Purpose: Recently accomodations are required to apply universal designs to all the types of rooms in order to increase accessibility to everyone. Especially universal designs are considered as one of the important methods to help disabled users utilizing accomodations with minimizing difficulties. The current research attempted to apply universal designs to ordinary rooms for promoting usage of rooms in accomodations. Methods: The field study were executed about all the types of rooms and shared spaces in 42 accomodations in 14 cities, Also, the managers working in the studied accomodations were asked to answer the online survey about awareness in universal design. Results: In many cases, ordinary rooms are partially renovated for the disabled with adding some convenient facilities. This raises negative recognition for the rooms specially designed for the disabled as well as absence of needs for universal designed rooms. Meanwhile, universal designed rooms have been required not only for the ordinary but also for the disabled. Implications: Regarding adopting universal design to rooms in accomodations, it should be reviewed throughout all the processes from designing to planning.

As Korea enters a rapidly aging society, the issue of universal tourism to the socially disadvantaged has been continuously raised. While preserving the special value of cultural heritage sites, it is necessary to reflect the characteristics of each cultural heritage site, and to create a universal environment such as a barrier-free space that can be used by all citizens beyond disability, age, and gender. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose a direction to create a barrier-free space that can be used by everyone, such as the disabled and the elderly, in consideration of the cultural properties of palaces, tombs, and Jongmyo Shrine. This study comprehensively analyzed the problems of space movement and access, and the level of various human services through a survey on the status of the universal viewing environment of cultural heritage facilities and interviews with managers. The conclusions of this study are as follows. First of all, it is necessary to create a circular viewing path so that you can move and view the entire cultural heritage site, and it is important to remove all steps in the movement path. It is desirable to install ramps and wheelchair lifts in consideration of materials and colors that do not feel different from cultural properties, such as stone or wood, to the extent that they do not damage the cultural property landscape. Various sensory services should be provided in terms of responding to various disorders such as vision and hearing. Conveniences such as hand-touchable miniature models, audio guides including easy commentary, and professional human services such as sign language interpretation should be provided. Finally, it is necessary to establish a guidance system for information on the physical environment, access methods of various services, and the scope of convenience provision.
여객시설의 BF인증지표 자체평가를 통한 인증지표의 문제점 및 개선방향에 관한 연구
류상오,김인순,안성준,박지영 한국의료복지건축학회 2019 의료·복지 건축 Vol.25 No.4
Purpose: This study aims to find directions to improve the barrier-free (BF) certification criteria by assessing the current BF certification system, which is used as a method to improve access to passenger facilities and as a method for universal design planning, and by comparing BF certified facilities with non-BF certified facilities. Methods: This study assesses 20 BF certified facilities and 39 non-BF certified facilities, which were constructed in 2005 and onwards. The results of the assessment are compared and analyzed based on the following three categories: railway stations, urban railway stations and bus terminals. Results: The results of the analysis show that the total scores of the BF certified facilities are higher than those of the facilities that were not BF certified, indicating that the BF certification system is effective. Implication: However, there are some criteria items showing higher scores in facilities that are not BF certified than in BF certified facilities. This suggests the need to improve the BF certification criteria.
Vol.24 No.2
Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to provide logical basis on enlargement of toilet floor space for the disabled by "ACT ON GUARANTEE OF PROMOTION OF CONVENIENCE OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES, THE AGED, PREGNANT WOMEN. ETC" Revised Enforcement regulation [Asterisk 1] (2018.2.10.) and to help with making plans, designs and establishing policies by conducting experimental study with the enhanced floor area regulations. Methods: We conduct Experimental study, field work and interview for this paper. In experimental study, verification of the effective floor area was proceeded by measuring activity space for people in manual wheelchair, electric wheel chair and electric scooter and also reviewed useable area with the space expanded 0.2m both width and depth. In filed work, conducted an observation what other things (ex. sanitary equipment, hand rail and so on) can also affect the active space as well as effective floor space. In the interview, other problems and requirements that were not revealed were experimental study and observation of field work. Results : it's expected to provide better access to toilets for the disabled with the law revision of effective floor area. But, with the usage increasement of enlarged wheel chair and electric wheel chair, expanding side areas of toilet is also highly likely to be required going forward. Implications : Additional research is required on locations of exists and internal arrangement that effect the usage of toilet. It should be led to Universal design by making additional investigation and verification of the users patterns.
