하비프러너(Hobby-preneur) 사례를 통해 본 일-삶 균형(WLB)의 의미 연구

일-삶 균형(WLB) 연구는 일-가정 ‘갈등’(WFC)에서 출발해 ‘균형’에 대한 담론으로, 가정 외 여가(leisure), 성장(growth) 등을 포함하는 삶(life) 전반을 다루는 분야로 확장되어왔다. 또, 최근에는 ICT의 발달로 원격-유연근무가 확대되고, 1인 창업이 활성화되는 등 일을 둘러싼 환경이 변하면서 일-삶 균형에 대한 지속적인 재해석이 이뤄지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 일-삶 균형이 당대의 일과 삶의 양태를 반영하는 동시대적 개념이라는 점에 착안하여, 여가의 의미와 중요성이 커지는 지금 시대의 맹아적 현상인 취미를 직업으로 발전시킨 하비프러너(hobby-preneur)를 통해, 일-삶 균형의 현재적 의미를 탐색해보았다. 특히 하비프러너는 좋아서 하는 여가와 직업으로서의 일이 내용상 중첩되는 사례인데, 이로부터 외견상 같은 활동 안에서 일과 삶(여가)의 경계는 어디인지, 균형의 의미는 무엇이고, 일의 본질은 무엇인지에 관해 심층적으로 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 하비프러너에 해당하는 4명의 연구참여자를 대상으로 심층 면담 기법으로 질적 자료를 수집하고, 현상학적 방법론으로 자료를 분석하여, 4가지 주제묶음과 12가지 주제를 발견하였다. 그 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 도출하였다. 첫째, 일-삶 균형 경험의 본질은 일과 삶의 물리적 균형이 아닌, 내용적, 가치적 통합 상태에 있다. 둘째, 이와 같은 일-삶의 내용적, 가치적 통합을 만드는 데 있어서 결정적 영향을 미치는 요인은 일과 삶에 대한 통제력의 소유 유무이다. 셋째, 이처럼 일-삶의 내용적, 가치적 통합 상태에 있는 경우에는 성장(growth)의 의미와 여가의 의미도 그 본질에 가까운 방향으로 변하게 된다. 그 외 최근에 학술지에 처음 소개된 하비프러너의 개념에 관한 재해석과 후속 연구를 위한 제언으로 연구를 마무리하였다. The study of work-life balance (WLB) has been expanded from work-family conflict (WFC) to discourse on balance including life, leisure, and growth. Recently, the change in working environments such as remote and flexible working, solo-entrepreneur emerged from ICT (Information and Communication Technology) development, thus continuous reinterpretation of work-life balance is being carried out. This study explores the present meaning of work-life balance through Hobby-preneur who developed hobby as a profession. Hobby-preneur can be interpreted as a embryonic figure of life in the present era which expands the meaning and importance of leisure, given that work-life balance is a contemporary concept that reflects daily work-life style. Hence, Hobby-preneur is a case of whose work is the same as life (leisure) activity. Through this study we were able to look deeply from the internal experience of the parties on where the boundary between work and life is, what is the meaning of balance, and what is the essence of work. This study was conducted to find four themes and 12 meaning units by collecting qualitative data through in-depth interview techniques and analyzing data using phenomenological methodology for four participants who can be named as Hobby-preneur. The following conclusions were drawn: First, the essence of work-life balance (WLB) experience is in a state of content and value integration, not a physical balance between work and life. Second, the determinant factor in creating such content and value integration of work-life is whether they have the control over work and life. Third, in the case of the integrated state of work-life, the meaning of individual growth and the meaning of leisure also change in the direction close to its essence. The study includes a reinterpretation of the concept of Hobby-preneur, which was first introduced in a journal of arts management, and a suggestion for follow-up research.
