Putting expectations on newly-introduced enterprise type rental house for removal of residential anxiety focusing on the rental market and activation of domestic economy through expansion of supply of new rental houses, the government announced full support for deregulation, housing site, funds, tax, infrastructure etc. However, controversy over political effect or effectiveness of the foregoing has continued, and private sector, main agents of supply has raised a variety of problems and limitations. Expansion of substantive supply of enterprise type rental houses and its effect can be expected only when measures and improvement plans to solve problems new stay are prepared considering structural changes in rental market. Thus, this study devised political improvement plans for inducing participation of new stay business operators for stable supply and continued growth of housing rental market. For the aforementioned, this study investigated recognition about new stay and behavioral type of decision for participation through a survey targeting construction companies and housing rental business operators who are the participatory agents for supply and operation of new stay.

Background/Aims: It has been expected that chronic expression of cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) and inducible nitric oxide synthase(Inos) may play an important role in gastric carcinogenesis. The purpose of our study was to investigate the role of COX-2 and Inos Mrna expression in gastric carcinogenesis and the correlation between the expression of COX-2 and Inos Mrna in patients with gastric cancer. Methods: Twenty-three gastric carcinoma tissue specimens and their adjacent normal mucosa specimens were obtained from surgical resection. The expression of COX-2 and Inos Mrna were examined by comparative reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction. Results: COX-2 and Inos Mrna were expressed significantly higher in gastric cancer tissues than in adjacent normal tissues. There was a significant correlation between the level of COX-2 and Inos Mrna in carcinoma tissues. There was no significant correlation between the level of COX-2 or Inos Mrna expression and clinicopathological parameters such as tumor size, depth of invasion, differentiation, Laurens classification, lymph node metastasis, perineural and vascular invasion in these patients. Conclusions: The expression of COX-2 and Inos may be one of the factors that contribute to the early stage of gastric carcinogenesis. (Korean J Gastroenterol 2001;38:161-168)

Background/Aims: Prognostic factors related to the postoperative survival of patients with peripheral cholangiocarcinoma (PCC) are not well documented. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical and pathologic factors that might influence the postoperative survival of patients with PCC. Methods: Twenty-nine patients with PCC underwent laparotomy between September 1994 and September 1999. Fourteen clinicopathologic factors influencing postoperative survival were analyzed in nineteen patients who underwent hepatic resection (resection group). Ten patients had unresectable advanced tumor (unresectable group). Results: In the resection group, the overall 1-, 2-, and 3-year survival rate was 51.4%, 45.0%, and 28.1%, respectively (median survival of 17.6 months). The median survival in the unresectable group was 4.1 months and no patient lived longer than 1 year. In univariate survival analysis, tumor size and perineural invasion were correlated significantly with overall survival. The survival of patients who underwent resection with positive margin was significantly longer than that of the unresectable group. Conclusions: An aggressive surgical approach provides the best chance for long-term survival of patients with PCC. Tumor size and perineural invasion may be considered as prognostic factors for postoperative survival, but a large, long-term study is needed.
