In this paper, an implantable analog front-end integrated circuit (AFE IC) for electrocorticography (ECoG) recording incorporating a low-noise neural amplifier (LNA) and successive approximation register analog-to-digital converter (SAR ADC) is presented. The AC-coupled capacitive-feedback LNA is designed using an ultra low-power operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) with inverter-stacking, gain-boosting, and floating body techniques. The LNA operates at 1-V supply and achieves 1.27 of noise efficiency factor with 40 dB of voltage gain, 520 Hz bandwidth, 6.04 μVrms of integrated input referred noise and 15.5 nW power consumption. The designed SAR ADC uses a VCM-based monotonic capacitor switching scheme saving 97.66 % of switching power while consuming a quarter of CDAC area compared to conventional SAR ADC. The proposed EVEN/ODD technique using new dynamic logic block architecture reduces the complexity of the digital blocks and minimizes the digital power consumption and logic delay. In addition, asynchronous clock and non-binary weight redundant capacitor techniques are used to improve the ADC power efficiency and linearity. The designed SAR ADC achieves 61.87 dB SNDR, 78.78 dB SFDR, 9.985 bit ENOB, FoM of 0.825 fJ/conversion-step while consuming 83.6 nW power consumption at 0.5-V supply voltage and 100 kS/s sampling rate. The ECoG recording AFE IC designed using 65-nm CMOS process and occupies 0.083 mm² of chip area. 본 논문에서는 electrocorticography (ECoG) 뇌신호 기록을 위한 저잡음 증폭기와 successive approximation register 아날로그-디지털 변환기 (SAR ADC)를 포함하는 체내 이식용 아날로그 프론트-엔드 집적 회로 (AFE IC)를 설계하였다. Inverter-stacking, 이득 boosting, 그리고 floating body 기법을 적용한 초저전력 연산증폭기를 기반으로 설계된 AC-coupled capacitive-feedback 저잡음 증폭기는 1-V 전원 전압에서 동작하여 40 dB의 이득과 520 Hz의 대역폭, 6.04 μVrms의 입력 참조 잡음, 15.5 nW의 전력 소비로 1.27의 noise efficiency factor 성능을 달성한다. 설계된 SAR ADC는 VCM 기반 monotonic capacitor switching scheme을 사용하여 기존의 기본 SAR ADC에 비해 1/4의 CDAC 면적과 함께 97.66 %의 스위칭 전력을 절약한다. 새로운 구조의 dynamic 논리 회로를 이용한 EVEN/ODD 기법이 제안되어 디지털 회로부의 복잡도 개선과 더불어서 전력 소비와 로직 지연이 감소된다. 또한, Asynchronous clock과 non-binary redundant weight capacitor 기법이 적용되어 ADC의 전력 효율과 선형성이 개선된다. 설계된 SAR ADC는 0.5-V의 전원 전압 및 100 kS/s의 sampling rate에서 61.87 dB의 SNDR, 78.78 dB의 SFDR, 9.985 비트 ENOB와 83.6 nW의 전력 소비로 0.825 fJ/conversion-step의 Walden FoM을 달성한다. 65-nm CMOS 공정을 사용하여 설계된 ECoG 신호 기록 AFE IC는 0.083 mm²의 작은 칩 면적을 차지한다.

Jude the Obscure에 나타난 희극적 요소

In any sense Hardy is not a comic writer, considering that his major works are all tragic. However, although the prevalent view of Hardy as a novelist is that of very serious, even pessimistic writer, the rich lode of comedy runs throughout his writing, and even Hardy's presonal and public lives, as well as his private and published writings, demonstrate the abundance of humour. Contemporary and more recent reviewers praised that his use of comedy contributes greatly to the overall success of his long works. Hardy's aim of writing fiction was to show the world as he found it. He saw the world as made up of ironic incongruties. Therefore irony in Hardy's novels is not as tone or texture but as a principle of structure. Jude the Obscure is the bleakest of Hardy's tragic novels, and the irony of fate is the central theme of this novel. It is because Hardy felt the bitter helplessness and despair at certain social absurdities and iniquities. Therefore, Jude is sometimes thought to be unrelieved by humour. But a detailed study of the novel reveals that it has considerable comedy even if it does lack the abundant and spontaneous humour of earlier works. Comic elements in Jude are for the most part ironic and bitter in harmony with the tone of the story and they are rather subservient to a somber vision. The background characters are no longer the rural rustics of earlier novels who show a cheerful humour, but the dwellers of city slums and heavy drinkers. Humour is distorted here and it cannot correct a melancholy disposition nor does it provide an alternative philosophy for consideration by characters and readers. And yet Hardy reveales us that much of the misery man suffers is ultimately remediable by greater social enlightenment, and shows us that his view of life is not negative but positive. It is through these comic elements which lie in the vein of his works that Hardy gives the characters the will to live in apainful world.

Chopped anodic 펄스 제어를 이용한 charge balanced 뇌신경 자극 집적회로

This paper presents a neural stimulator integrated circuit(IC) using chopped pulse waveform for high power efficiency and charge balancing. The proposed IC is designed using 0.18-μm standard CMOS process and consists of electric stimulation circuit and charge balancing circuit. Transistor stacking and dynamic gate biasing technique are used to protect the output current driver and charge balancing circuit from high voltage stress. The proposed system has flexibility to select two types of stimulation waveform according to the situation. A very simple digital logic circuit consisting of a comparator and D-Latch performs safe charge balancing to prevent the accumulation of residual potential on the electrodes. 이 논문에서는 높은 전력 효율과 charge balancing을 위해 chopped 펄스 파형을 이용하는 신경 자극기 집적 회로(IC)를 제시한다. 제안된 IC는 0.18-μm 표준 CMOS 공정을 사용하여 설계되었으며, 전기 자극 회로와 charge balancing 회로로 구성된다. Transistor stacking 및 Dynamic gate biasing 설계 기술이 고전압 스트레스로부터 전류 출력 드라이버와 charge balancing 회로를 보호하기 위해 사용되었다. 제안된 시스템은 상황에 따라 두 가지 자극 파형을 선택할 수 있도록 하여 유연성을 가지며 비교기와 D-Latch로 구성된 매우 간단한 디지털 논리 회로를 통해 안전한 charge balancing을 수행하여 전극의 잔류 전위 축적을 방지한다.

Hardy의소설 Under the Greenwood Tree에 나타난 Comic Elements

Hardy is not a comic writer in a popular sense. However, not only his practice demonstrates abundant comic elements but also his biographies, letters and his human relatioship reveal his keen sense of humour. Unlike most of Hardy's later novels, Under the Greenwood Treen is appealing, high spirited enterainment and shows the purest example of comic plotting, which is constructed along the most convientonal lines of comic development. The plot interweaves a sprightly story of young love with that of the church musician's reluctant yielding to the organ as a new source of accompaniment. At first the puestion of prire seems to be main theme, but the romance of Dick and Fancy is central to the novel. The young couple move through the usual uncertainties,jealousies, spats and impassioned reconciliation with Fancy's father, Geoffrey Day who attempts to thwart the marriage. But the true love of the young couple overcome the obstacles and marry, their bungling antics, fear, and hesitaitons providing ample humour. The tone is sustained humorously by the narrator and the comic background characters. The conclusion resolves the issue of social inequality and the conflict between the old and new; between the simple unreflective, rural life and the sophisticated, speculative, mechanical world of a new order, and results in the young couple's happy ending. In this respect, Under the Greewood Tree belongs to a traditional romantic comedy and shows that Hardy is talented as a comic writer as well. The comic elements in Hardy's works give "will to live" to the world where the whole mankind struggles for existence. Therefore, in a strict sense, Hardy is not a pessemist but a meliorist.

Tess of the d'Urbervilles에 나타난 유머와 아이러니에 관한 연구

The aim of this study is to examine humour and irony in Hardy's novel,Tess of the d'Urbervilles. Hardy is a comic writer,though his major works are all tragic.Although the prevalent view of Hardy as a novelist is that of very serious,even pessimistic writer,the rich lode of comedy runs through his writing,and even private and published writings demonstrate the aboundance of humour.Therefore,many of contemporary and more recent reviewers praise his use of comedy contributing greatli to the overall success of his long works. Hardy's pervasive theme in all his novel is the contrast between appearance and reality.In accordance with what he called his own 'idiosyncratic mode of regard' his works are based largely on a method of showing rather than telling,whereby plot and structure depend to a great extent on varying states of perception.By deliberately exaggerating his subject,Hardy achieves to present a life which aims at an impression of greater verisimilitude than the simple transcription of fact.So,each of Hardy's novels is essentially a way of looking at things in order to reveal man's awkward position in the world and to show that nothing is as it seems and that the world is made up of ironic incongruities .Consequently the irony in Hardy's novels is not of entirely tone or texture but a principle of structure, and the comic elements in Hardy's novels largely results from his use of irony. While Hardy's earlier works show the ingredients of the traditional romantic comedy, his later novels reveal a gradual deepening of the tragic view of life. The late novels do not indicate Hardy's world view in its entirely but reflect the bitter miseries he felt about certain social iniquities, and the ironic or dark satirical tendency emerges more profoundly than from his earlier works. Tess of the d'Urbervilles, one of his tragic novels of all time, contains much functional humour, but of a variety different from that found in his earlier works. Here, Hardy uses the comic elements to control the tone of each phase of the story. The structure of the novel is based essentially on contrast between that she (the heroine) appears to be in the eyes of social law, and what she is of God-given nature. Throughout the novel there is a continual tension between objective and subjective views as the heroine herself is torn between the knowledge of material truth and her own imaginative conception of it. So Tess's story tends to be ironic and tragic. However, Hardy's keen sense of humour makes her tragedy more tolerable for readers. Accordingly Tess of the d'Urbervilles provides us with abundant ironic and bitter humours. Yet Hardy reveals much of the misery man suffers,which is ultimately remediable by greater social enlightenment,and shows us that his view of life is not negative but positive.It is through comic spirits that lie in the vein of his works that Hardy seems to try to make a painful world we live in more livable. Therefore,in a strict sense,Hardy is not a pessimist but a meliorist.
