There is an increasing trend in the automotive industry towards integrating sophisticated features with vehicle’s AVN. As more vehicles become equipped with advanced electronic systems, more consideration is needed with safety issues. This paper presents widely used Android based IVI’s vulnerability assessment, through a reverse engineering on the processes of the OS and security framework. In particular, we focus on researching IVI’s firmware to find any loophole or vulnerabilities in security, and to further test the possibilities on how a compromised IVI can affect vehicle’s functionality.
