Increased demand for parts with micro-pattern structure made of metals, ceramics, and composites in various fields such as medical ultrasonic sensors, CT collimators, and ultra-small actuator parts. Micro powder injection molding (PIM) is a technology for manufacturing micro size, high volume, complex, precision, net-shape components from either metal or ceramic powder. In the present study, a standard mold with a variable insert core capable of producing various micro patterns was investigated. An injection molding test was performed on a standard mold using a line type micro-pattern core having an aspect ratio of 2, a slenderness ratio of 70, a pattern size of $200{\mu}m$ 수식 이미지, and a pattern spacing of $150{\mu}m$ 수식 이미지. During the filling process, the deformation of the mold with large aspect ratio and slenderness ratio was analyzed by the experiment and the numerical simulation according to the position of the gate. We proposed a mold structure that minimizes mold deformation by gate modification and enables uniform pattern filling behavior.

A unique fabrication method for a hemisphere-shape nickel micromesh is proposed and demonstrated. A PDMS mold was fabricated using a microcasting process and then used as a flexible mold in nickel electroplating. The fabricated nickel micromesh was well formed and connected without any cracks within the entire mold area. The experimental results veri tied that the fabricated features of the nickel micromesh accurately followed the shape of the microstructures and the curvature of the PDMS mold. This unique fabrication method provides an alternative means to produce three-dimensional metal microstructures.

The kinetics and mechanism of the reactions of thiophenyl dimethylacetates (TDA) and trimethylacetates (TTA) with benzylamines in acetonitrile are studied. The reactions are first order in both the amine and the substrate. Relatively large values of ${\beta}X(\betanuc$ = 1.1-1.5; TDA and 1.1-1.5; TTA) and ${\beta}Z({\beta}lg$ = -1.8~-2.0; DTA and -1.3~-1.6; TTA) for benzylamines, significantly large kH/kD values (=1.2-1.5; DTA and 1.2-1.5; TTA) involving deuterated benzylamines, and large ${\rho}XZ$ (=0.82; TDA and 1.05; TTA) values are interpreted to indicate stepwise acyl transfer mechanism, but with the hydrogen bonded four center type transition state for benzylamine. The relatively greater magnitudes of ${\rho}XZ$ and the secondary kinetic isotope effects involving deuterated nucleophiles are in line with the proposed mechanism.

Petrous apicitis is an extension of infection from the mastoid air cell tract into petrous apex. Petrous apicitis, a potentially fatalcomplication of suppurative otitis media, presents a variety of symptoms. But the classical findings of petrous apicitis, calledGradenigos syndrome that include abducens nerve palsy, deep facial pain and acute suppurative otitis media, rarely occur.Gradenigos syndrome can be treated with surgery, but the advent of antibiotics and early imaging study allow conservativetreatment in some uncomplicated cases. With the widespread use of antibiotics, petrous apicitis has become an uncommon disease.So most physicians have little clinical experience in their diagnosis and treatment of this disease. We present a case of Gradenigossyndrome, which was unresponsive to conservative treatment. We provide here details of our experience of treating thepatient with surgery without complication. Nickel micromesh sheets with circular microhole array were designed and fabricated and their water-proof abilities were characterized. The micromesh enabled the material waves, including sound and light waves, to pass through the microholes, but repelled water. Reducing the hole size and increasing the lattice width of the micromesh are necessary to improve the water-proof ability.

The syndrome of crocodile tear refers to an abnormal gusto-lacrimal reflex where any gustatory stimulation produces excessive tearing as well as salivation. It is a relatively rare syndrome that has mainly been observed after a recovery from a peripheral facial nerve palsy, surgery of the acoustic neuroma or in a congenital syndrome. The most commonly accepted mechanism for the pathogenesis of the crocodile tear syndrome is that of aberrant regeneration of nerve fibers or that of transaxonal transmission. Crocodile tear syndrome may be effectively treated by intraglandular injections of botulinum toxin. Authors experienced a case of crocodile tear syndrome that occurred after the removal of acoustic neuroma;it was treated successfully by injection of botulinum toxin into the lacrimal gland. We report this case with the related literatures.

Surface wettability on the micro nano multi-scale structures has been examined. To evaluate the influence of the nano structures on the contact angles, we fabricated two different kinds of nano structures: bump-type and tip-type nano structures. Bump-type and tip-type nano structures were fabricated by reactive ion etching (RIE) and deep reactive ion etching (DRIE) processes, respectively. For the hydrophobic coating, plasma polymerized fluorocarbon (PPFC) was finally deposited onto the fabricated structures. The fabricated micro nano multi-scale structures showed a very high contact angle, ca 170°.
