관리, 폐수 관리, 하천 관리 등과 같은 분야에 적용되어 오염물질의 유입과 같은 환경사고를 사전에 예방하는데 사용될 수 있으리라 본다. This paper describes a monitoring system that examines water quality by analyzing behavioral patterns of fishes. The water quality inspection system (WQIS) captures color images of fishes with a CCD camera, extracts out fish regions from the images, and determines water quality by analysizing motion characteristics of fishes in consecutive frames. We define four types of measures that reflect behavioral patterns of fishes: floatness, fledness, scatterness and mobility. These measures are utilized when the system performs fuzzy inference to induce the conclusion about water quality. We believe that the proposed system can be a solution for securing clean water.

This is a report of a case of congenital esophageal hiatus hernia, occurring in a younger child at the age of one year and two months. The child was suffered from vomiting (intermittently coffee-ground vomitus or blood-flecked vomitus), coughing, and high fever for about 3 months.Diagnosis was confirmed by the radiologic barium study of the gastrointestinal tracts. The herniated organs were entire stomach and a part of the transverse colon. They were located in the right chest. The etiologic pathology was mainly congenital developmental defect of the musculature of the diaphragm, forming the posterior margin of the esophgeal hiatus, and additionally slight shorted esophagus. After reduction of herniated organs back to the abdominal cavity through abdominal approach, herniorrhaphy was performed through transthoracic approach with modified Allison's procedure. At the same time, any associated anomalies, such as hypertrophic pyloric stenosis, were not seen. Postoperative course was uneventful.

백혈병 환아의 acid polyribonucleotide hydrolase 활성도에 관한 연구

The present study was to evaluate whether activities of serum acid polyribonucleotide hydrolases could be used for diagnositc and therapeutic markers for leukemia. Activities of acid polyribonucleotide hydrolases using polycytidylate (poly C), polyuridylate (poly U), polyadenylate (poly A), polyguanylate (poly G), and RNA as substrate were measured in serum of patients with acute lymphocytic leukemia (ALL) and muelogenous leukemia (AML) before and after combined chemotherapy. DEAE-cellulose column chromatographical analyses for acid polyribonucleotide hydrolases in leukemic serum were carried out to find out the enzymes specific to leukemia. 1. Of acid polyribonucleotide hydrolases studied, the activities of poly C, poly U and RNA hydrolases were significantly increased in serum of both ALL and AML and the positive rates of these enzyme activities were high enough to be used as diagnositic markers. The degree of increment in the activity and the positive rate of the enzyme activity exhibited the highest value for AML with acid poly C hydrolase. 2. In 6 cases out of 9 cases of ALL studied in the present work, the activity of acid poly C hydrolase was decreased toward the normal control value following the intensive chemotherapeutic measures against ALL. 3. A DEAE-cellulose column chromatographic analyses showed that acid poly C, poly U and RNA hydrolases in serum of leukemia were separated into 3 to 4 peaks, respectively, of which peak IV acid poly U hydrolase appeared to be specific to AML. The results indicated that acid poly C hydrolase activity was significantly increased in serum of both ALL and AML and that the serum enzyme could be used as a diagnositic marker for both ALL and AML and a therapeutic marker for ALL. Also observed was the presence of acid polyribonucleotide hydrolases in multiple form in leukemic serum and suggested was the appearance of a poly U hydrolase specific to AML.
