A 16yearold female mixed dog was submitted for examination at the pathology division of national veterinary research and quarantine service(NVRQS). Grossly, white or grayish spherical, multinodular, firm to friable masses were present in the tibiofibula to the pharenge area of the right limb, and dysphagia, breathing difficulties and tachypnea were shown. Varioussized white or grayish black masses were scattered in lungs and diaphragm and one mass was observed in the trachea and in the jejunum, respectively. Histopathologically, the neoplastic cells were composed of polygonal or spindle shaped cells with various sized round to oval nuclei and abundant cytoplasm. These cells formed lobules or nests separated by fine connective tissue and contained little amount of melanin pigments. Melanin pigments were stained dark gray or black with FontanaMasson method. Melanosomes were also ultrastructurally demonstrable by electron microscopy. Based on above results, the present case was diagnosed as canine malignant melanoma originating from the lower limb and digit.
Vol.44 No.2
Trichinella spiralis is one of the important zoonotic parasites with a wide variety of vertebrates hosts in nature. The purpose of this study were to analyze ESP(Excretory-Secretory Protein) antigen, to evaluate ELISA for the serological diagnosis of Trichinosis, and to survey T. spiralis infection in finishing pigs using the pepsin digestion method and ELISA in Korea. In the analysis of ESP antigen by SDS-PAGE and Western blot, 4 major bands (70, 55, 52.6, and 49 kDa) were revealed from the ESP antigen. Predilection sites of T. spiralis were the diaphragm, the tongue, masseter muscles, intercostal muscle, and hindlimb in orders in the experimentally infected rats. Sera from 581 swine were tested by ELISA with ESP antigen. The 54 (9.3%) sera were suspected as positive reactors, however, these 54 sera were determined as false positives by the use of Western blotting. This study demonstrated that the ELISA was not suitable for the examination of T. spiralis in pork. The diaphragm muscle samples of 251 finishing pigs were tested by the method of pepsin-digestion for the presence of Trichinella larvae, however, T. spiralis was not detected from the samples. We could not find out T. spiralis infection in pig in Korea pork.
Canine hemangiopericytoma in a Golden Retriever: A case report
김하영,우계형,황범태,박정원,최정업 한국동물위생학회 2007 韓國家畜衛生學會誌 Vol.30 No.4
A 7yearold intact female Golden Retriever was presented for examination. The dog had large irregular subcutaneous masses in the abdomen which were ruptured or encapsulated. Those were removed surgically. Histopathologically, the masses consisted of spindle cells that often formed distinct whorls around a central capillary. Immunohistochemical anaylsis revealed that the neoplastic cells were strong diffuse cytoplasmic immunolabelling for vimentin and focal immunoreactivity for smooth muscle actin, whereas not immunoreactive for cytokeratin, desmin, von Willebrand factor, glial fibrillary acidic protein, or S100. The neoplastic cells ultrastructurally had processes attached by desmosomelike structures, swollen mitochondria and dilated rough endoplasmic reticulum. Based on the above results, this case was diagnosed as a canine hemangiopericytoma in the abdominal subcutis of a Golden Retriever.
Eyelid Squamous Cell Carcinoma in a Horse in Jeju
김재훈,우계형 한국임상수의학회 2013 한국임상수의학회지 Vol.30 No.5
An 8-year-old, female, mixed Thoroughbred horse was presented for the evaluation of the left upper eyelid mass with ocular discharge during 4 months. After unilateral surgery, excised eyelid mass and left eye were submitted for diagnosis. Grossly, the removed mass was 6 × 7 × 2 cm in size and dome shape with rough irregular surface. On the cut surface, mass was firm and yellowish white in color. Histopathologically, severely proliferated stratified squamous epithelia were heavily invaginated into dermis, and then formed rete ridge or numerous squamous islands. These neoplastic islands were composed of multiple layers of prickle cells with intercellular bridge and central laminated keratin pearls or necrotic cellular debris. Based on the above results, this case was diagnosed as squamous cell carcinoma in upper eyelid of horse.
