Nano-sized iron (Ⅲ) oxides nanoparticles have been fabricated by flame aerosol process. The size and the crystalline phase evolution of ferric oxide particles were investigated as a function of flame temperature and particle collection height above the burner. Well crystallized maghemite particles having the average particle size of 20 ㎚ were synthesized at heights ranging from 20 to 35 ㎚ while particles collected at 44 ㎜ and above proved to be hematite and their average particle size was 3-5 ㎚. This kind of the sudden decrease of particle size accompanied by phase transformation has not been reported in literature concerning nanoparticle behaviors in flames. A fundamental study is now in progress in order to determine the origin of this new phenomenon.

Fire resistant cables usually apply to emergency power and fire safety systems, such as fire alarm, sprinkler, smoke ventilation system and so on. And, high performance of fire resistant cables is important to provide the safety environmental sustainability needed to electrical circuits in oil and gas plants. Recently, various fire resistant cables of LS cable & System were developed. This paper presents experimental investigations and results for continuous operation for a certain time under fire explosion condition. To obtain fire and heat resistant material properties of the cable, a specific resistant layer between the metal conductor and the polymer insulation was introduced. The developed fire resistant cables meet the requirement of various safe circuit integrities with the mechanical impact and the water spray condition for application of onshore and offshore plants.
