        인두와 골격성 부정교합에 관한 방사선학적 연구

        This comparative study was designed to ascertain whether any differences existed between skeletal class Ⅱ malocclusion (<ANB 5°) and skeletal class Ⅲ malocclusion (<ANB -1°) with respect to the craniofacial morphology and nasopharyngeal area. A total of 121 males and 125 females representing different ages were examined. For the purpose of comparison, each malocclusion was classified by sex, and further subdivided into three different age groups; l2-years-of-age-and-under, l3-to-15-years-of-age, l6-years-of-age-and-over. The conclusions were as follows; 1. There were no differences in the area of bony nasopharynx between both types of malocclusion. 2. As a whole, the areas of adenoids of skeletal classⅡ malocclusion tended to be larger than those of skeletal class Ⅲ malocclusion. However, statistically significant differences were found only in the l2-years-of-age-and-under groups of both sex. 3. The areas of nasopharyngeal cavity of skeletal class Ⅲ malocclusion were in general larger than those of skeletal class Ⅱ malocclusion. Statistically significant differences, however, were discovered in the l2-years-of-age-and-under group as well as the l3-to-15-years-of-age group of male. 4. There were significant differences with respect to the rate of area of adenoids to nasopharynx in the l2-years-of-age-and-under groups of both sex and l3-to-15-years-of-age group of male. 5. Cranial base angle showed positive correlation with the depth of nasopharynx and negative correlation with the height of bony nasopharynx. 6. <SNA, <SNB and <ANB were not associated with the size of bony nasopharynx, adenoids and pharyngeal cavity.

        On the Perception of Child Learners’ English Vowels in a Context of Minimal Input

        This study investigates the extent to which the four variables of initial age of L2 learning, length and frequency of private English education, and percentage use of L2 have influence on the discrimination of the three English vowel pairs /iy-ɪ, uw-ʊ, ɛ-æ/, which tend to pose problems for Korean children learning English in an instructed minimal input context. In this study, a questionnaire inquiring of the four variables and a discrimination task of the three vowel contrasts were conducted to forty-nine 4th graders in elementary school. The four variables predictive of the attainment of L2 pronunciation in naturalistic SL settings were found not to have significant influence on the perception of the six vowels by the participants. Based on this result, the importance for the explicit teaching of L2 pronunciation in an instructed FL context and the need for L2 teachers’ education in the fields of phonetics, phonology, and L2 pronunciation teaching were emphasized.

        Age Effects on the Acquisition of L2 Vowels in an FL Context

        This study attempts to determine whether the earlier learners begin learning an L2, the less likely they are to perceive the L2 sounds as instances of a single L1 sound category and whether the L2 learners' ability to identify L1-L2 sound differences predicts the accurate perception of the L2 sounds, as the Interaction Hypothesis (IH) proposes. For these, a Korean-English vowel identification task and an English vowel perception task were conducted to 36 Korean children and 36 Korean adults who had learned English in a foreign language context. The results of the Korean-English vowel identification task provided evidence for the IH in part in that the earlier they begin learning English, the less likely Korean vowels are to mask Korean-English vowel differences, although with age, age-of-onset effects on the identification of L1-L2 vowel differences decrease. It was also revealed that the Korean-English vowel identification and the relationship of English learners' ability to detect Korean-English vowel differences with the perception of English vowels varied more significantly in accordance with the participants' length of English education than their age of the onset of English learning. The children and the adults, however, exhibited similar patterns in that their Korean-English vowel identification and English vowel perception were mediated byte Korean vowel system and phonological processes. Based on the results of this study, pedagogical implications were suggested.

        현대중국어 동사복사문의 시태조사 "了" 연구

        本文就現代漢語重動句帶體標記"了"的問題進行了硏究,幷試圖將連動句中一般後邊的動詞帶體標記"了"的機制適用於重動句。 重動句的兩個短語結構中, VP₁表示背景, VP₂表示前景, VP₁的現實性無法保證VP₂的現實性。 因此, 只有充當語義焦點兼前景的VP₂才可帶體標記"了", 同時還可保證VP₁和VP₂的現實性。 령外, 還運用作爲指動補語(語義指向爲動詞的補語)的體標記"了"和所有的指動補語形態化過程中都經曆了一個相當長的其後排斥賓語的時期的論調, 說明了重動句形成的過程及重動句的體標記"了"出現在動補結構後的理由。

        Korean Learners’ English Stress Placement and Vowel Reduction in Morphologically Related Words

        This study considered how Korean learners place stress in morphologically related words in English according to suffix type and phonological opacity. It also examined how Korean learners treat stress and vowel reduction in morphologically related words. For these, the participants’ stress productions in the three types of nonsuffixed bases were compared with one another and with associated morphological derivatives, and the vowel of nonsuffixed bases was compared with the corresponding vowel of opaque nonneutral derivatives. The results of this study were as follows: 1) The participants acquired stress of neutral bases more readily than that of nonneutral bases and they placed stress in transparent nonneurtral bases more accurately than in opaque nonneutral bases; 2) The participants showed higher accuracy for stress of transparent nonneutral derivatives than that of neutral derivatives; 3) The stress assignment in neutral and transparent nonneutral derivatives was found to be easier than in opaque derivatives; 4) The participants assigned stress more accurately in nonsuffixed bases than associated neutral derivatives while they exhibited higher stress accuracy for transparent and opaque nonneutral derivatives than for bases; and 5) The participants acquired stress placement earlier than vowel reduction in unstressed syllables and treated stress shift and vowel reduction as independent processes. On the basis of these findings, the pedagogical implications were suggested.

        A Study on Factors Affecting the Perceptual Accuracy of L2 Vowels in an FL Context

        This paper attempts to review previous research on factors affecting L2 phonological acquisition and to provide an experiment to determine whether or not factors such as gender, age of L2 learning, length and frequency of private L2 instruction and amount of L2 use have significant influence on the discrimination of the English vowel contrasts /iy/-/ɪ/, /uw/-/ʊ/ and /ɛ/-/æ/ by native Koreans learning English in a foreign language context and, if so, to what extent. Gender, age of L2 learning, and length and frequency of private L2 instruction were found not to be significant predictors of the perceptual accuracy of the English vowel contrasts. On the other hand, it was revealed that amount of L2 use affected the discrimination of the English vowels significantly, suggesting that it is important for L2 learners to have enough opportunities to use the L2 to benefit in the perception of L2 segmental contrasts. Directions for future study were suggested on the basis of the findings of this study.
