Recently LPG engine is developed to fulfill such new requirements as improved fuel efficiency in additional to further reduced exhaust emission. This experimental study is conducted to analyze spray characteristics for pintle type injector used in a LPLi (Liquid Phase LPG injection) engine. Since spray parameters including penetration length and spray angle make a role to design injector and engine intake system, spray visualization experiment is performed under atmosphere ambient and charging condition using Mie scattering method. From the experimental result under various LPG formation, the increased propane component decreases penetration length because boiling point of propane is lower than butane. To simulate intake charging condition in MPI engine, spray visualization is performed under high pressure condition. As a result, as ambient pressure is increased from atmosphere to 3.0 bar, penetration length is decreased. However, as ambient pressure is increased from atmosphere to 3.0 bar, spray angle is increased

Most fractures of the shaft of the femur are caused by high-energy trauma. It would be expected that in many cases the ipsilateral knee ligaments are subjected to severe stress. In these days, early diagnosis and proper treatment of combined ligament injury in ipsilateral femoral shaft fracture become to be important and are possible by arthroscope and MRI. We retrospectively reviewed a series of 97 patients with 97 fractures of the femoral shaft from March 1995 to December 1997. Demonstrable ipsilateral knee ligament laxity was present in 10(l 1.3 per cent) of these patients. There were 7 males and 8 left femur fractures. Eight of them were injured by traffic accident. Ten patients were followed for an average months. PCL injuries were five cases and ACL and MCL injuries were two cases each and posterolateral instability was one case. Early diagnosis was possible in MCL and ACL cases but diagnosis was delayed to average 10 months post-accidentally in PCL injuries. MCL injuries and one ACL injuries were treated conservatively and one ACL and one PCL avulsion fracture were treated with pull-out suture technique and another 4 PCL injuries were treated with reconstruction using bone patella tendon bone. From this study, we advocate careful assessment of the knee, especially PCL injury in all cases of fracture of the femur caused by high-energy trauma.

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of the Inside-Out arthroscopic repair technique using minimized skin incision for the peripheral tear of the meniscus. Material & Method : We treated 44 meniscal tears of 39 patients with Inside-Out arthroscopic repair technique using minimized skin incision from December 1995 to November 1997 and evaluated the result retrospectively. Follow-up period was from 23 months to 50 months(average 34.5 months) and patient age was from 4 to 55(average 26.7). Twenty cases(45%) were injured during sports and 34 cases(77%) were chronically injured case. Ninteen cases(43%) were combined with ligament injuries and among them, 18 cases had an anterior cruciate ligament injury. All cases had peripheral tear and 12 cases were bucket handle tear and 8 cases were tear of discoid meniscus and 3 cases had meniscal cyst. Result : During follow-up period, 41 cases(95%) were satisfied and had excellent or good results which were based on the evaluation form of Tapper & Hoover’s criteria. Recurrences of meniscal tear were occurred in two cases and they were resutured arthroscopically. As complications, three cases had skin dimplings at the suture site and they were treated with subcutaneous dissection at the out patient clinic. Conclusion : Even if not many cases and short follow-up periods, we obtained good result. Therefore, we recommend the Inside-Out arthroscopic repair technique using minimized skin incision for the peripheral tear of the meniscus in any repairable condition.
