Vol.8 No.1
The purpose of this study is to examine children-directed group games using picture book influences on young children`s perspective taking abilities and creativity. The subject in this study were 50 five-years-old children in M Kindergarten located in Incheon. Among them, 25 young children were assigned to an experimental group, and the rest 25 young children were assigned to a control group. The experimental group carried out the children-directed group games using picture books 16 times for 8 weeks, while the comparative group carried out the teacher-directed group games. The collected data were analyzed by ANCOVA using SPSS 18.0 program. The study finding are as the followings. First, there were statistically significant differences between the experimental group and comparative group in young children’s perspective taking abilities. The experimental group scored higher than the comparative group in taking abilities of other’s intention perspective, other’s thought perspective, and emotional perspective that were the subfactors of perspective taking abilities. Second, there were statistically significant differences between the experimental group and comparative group in creativity. The experimental group scored higher than the comparative group in fluency, flexibility, originality and imagination that were the subfactors of creativity. The results showed that the children-directed group games using picture books gave positive effects on the improvement of young children’s perspective taking abilities and creativity. The study implies that it is necessary to provide a lot of children-directed group games using picture books in order to enhance young children’s perspective taking abilities and creativity.
