It is possible to suppress voltage drops, power loading fluctuations and regeneration power lapses for DC railway systems by applying an energy storage system. Recently the electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) of the rapid charge/discharge type has been developed and used in wide ranges. The on board energy storage system with supercapacitor for railway vehicles presented in this paper seems to be a reliable technical solution with an enormous energy saving potential. In this paper, an efficient charge and discharge control method of a bidirectional DC-DC converter using the supercapacitor is proposed.

This paper presents a method to identify the equivalent circuit parameters by experiment results of supercapacitor model based on transmission line. In order to validate this method, a model of supercapacitor is verified and implemented by using the PSIM software. Experimental and simulation results are compared to verify the electric modeling of supercapacitors.
극 배치 기법을 이용한 양방향 DC-DC 컨버터의 제어기 설계

In Korean urban transit system, when the railcar starts, the electric power is absorbed from the line, and then the line voltage is instantaneously collapsed to provide a large accelerating torque. On the other hand, when the railcar brakes, the regenerative power is created and it increases the line voltage at the pantograph of the railcar. Therefor, by using the energy storage system near the train, the regenerated power can be saved to this system. The energy storage system is consisted of supercapacitor and a bidirectional DC-DC converter. In this paper, controller design of a bidirectional DC-DC converter based on pole-assignment is proposed. This method can be easy to design controller. Simulation results by using the calculated parameters are presented.

This paper presents how to make controller using frequency-response in power electronics. First, To make controller, a frequency response of plant are showed and then a controller is made as the procedure. That way give the easy method to make controller for power electronic converter.

This paper proposes an input waveform improvement using VIENNA Rectifier(three-phase/level/switch). VIENNA Rectifier is based on the combination of a three-phase diode bridge and dc/dc converter. It features low input current ripple and sinusoidal mains current form.

This paper presents a PID controller and PI-PI dual loop controller for a single-phase inverter. The control parameters of conventional controllers are very difficult to make. But parameters of controllers based on pole-assignment are easy to make. Simulation results are presented for the system under R-L load, no load and change reference voltage.

This paper proposes a robust digital controller for PWM voltage source inverter using CRA method. The usual inverter controller for the operation of constant voltage and constant frequency consists of a double looped PI controller for the outer voltage controller and the inner current controller, of which the order of characteristic polynomial is high and so the gain tuning is difficult. Considering the limited switching frequency of the devices and sampling frequency of the digital controller, the gain tuning is usually based on the engineering experiences with the try and error method. In this paper, the error-space approach is used to get the system model including the controller with low order, and the characteristic ratio assignment (CRA) method is proposed for the design of robust controller which has the advantage to design the optimal gain to meet the referenced response and overshoot within the limit range. The PSiM simulation and experience results are shown to verify the validity of the proposed controller.
