In order to manufacture high quality goods, the engineers who will design them has to have board technical experience as well as profound engineering knowledge. The engineers also be able to design and manufacture well development goods base on new advanced technology. Design process can be defined as transforming activity raw material into finished producted for human needs. The wealth of nation depend on its ability to retrieve natural resources and manufacture goods. Its ability, creation of goods, is most fundamental component of economic wealth of rich country. The rich countries have combine their own design knowledge with computer technology and create new effective design process. In this paper, one of the useful and practice design process created for railway industry is introduced. Base on the concept of this design process, the automatic wheelchair lifter design for railway vehicle is performed.

A first evaluation of the possibilities of high speed trains in conventional railway in Korea have been investigated. The radius of curvature was considered the major problem with high-speed trains in Korea. If KNR(Korea National railway) likes to increase the speed, is then whether KNR shall construct straigthen the track or develop a train that can reduce travel time in curves. The research concerns structural design of train car-body is to reduce heavy stress concentration. Using 3D solid modeling, Finite Element analysis and shape optimization combined with powerful postprocessing, graphical display and animation to achieve complete and accurate design and performance will be carried out further project. Main purpose of this project is to provide korean tilting train car body"s conceptional design. Based on first year research results, the design of car-body will be performed by train manufacture.

On curved rail the speed of train must be reduced in order to keep riding comfort. So, the train has the speed limitation in conventional railway line. But if the train has the tilting mechanism, the speed of train is able to be increased while maintaining the riding comfort. Generally, the tilting train is faster than the non-tilting train about 30% in curve.<br/> The tilting train technology and reduction of travel time has been carefully investigated by KRRI (Korea Railroad Research Institute). Based on the primary research result from KRRI, tilting control system and tilting operation interface are considered it score technology to apply tilting train to Korean conventional railway. In this paper application of non-tilting pantograph to tilting system will be introduced. New type of bogie frame and system modification of vehicle are invented to apply non-tilting pantograph to tilting train.

궤간가변대차는 한국과 러시아의 물류 운송을 위하여 개발된 차량이다. 한국, 러시아, 유럽의 다른 철도 시스템에서 운영되어야 하므로 차량의 운영 신뢰성과 고장 점검의 판단은 매우 중요하다. 본 논문에서 궤간가변 대차의 축소형 모형을 제작하여 그 작동성을 기초 분석 하였으며 이를 근거로 궤간가변대차에서 발생할 수 있는 고장모드를 FTA기법으로 제시하였다. 축소 구동모형은 궤간가변대차의 모든 기능을 보여주고 실제 차량에서 발생할 수 있는 고장을 적은 비용으로 예측하게 해준다. 본 논문에서 제시하는 고장유형 분석의 결과는 궤간가변이 이루어지는 중요한 고장을 명시하고 있고 안전과 밀접한 관계를 가지는 기계적 고장의 유형을 기술하고 있다. 이 결과는 향후 궤간가변대차의 현장 운영 시 유지보수 기술로 활용될 예정이다. The variable gauge bogie System is designed to develop cargo system between Korea, Russia and European countries. It must be reliability functioned and predictable its operational system. In this paper, scale model of variable gauge bogie is built and analyzed operational failure mode based FTA(Failure Tree Analysis) method. Scale model of variable gauge bogie is make possible to predict failure patterns as well as functional problems with low research cost. The operational failure mode of variable gauge bogie is presented and defined to improve system maintenance reliability under railway maintenance guideline and design improvement.
