        Effect of Ankle Stabilization Training Using Biofeedback on Balance Ability and Lower Limb Muscle Activity in Football Players with Functional Ankle Instability

        Purpose: This study focuses on influence of ankle stabilization training on balance ability and lower limb muscle activation of soccer player with functional ankle instability. Methods: Subjects were grouped into ankle stabilization training group using biofeedback comprised of 15 subjects and general exercise group of 15. The training was conducted for 30 minutes, 3 times a week for 8 weeks in total. All 30 football players conducted plyometric training for 30 minutes before main training. To evaluate balance ability, biorescure was used to measure whole path length and surface area and surface electromyography (EMG) system was used to measure tibialis anterior, tibialis posterior, and soleus to evaluate lower limb muscle activation. Results: The experiment group showed significant difference to the comparison group in regard of whole path length and surface area which represents balancing capability and muscle activation of tibialis anterior, tibialis posterior, and soleus. Conclusion: Therefore, ankle stabilization training using biofeedback is more effective in enhancing balance ability and lower limb muscle activation than general exercise.

        전신진동운동이 뇌졸중 환자의 다리 근활성도와 보행능력에 미치는 영향

        Background: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of whole body vibration (WBV) exercise on lower extremity muscle activity and gait ability in stroke patients. Methods: For this study, 30 stroke patients participated in this study and they were divided into WBV exercise group and sham-WBV exercise group, each group in which consisted of 15 patients. WBV group and sham-WBV group was performed by the patients for five times a week, for six weeks. sEMG was used to measure lower extremity muscle activity. Changes in the activities of the muscles, such as the vatus lateralis (VL), vastus medialis (VM), bicep femoris (BF), gastrocnemius (GCM) muscle, were analysis. Motion analysis system was used to measure gait ability. Gait ability measured the stride length (SL) and walking velocity (WV). Results: According to the results of the comparisons between the groups, after intervention, lower extremity muscle activity of VL (p<.01), VM (p<.01), GCM (p<.01). SL, WV was significant between the group (p<.01). Conclusion: This study showed the WBV exercise is effective for improving increase of muscle activity and gait ability in stroke patients.

        경두개직류자극을 결합한 동적스트레칭 운동이 축구선수의 근활성와 점프수행력에 미치는 영향

        Purpose : The purpose of this study was to provide the effective method for exercise therapy in soccer player. Methods : 30 soccer players were recruited for subjects. The subjects were divided to dynamic stretching exercise combined tDCS (Group Ⅰ), dynamic stretching exercise combined Sham-tDCS (Group Ⅱ) of which 15 subjects were randomly allocated. The subjects were given 3 hour of soccer skill and performance and additionally given 20 minutes of dynamic stretching exercise combined tDCS and sham-tDCS for each group, five times a week, for 6 weeks. Their muscle activity and jump performance were analyzed before the intervention. After 6 weeks of the intervention, the mentioned parameters were measured once more for between-group analysis. Results : Comparative analysis of the muscle activity and jump performance between the groups showed statistically significant difference. Conclusion : Such results revealed that dynamic stretching exercise combined with tDCS is effective in muscle activity and jump performance. Based on the current study, more effective program is to be proposed for neurologic and musculoskelectal disorder as well as soccer player. Based on the current study, studies that incorporates various combine of variable is required for development of effective tDCS program. Purpose : 본 연구는 축구선수의 운동치료에 효과적인 방법을 제공하데 목적이 있다. Methods : 연구대상자는 축구선수 30명을 선정하였다. 대상자는 경두개직류자극을 결합한 동적스트레칭 운동군과 거짓-경두개직류자극을 결합한 동적스트레칭 운동군으로 나누어 각각 15명씩 배치하였으며, 하루 20분, 주 5회, 6주간 중재하였다. 사전평가로 근활성도와 점프수행력을 측정하였고 6주후 재평가 하였다. Results : 근활성도와 점프수행력을 비교한 결과 그룹Ⅰ이 그룹Ⅱ와 비교하여 유의한 차이를 보였다. Conclusion : 본 연구를 통해 경두개직류자극을 결합한 동적스트레칭 운동이 근활성도와 점프수행력에 효과적임을 알아다. 이번 연구를 바탕으로 축구선수 뿐만 아니라 신경계 및 근골격계 장애에도 적용될 것으로 생각된다. 향후 본연구를 바탕으로 경두개직류자극 프로그램 개발을 위한 다양한 변수의 조합된 연구가 요구된다.

        전신진동운동이 뇌졸중 환자의 균형 및 하지 근활성도에 미치는 영향

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of whole body vibration (WBV) exercise on balance and lower extremity muscle activity according to different intensity of vibration in stroke patients. Methods: Thirty subjects were randomly divided into three groups: experimental group II (n=10), III (n=10), and control group I (n=10). Each subject was exposed to three WBV conditions, as follows: 1. no WBV (group I), 2. 10 Hz (group II), 3. 30 Hz (group III) in semi squat position. The exercise program was conducted for six weeks (five times per week; 16 minutes per day). Subjects were measured on balance (limited of stability: LOS) and lower extremity muscle activity. Results: Significant difference in balance and lower extremity muscle activity was observed in the experimental group (II, III), compared with the control group (I). Results of post-hoc analysis, showed a significant difference in balance (LOS) in on group II and group III compared with group I, but no significant difference in on group II compared with group III, and a significant difference in lower extremity muscle activity in on group II and group III compared with group I, and a significant difference on in group II compared with group III. Conclusion: WBV exercise may be helpful in improvement of balance and lower extremity muscle activity in stroke patients.

        기능적 전기 자극을 이용한 생체되먹임 융합 자세조절 훈련이 뇌졸중 환자의 근활성도와 균형 능력에 미치는 영향

        The muscle activity and balance ability of the acute stroke patient has been checked by the functional electrical stimulation using biofeedback fusion postural control training in this study. Functional electrical stimulation using biofeedback fusion postural control training have been implemented on 15 trainees and general biofeedback fusion postural control training have been implemented on another 15 trainees for 30 minutes at 5 times per week during 8 weeks, and vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, rectus femoris and biceps femoris have been measured using the biceps femoris to evaluate the muscle activity of the lower extremity. The moving surface area, whole path length and limited of stability have been measured using biorecue to measure the balance ability. There was statistically meaningful difference on the vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, rectus femoris and biceps femoris in the muscle activity of the lower extremity and there was statistically meaningful difference on surface area, whole path length and limited of stability in the balancing ability. Based on above, it is realized that the functional electrical stimulation using biofeedback fusion postural control training is more effective than the general biofeedback fusion postural control training on the improvement of the muscle activity of the lower extremity and the balance ability. 본 연구에서는 기능적 전기 자극을 이용한 생체되먹임 융합 자세조절 훈련을 중재하여 급성기 뇌졸중 환자들의 다리 근활성도와 균형 능력에 미치는 효과에 대하여 알아보고자 하였다. 뇌졸중 환자는 기능적 전기 자극을 이용한 생체되먹임 융합 자세조절 실험군 15명과 일반적인 생체되먹임 융합 자세조절 대조군 15명으로 나누어 8주간 주 5회, 30분간 시행하였고, 다리 근활성도를 평가하기 위해 근전도를 이용하여 가쪽넓은근, 안쪽넓은근, 넙다리곧은근, 넙다리두갈래근를 측정하였다. 균형 능력을 측정하기 위해 Biorecue를 이용하여 균형 능력을 측정하였다. 다리 근활성도 비교에서는 가쪽넓은근, 안쪽넓은근, 넙다리곧은근, 넙다리두갈래근에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보였고, 균형 능력 비교에서는 신체 중심 이동면적, 총 궤적 길이, 안정선한계에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보였다. 이에 따라 기능적 전지 자극을 이용한 생체되먹임 자세조절 훈련이 일반적인 생체되먹임 자세조절 훈련 보다 다리 근활성도와 균형 능력을 향상시키는데 효과적임을 알 수 있었다.

        The Effects of Whole Body Vibration Exercise on Jump Performance and Quadriceps Muscle Activation in Soccer Player

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of WBV exercise on CMJ and quadriceps muscle activation according to different frequency of vibration in soccer player and also to find effective frequency for leading appropriate treatment reaction. Methods: Thirty three subjects were randomly divided into three groups: the three groups are WBV group using 20 Hz frequency, WBV group using 30 Hz frequency and squat exercise group according to training method. The exercise program was conducted for six weeks. Subjects were measured on CMJ and quadriceps muscle activation. Results: Significant difference in CMJ was observed in the group I, II compared with the group III (p<0.05). Results of post-hoc, showed a significant difference in CMJ in on group I, II compared with the group III, but no a statistically significant difference between group I and II. Significant difference in quadriceps muscle activation was observed in the group I, II compared with the group III (p<0.05, p<0.01). Results of post-hoc, significant difference in quadriceps muscle activation in on group I, II compared with the group III and significant difference between group I and group II. Conclusion: This research intervened WBV for soccer players and compared the differences of CMJ and quadriceps muscle activation; as a result of the effective frequency for improving performance, there is a significant difference in CMJ and quadriceps muscle activation of WBV group with comparison of control group; and it was proved that WBV is effective using 30 Hz frequency for improving quadriceps muscle activation.

        목 통증 환자에게 목-등뼈 가동술과 치료적 운동이 근활성도, 기능장애, 머리척추각에 미치는 영향

        Purpose: This study aimed to determine the effects of cervico-thoracic (C-T) mobilization technique and therapeutic exercise on muscle activity, craniovertebral angle (CVA), and neck disability index (NDI) in patients with neck pain. Methods: : A total of 30 patients with neck pain were included and divided into C-T mobilization combined with Pilates group (Experimental group; EG) and thoracic mobilization and self-exercise (Control group; CG) group; each group consisted of 15 patients. The exercises were performed by patients in both groups three times a week, for four weeks. NDI was used to measure functional disability and sEMGᅠwas used to measure muscle activity. Results: The EG participants showed significant improvement in the CVA and NDI after the intervention than the CG (p<.05). While both groups presented after intervention decreased muscle activity(upper trapezius), there were no statistically significant differences between the groups (p>.05). Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that thoracic mobilization technique combined with Pilates exercise may have beneficial effects on CVA and NDI in patients with neck pain and forward head posture.

        요부 안정화 운동 프로그램이 축구선수의 체간 및 하지 근활성도와 균형에 미치는 영향

        Purpose: The purpose of this study is to provide an efficient and scientific basis for muscle activity (%MVIC) of RA, EO, VL, HS muscles and balance in soccer players through dynamic lumbar stability exercise and static lumbar stability exercise. Methods: This study included 23 soccer players belonging to D University of J province who attended the program for 30 minutes at a time and three times a week for 4 weeks. Of these 13 attended the dynamic lumbar stability exercise (DLSE) program and 10 the static lumbar stability exercise (SLSE) program. The differences between the effects of the dynamic lumbar stability exercise program and static lumbar stability exercise program were analyzed. Results: To increase muscle activity (%MVIC) and balance (WPL), the dynamic lumbar stability exercise program was more effective than was the static lumbar stability exercise program. 1) The %MVIC of trunk muscle (RA &EO) and lower extremitys muscle (VL & HS) increased from before training to after training in the case of the participants who performed the dynamic lumbar stability exercise. 2) The whole path length (WPL) decreased from before the training to after the training. The 2 groups significantly differed in this regard. Conclusion: Dynamic lumbar stability exercise program helps to improve the balancing ability and muscle activity in a soccer players who requires both muscle activity and balance than does any other players.

        Effects of EMG-Biofeedback Using Closed Kinetic Chain Exercise on Q-angle and Quadriceps Muscle Activation in Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome

        Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the effects of electromyographic (EMG)-Biofeedback using closed kinetic chain exercise (EB-CKCE) on quadriceps angle (Q-angle) and quadriceps muscle activation and muscle activation ratio in subjects with patellofemoral pain syndrome and to provide fundamental information on rehabilitation exercise in patellofemoral pain syndrome. Methods: Thirty participants who met the criteria were included. The subjects were randomly divided into three groups: control group (Group I, n=10), semi-squat exercise group (Group II, n=10), and EMG-Biofeedback using closed kinetic chain exercise group (Group III, n=10). Intervention was provided to each group for eight weeks (three times per week; 30 minutes per day). Subjects were measured on Q-angle and quadriceps muscle activation. Results: Significant difference in Q-angle and quadriceps muscle activation was observed in groups II and III compared with control group I (p<0.01). Results of post-hoc analysis showed a significant difference in Q-angle and quadriceps muscle activation in on group III compared with groups I and II. Conclusion: Findings of this study suggest that closed kinetic chain exercise using EMG-Biofeedback that provides real-time biofeedback information on muscle contraction may have a beneficial effect on improvement of Q-angle and quadriceps muscle activation in patellofemoral pain syndrome.
