The purpose of this study is to critically review the repair works of Seokguram architecture and to search for its original form and space. Seokguram"s architectural form has been transformed throughout three repair works. The first transformation occurred during the repair work of the Colonial Government in 1913-1915, and the second occurred during the repair work of the Colonial Government in 1920-1923. The repair work done by the Korean Government in 1961-1964 also caused a severe change in the architectural form and space of Seokguram architecture. The more the repair work was added to Seokguram, the more its original form flew away like a mirage. Through the three repair works, the spatial composition of Seokguram changed in the following directions: from ((front chamber + passageway) + main chamber) to (front chamber + (passageway + main chamber)) through the second repair work, from (front chamber + (passageway + main chamber)) to (front chamber + passageway + main chamber) through the last repair work. Although the compositional space hierarchy of Seokguram was maintained during the first repair work, the architectural form based on the dry method was changed to the form based on the wet method. The Korean government"s repair work was a tragedy for the "Seokguram conservation project" that the people who led the conservation process misunderstood the architectural nature of Seokguram.

The purpose of this study is to reconstruct the wooden frame structure of Buddhist temple, Kumdang in Youngamsaji which assumed to be built in the 9th century of Unified Silla Dynasty. The remaining site of Kumdang in Youngamsaji is investigated thoroughly with a particular attention to bay size and column distribution. The five ancient Buddhist temples which were built in the same period also have the same frame type as Youngamsaji Kumdang. These five ancient Buddhist temples and Kumdang in Youngamsaji are meticulously investigated in terms of their bay sizes and measuring modules. The framework schema is devised as a conceptual tool to conjecture wooden frame structures of Buddhist temple. A theoretical differentiation between frame type and frame structure is attempted to formulated a wooden frame structure as a stepping-stone for the reconstruction of traditional wooden building. The wooden frame structure of 9C Kumdang in Youngamsaji mainly follows the oldest Korean wooden pavilion, Muryangsujeon in Busuk temple, with a hip and gable roof. The wooden frame structure of 9C Kumdang in Youngamsaji is reconstructed through 3D computer modeling to such an extent that every wooden components of the structure can be 3D printed. The reconstruction also takes reference from the Cai-Fen system in Yingzao Fashi.

The purpose of this research is firstly to derive regular sizes of average dwellings in Korea and to examine minimum living standards in light of those regular dwellings in order to meet future housing requirements of low income households. Two plan types of unit floor area 60 $m^2$ and 85 $m^2$ have become prevalent and ubiquitous so as to reflect the basic requirements of ordinary living standards. Thus, dimensional characteristics of each space in those two plan types is thoroughly investigated in this research. The background of regular plans and their popularized process is first reviewed and the 120 cases of apartment units which were constructed between 2000 and 2007, are selected from those three regional groups and surveyed in detail. The area, depth, width and proportion of each space of unit plans are compared and analyzed in various aspects. As a result, proper space sizes and standards for low income households are reviewed and compared. The regional difference of space dimensions is not significant as expected but area and size characteristics of each space is very much regularized and obvious. And it is argued that those dimensional characteristics should convey the social and cultural values of Korean housing. The average dimensions of each spaces of surveyed apartment unit turns out to be much closer to guidable living standards rather than minimum living standards. Thus, it is very probable that the present guidable living standards could be upgraded to become the future minimum living standards soon.

The purpose of this study is to find framework schema of early J usimpo-style Buddhist halls (Geungnakjeon Hall of Bongjeongsa Temple, Muryangsujeon Hall of Buseoksa Temple, and Daeungjeon Hall of Sudeoksa Temple). Though the halls are known as built in the late Goryeo Period, they show the influence of the architectural style of the early Unified Silla Period. To find the adopted modules and proportions of these halls, this study conceived a schematic diagram based on the whole frame structure taking reference from the Cai-Fen system in Yingzao Fashi. In these three halls, the heights of each cross-beam (Dori) are made up by the layers of member and member units. This study computes the values of Cai, Zhi, and Fen which can apply to both the section and the plan. The vertical section structure is determined by combining the standard member heights (Cai) and the standard unit heights (CaiZhi). The bays of columns are made by multiples of the standard member width (Fen).
