Purpose: To report a case of hemorrhagic lymphangiectasia treated with surgical excision and confirmed by pathologic examination. Case summary: A 21-year-old man presented with spontaneous hyperemia of his right eye of 1 week duration. The patient had a history of tuberculous retinal vasculitis and uveitis 1 year prior, but there was no active lesion during regular follow- up. There was no history of trauma, visual disturbance, diplopia, ocular pain, or any sign of systemic disease. Slit lamp examination showed tortuous dilatation of blood-filled lymphatic vessels on temporal conjunctiva of the right eye. The lesion did not change during the 4 weeks of follow-up and local excision biopsy was made for final diagnosis and treatment. Pathologic examinations revealed thin-walled lymphatic vessels with localized dilatation which contained blood in the lumen consistent with hemorrhagic lymphangiectasia. There was no sign of recurrence until 2 months after the operation. Conclusions: Hemorrhagic lymphangiectasia should be considered in patients with recurrent or longstanding localized tortuous subconjunctival hemorrhage. J Korean Ophthalmol Soc 2012;53(9):1330-1333

Serum Concentration of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor after Bilateral Intravitreal Injection of Bevacizumab

Purpose: This study compared serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) concentration between patientsgiven the bilateral and unilateral intravitreal injections of bevacizumab. Methods: In a prospective manner, serum VEGF levels in treatment-naive patients with age-related macular degenerationwho underwent bilateral or unilateral intravitreal injections of bevacizumab were investigated. Afterinformed consent, peripheral blood was collected from in patients who underwent bilateral or unilateral intravitrealinjection of bevacizumab before and 1 month after the injection. Serum VEGF levels were measured byenzyme-linked immunosorbent assay after centrifugation. In addition, best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) andcentral retinal thickness (CRT) before and 1 month after the injection were compared between each group. Results: Twenty patients received bilateral injections (40 eyes) and 20 patients received unilateral injections. The VEGF concentrations (pg/mL) before the bilateral injection were 235.75 ± 183.16 and 252.53 ± 233.52 forthe unilateral injection. They were significantly reduced to 153.88 ± 113.26 and 189.42 ± 251.72 after 1 month,respectively (p = 0.037 and 0.019), which are showing no significant difference between the two groups (p =0.771). And there were no significant intergroup difference in pre- and postoperative BCVA and CRT. Conclusions: The bilateral simultaneous intravitreal injection of bevacizumab did not differ greatly from unilateralintravitreal injection in the influence on serum VEGF levels and the therapeutic outcome.

Nanosheet FETs에서의 효과적인 전열어닐링 수행을 위한 기계적 안정성에 대한 연구

Reliability of CMOS has been severed under aggressive device scaling. Conventional technologies such as lightly doped drain (LDD) and forming gas annealing (FGA) have been applied for better device reliability, but further advances are modest. Alternatively, electro-thermal annealing (ETA) which utilizes Joule heat produced by electrodes in a MOSFET, has been newly introduced for gate dielectric curing. However, concerns about mechanical stability during the electro-thermal annealing, have not been discussed, yet. In this context, this paper demonstrates the mechanical stability of nanosheet FET during the electro-thermal annealing. The effect of mechanical stresses during the electro-thermal annealing was investigated with respect to device design parameters.

The size of semiconductor devices has been scaled down to improve packing density and output performance. However, there is uncontrollable spreading of the dopants that comprise the well, punch-stop, and channel-stop when using hightemperature annealing processes, such as rapid thermal annealing (RTA). In this context, low-temperature deuterium annealing (LTDA) performed at a low temperature of 300℃ is proposed to reduce the thermal budget during CMOS fabrication. The LTDA effectively eliminates the interface trap in the gate dielectric layer, thereby improving the electrical characteristics of devices, such as threshold voltage (VTH), subthreshold swing (SS), on-state current (ION), and off-state current (IOFF). Moreover, the LTDA is perfectly compatible with CMOS processes.

정상 신생아의 안와부 계측

Purpose: To establish a database of the anthropometric measurements of soft-tissue orbits in Korean newborns. Methods: A total of 69 normal term newborns (39 males, 30 females) in the first 48 hours after delivery, were included in the present study. Anthropometric measurements of soft-tissue orbits were taken with vernier calipers by one of the authors. With eyes closed, horizontal eyelid fissure length (HFL), lower lid height (LLH), upper lid height (ULH), intercanthal distance (ICD), and inter-outercanthal distance (IOCD) were measured and with eyes opened with a speculum, the interpupillary distance (IPD) was measured. Results: There was no significant difference between either sex or between the right and left eyes. HFL was 20.8 ± 1.2 mm, LLH and ULH were 11.1 ± 2.3 and 16.5 ± 2.5 mm, respectively; ICD, IPD, and IOCD were 22.9 ± 2.1 mm, 39.8 ± 3.0 mm, and 65.3 ± 5.8 mm, respectively. Conclusions: Anthropometric measurements of normal Korean newborns’ soft-tissue orbits in the present study can be used as basic data for the proper evaluation and growth of soft-tissue orbits. Improvement of Device Reliability and Variability Using High Pressure Deuterium Annealing

Higher device reliability and lower device-to-device variability are needed to improve the density and yield of integrated circuits. A high pressure deuterium annealing (HPDA) process is proposed for this purpose. Gate-enclosed n-MOSFETs were fabricated on silicon substrate as test vehicles. Then, secondary ion mass spectrometry was performed to verify deuterium absorption. After that, device parameters such as gate leakage, threshold voltage, and subthreshold swing were measured, and the values before and after the HPDA process were compared. The results confi rmed device reliability as well as deviceto-device variability were improved by the proposed HPDA process.

The synergistic infection of syphilis and HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus) infection is a re-emerging problem of global health after AIDS (Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) era. Neglected treatment of syphilis in HIV-positive patients may lead to increased chance of HIV transmission in community and neglected screening of HIV in syphilis patients may delay diagnosis of HIV which now become a controllable chronic diseases. HIV-positive persons with syphilis co-infection are more likely to have neurologic complications and a higher rate of treatment failure with currently recommended regimens. And the neurologic manifestations of syphilis in HIV patients tend to occur earlier periods of HIV infection. But neuropsyphilis in HIV patients is still poorly understood, despite > 2 decades of clinical experiences.

정상 신생아의 안와부 계측

목적: 한국인의 정상 신생아를 대상으로 안와부 계측을 시행하여 정상 신생아의 안와부의 정상치를 알아보고자 하였다. 대상과 방법: 38주에서 42주 사이에 태어난 69명(남아: 39명, 여아: 30명)의 정상 신생아를 대상으로 출생 후 48시간 이내에 안와부를 계측하였다. 한 명의 검사자가 버니어 캘리퍼를 사용하여 눈을 감은 상태에서 눈꺼풀틈새의 길이, 상안검연부터 눈썹하연 및 눈썹상연까지의 최대 거리, 내안각 사이거리, 외안각 사이거리를 측정하였고, 개검기로 눈을 벌린 후 동공간 거리를 측정하였다. 결과: 정상 신생아의 안와부 계측치는 성별, 양안간에는 통계적으로 유의한 차이는 보이지 않았다. 눈꺼풀틈새길이는 20.81 ± 1.17mm, 상안검연부터 눈썹하연 및 눈썹상연까지의 길이는 11.14 ± 2.33 및 16.51 ± 2.45 mm였으며, 내안각 사이거리, 동공간거리, 외안각 사이거리는 각각 22.93 ± 2.05 mm, 39.76 ± 3.01 mm, 65.31 ± 5.84 mm로 측정되었다. 결론: 본 연구에서 시행한 정상 신생아의 안와부 계측은 안와부에 대한 적절한 평가를 가능하게 하는 기초자료가 되며, 또한 성장에 대한 기준자료로서 사용될 수 있을 것이다. 고압 중수소 열처리에 의한 MOSFETs의 특성 개선에 대한 연구

High pressure deuterium (HPD) annealing is an advancing technology for the fabrication of modern semiconductor devices. In this work, gate-enclosed FETs are fabricated on a silicon substrate as test vehicles. After a cycle for the HPD annealing, the device parameters such as threshold voltage (V_TH), subthreshold swing (SS), on-state current (I_ON), off-state current (I_OFF), and gate leakage (I_G) were measured and compared depending on the HPD. The HPD annealing can passivate the dangling bonds at Si-SiO₂ interfaces as well as eliminate the bulk trap in SiO₂. It can be concluded that adding the HPD annealing as a fabrication process is very effective in improving device reliability, performance, and variability.

망막정맥폐쇄 환자에서 유리체강 내 덱사메타손 임플란트삽입술 시행 후 안압 변화

Purpose: To investigate the occurrence and increase in intraocular pressure (IOP) over time in patients with retinal vein occlusion treated with dexamethasone intravitreal implants. Methods: Thirty-two patients who met retreatment eligibility criteria received sequential intravitreal dexamethasone implant insertion for retinal vein occlusion in one eye, and were followed for 36 months (maximum of 10 injections) from February 2011 to March 2017. Patients without follow-up data at each investigation time point were excluded. Results: An IOP increase ≥ 10 mmHg from baseline or an IOP ≥ 25 mmHg occurred in 18.8% of the patients. IOP-lowering medications were used in these patients. The first IOP elevation occurred with a mean of 5.9 months after the first intravitreal dexamethasone implant insertion in the IOP elevation group, and with a mean of 1.5 months after previous intravitreal dexamethasone implant insertion in each IOP elevation event. No patients required laser or incisional glaucoma surgery during the study period. Conclusions: An increase in IOP occurred in the early period after intravitreal dexamethasone implant insertion, and did not occur in sequential insertion. Although an increase in IOP was a significant side effect of intravitreal dexamethasone implant insertion, the IOP could be controlled with careful observation and use of preliminary and therapeutic anti-ocular hypertensive agents. 목적: 망막정맥폐쇄로 유리체강 내 덱사메타손 삽입술을 시행한 환자에서 안압 상승과 그 경과에 대해 알아보고자 한다. 대상과 방법: 2011년 2월부터 2017년 3월까지 망막정맥폐쇄로 인한 황반부종으로 유리체강 내 덱사메타손 삽입술을 시행한 환자 중 본 연구에서 설정한 기준에 부합하고 3년 이상 경과관찰이 가능했던 32명(32안)을 대상으로 의무기록을 이용한 후향적 연구를 시행하였다. 결과: 유리체강 내 덱사메타손 삽입술 후 안압이 25 mmHg 이상으로 상승하거나 기존 안압에서 10 mmHg 이상 상승한 환자는 6명(18.8%)이었고, 안압 상승군에서 유리체강 내 덱사메타손 삽입술 후 안압이 상승한 시기는 평균적으로 첫 시술 후 5.9개월이었으며 각각의 안압 상승 사건에서 안압 상승 직전 유리체강 내 덱사메타손 삽입술 시행 후 평균 1.5개월 후였다. 안압이 상승한 환자는 만니톨 정맥내 주사와 안압 하강 안약으로 안압이 조절되었으며 녹내장수술이나 레이저가 필요한 환자는 없었다. 결론: 안압 상승은 유리체강 내 덱사메타손 임플란트삽입술 시행 후 나타나는 중요한 합병증으로 시술 시행 후 초기에 나타난다. 안압상승의 과거력이 있더라도 반복적으로 꼭 재현되는 것은 아니며, 주의깊은 관찰과 예방적, 치료적 안압 하강 제제의 사용으로 이를관리할 수 있었다.
