Side Chain Engineering on Non-Fullerene Acceptor for Organic Solar Cells

Since non-fullerene acceptor (NFA) materials with low optical bandgap appeared, organic solar cells (OSCs) began to show high power conversion efficiencies (PCEs). We designed two derivatives of Y-series NFAs. The two NFAs were synthesized with the n-hexyl side chain on triazole moiety with (BTA-UD-4F) and without (BTA-4F) alkyl side chain. BTA-UD-4F with alkyl side chain exhibited the highest occupied molecular orbital and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital of 5.40 and 3.91 eV, respectively. Therefore, BTA-4F blended with polymer PM7 exhibited a PCE of 8.26%, open-circuit voltage (Voc) of 0.76 V, a short-circuit current density (Jsc) of 18.04 mA/cm<sup>2</sup>, and fill factor (FF) of 62.23%. BTA-UD-4F blended with polymer PM7 exhibited a PCE of 9.12%, Voc of 0.71 V, Jsc) of 21.08 mA/cm2, and FF of 62.04%. BTA-UD-4F showed better device performance and higher solubility compared to BTA-4F.

The most common for starting a single phase induction motor is to install a starting condenser and a centrifugal switch in series with the auxiliary winding. Though this method is simple, life of single phase induction motor is short because of malfunction of a starting condenser and a centrifugal switch and efficiency improvement has limitation. In this paper, the starting characteristics of SPIM is improved by sequence voltage control strategy of auxiliary winding in removing a starting condenser and a centrifugal switch. Finally, the excellent starting performance of SPIM is shown through simulation and experimental results.

Side-chain properties of π-conjugated wide bandgap (WBG) polymers have been widely studied for application in all-polymer solar cells (all-PSCs), but the siloxane functionalized side-chains based polymers has been rarely reported. In this regard, we systematically explored a π-conjugated WBG polymer with a distinct side-chain of siloxane functionality for high performance all-PSCs. We found that the π-conjugated WBG polymer (Si-BDT) has good absorption spectra with polymer acceptor (P(NDI2OD-T2)), high charge carrier mobility and enhanced bulk-heterojunction morphology. When the polymer with siloxane functionalized side-chain had power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 7.54% with significantly enhanced photocurrent and fill factor. Notably, the additive-free Si-BDT:P(NDI2OD-T2) exhibits stable characteristics. These results demonstrate that siloxane functionalized side chains are a promising strategy to design new π-conjugated polymers toward the stable all-PSCs.
