A main feature of the surf zone is the wave dissipation due to the turbulence generated by wave breaking. Wave exergy dissipation due to wave breaking has effect on the hydraulic phenomena such as wave heights, radiation stress, variation of mean water level and longhore currents etc. in the surf zone. Therefore models for the wave energy dissipation are of importance in investigating the hydraulic phenomena in the surf zone. In the paper, effects of wave energy dissipation due to turbulence on the hydraulic phenomena are investigated. At frist, some models among the many dissipation models are collected and examined. Using these models with proper breaking criterion and re-estimated radiation stresses, the distribution of wave heights, variation of mean water level and longshore currents are computed. The computed results are compared with experimental data to assess the effects of energy dissipation rate on the hydraulic phenomena in the surf zone.
