Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand the caregiving experience of elderly participating in the project of elderly care by elderly. Methods: Data accrued from November 2019 to April 2020 through individual in-depth interviews with eight elderly service providers who have worked at the general senior welfare center from 2 to 6 years. Transcribed data were analyzed using the Colaizzi’s phenomenological six-step method. Results: Four categories emerged in this study: opportunity to serve two ends of the project of elderly care by elderly; the weight of difficult care for elderly; relationship sublimated to more than care; and the harmony of life with old age maturity. Conclusion: Based on the participants elderly care experience, efforts are necessary to develop and implement effective strategies for improving workforce allocation, management, education, and awareness of elderly care by elderly. In addition, this study suggests increasing the working capacity of elderly care and the system for elderly care in the community. Furthermore, this study offers important evidence for managing elderly care workers and establishing educational infrastructure.

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to understand and describe the experiences of urinary incontinence in elderly women in urban areas. Methods: Data were collected through individual in-depth interviews of 8 elderly women with urinary incontinence in urban areas from September 2020 to March 2021. The transcribed data were analyzed using Colaizzi s phenomenological six-step method. Results: Four theme clusters emerged: Urinary incontinence as an uninvited visitor in old age; The heavy daily pain urinary incontinence causes; Self-help efforts to cope with urinary incontinence and A mind to hold on to the present condition so as not to deteriorate. Conclusion: This study provided an in-depth understanding of elderly women’s experiences with urinary incontinence in urban areas. Based on the results of this study, efforts should be made to develop and provide emotional and psychological support and prevention education programs that can adequately support elderly women with urinary incontinence in urban areas.

Purpose: This study aimed to explore young adult donors’ experiences of living donor liver transplantation. Methods: A phenomenological research method was used. The participants were two women and six men. Data were collected through individual in-depth interviews from November 25th, 2019 to June 10th, 2020 and analyzed using Colaizzi’s phenomenological method. Results: Five theme clusters extracted from the young adult donors’ experiences were painful decision of a liver donation, the agony of both mind and body that overpowers youth, the bitter and bare face of reality that a young donor encounters, feeling the power of love that fills up the space of the organ removed, and liver donation becoming priming water for maturity. Conclusion: The results of this study provide a deeper understanding of the lives of young adult donors who have experienced unexpected difficulties as well as self growth from the donation. It is expected that the results can be of use for developing and applying customized nursing interventions for management before and after liver donation among young adult donors.
여성노인 암 환자의 질병 체험에 관한 해석학적 현상학적 연구

Purpose: The purpose of the study was to understand the lived experience of illness among older females with cancer in South Korea. Methods: Data were collected from May to December of 2019 through individual in-depth interviews with eight older females with cancer who have undergone thorough cancer diagnosis and treatments. Transcribed data were analyzed using the hermeneutic phenomenological method developed by van Manen. Results: Six essential themes emerged: old body physically devastated through the fight against cancer; tug of war for symbiosis between cancer and the old body; home that does not provide comfort anymore; twilight years with no regrets even with cancer; womanhood to keep for a lifetime even in old age; and putting pieces together of the relationships around oneself. Conclusion: Based on the participants’ illness experience, efforts need to be made to develop and implement effective strategies to improve nurses’ understanding of the life experiences of illness among older females with cancer in the Korean socio-cultural context, and to provide patient and family-centered nursing interventions that reflect patients’ age and gender characteristics.
간호학과 학생의 진로준비행동 영향요인: 체계적 문헌고찰 및 메타분석

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to systematically review and conduct meta-analysis on factors affecting career preparation behavior of Korean nursing students. Methods: Related articles published in Korean and English were collected based on search terms and converted into a numerical database. Data extraction, quality assessment and analysis including a systematic review and meta-analysis were completed. Results: The review included 27 studies. There were 25 factors influencing career preparation behavior of Korean nursing students. Factors were categorized into four sub-factors: personal, contextual, cognitive-emotional, and goal-related. In the meta-analysis of 27 articles the total effect size (ESr) was .34. The effect sizes of the four sub-factors were .37 for individual factors, .25 for situation factors, .34 for cognitive and emotional factors, and .41 for target factors. The main factors were .53 for career-related efficacy, .43 for self-leadership, and .43 for career decision level. Conclusion: Nursing students with high career-related efficacy and self-leadership are more likely to demonstrate career preparation behavior. Based on these results, educational institutions for nursing students must improve students’ self-leadership and career effectiveness through education so that they can set career goals.
