Chronic osteomyelitis, wheter hematogenous, posttraumatic or postoperative, continues to be a therapeutic challenge yet. Modern treatment for chronic osteomyelitis includes as indispensable policy of radical removal of infected and necrotic tissues. Gentamycine contained in beads of polymethylmethacylate has been shown capable of being released for a long time in concentration sufficiently high to control most pathogens. Gentamycine is a single active agent that maintains activity even after being exposed to the high temperature resulting from PMMA hardening process. Thus while maintains antibiotic concentration, it might be possible to eliminate all bacteria with a suitable bactericidal agent in an adequate dose. This local treatment has the advantage of easy removal after an adequate therapeutic period and no effects on bone mechanics.

This study was conducted to investigate the residue amount of harmful materials on the 153 commercial medical herbs in Gwangju area. It was performed using the GC-ECD, GC-NPD, GC-MSD and the LC-UVD,LC-FLD, LC-MSD to analyze 200 pesticides. The heavy metals were determined using a Mercury analyzer and AAS. The sulfur dioxides were analyzed by modified Monnier-Williams method. The residual pesticides were detected in 7samples, and were over MRLs (Maximum Risk Levels) in 2 samples (1.3%). The mean values of heavy metal contents (mg/kg) were Pb, 0.570; Cd, 0.081; As, 0.082; Hg, 0.0093. The measured values of Pb, As, Hg showed within MRLs. The excess samples of MRLs were 3 samples (changchul 2, cheongung 1) on Cd. The sulfur dioxides were over MRLs in 7 samples (4.6%), hwanggi and gugija. These results will be used to establish on the regulation of commercial medical herbs in Gwangju area.

pesticides commonly used in perilla leaf were subjected to a field residue trial to ensure safetyof terminal residues in the harvest. The residual paterns of three pesticides, which were dimethomorph, indoxacarband procymidone were examined after applying with the recommended and double dose and their DT50 were calcu-lated. Also degradation patterns of pesticides at storage 4oC were compared to those at 20oC, and removal rates ofprocymidone were 2.91~3.1, 2.53~3.14 and 2.62~2.92 days, respectively. During the storage period, the degradationpatterns were apeared more obviously at 20oC than 4oC. Removal rates of dimethomorph, indoxacarb and procymi-done were 51.3~73.3%, 74.1~91.3% and 57.9~81.6% by various washing methods.

It was performed using the GC-ECD, GC-NPD, GCMSD and the LC-UVD, LC-FLD, LC-MSD to analyze 200 pesticides. The heavy metals were determined using a Mercury analyzer and AAS. Three benzimidazole pesticides commonly used in korean lettuce were subjected to a field residue trial to ensure safety of terminal residue in the harvest. The residual patterns of three benzimidazole pesticides, which were carbendazim, benomyl and thiophanate-methyl were examined after applying with the recommended dose in two types of korean lettuce (Chima and Chuckmeon) and their DT50 were calculated. In Chima lettuce, biological half-lives of carbendazim, benomyl and thiophanate-methyl were 2.56, 1.37 and 2.54 days, respectively and their required time under MRL(5.0 mg/kg as carbendazim) were 4.5, 2.2 and 1.0days. In Chuckmeon lettuce, biological half-lives of them were 3.41, 1.70 and 4.20 days, respectively and their required time under MRL were 5.4, 1.9 and 0.5days.
