Unilateral Variation of the Median Nerve in a Human Cadaver’s Arm

Despite numerous reports highlighting variations in the formation and branching of the brachial plexus, limited familiarity persists among physicians, residents, and medical students. This case presents a unilateral anatomical variation discovered during routine educational dissection. In the right arm, the median nerve, instead of the musculocutaneous nerve, exclusively innervated the biceps brachii and brachialis muscles. The absence of the musculocutaneous nerve in this scenario represents a noteworthy anatomical aberration. These variations in the formation, location, and course of the brachial plexus may be attributed to an abnormal embryological relation. This case contributes to the growing understanding of brachial plexus variations, emphasizing their clinical relevance in accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

Purpose: This study was carried out in order to verify actual applicability of mental practice in the clinical field by applying it toParkinson disease patients. Methods: : The number of subjects was three and they were aged between 65 and 69. One year or longer period has passedsince they were diagnosed with Parkinson disease. The baseline A consisted of three sessions. After the baseline period, theresearcher applied mental practice to the subjects once per day, for 20 minutes per each time, for 10 sessions. The no-interventionwithdrawal phase was composed of three sessions. Outcome measures 10 meter walking test(10MWT), timed up and go (TUG)test, 8-figure walk test (8FWT). Results: All results indicated that 10 MWT, TUG, F8WT was improved when compared mental practice(B) to pre base line(A). base line(A) after mental practice intervention(B) was also sustained. Conclusion: As a result of the mental practice, we can know that it helps straight gait, dynamic balance, curved gait to improve.
고유수용성신경근촉진법이 만성 뇌졸중환자의 하지기능에 미치는 효과

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation on the lower extremity function of chronic stroke patients. Methods: The participants consist of 26 chronic stroke patients. They were randomly assigned to either an experimental group (n=13) or a control group (n=13) and engaged in exercise three times per week for eight weeks. The experimental group engaged in proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation exercises and the control group engaged in general mat exercises. To measure lower extremity strength, the sit to stand test and the static balance test (standing on one leg) were used. To measure the stability index (SI) and weight distribution index (WDI), a Tetrax Portable Multiple System (Tetrax Ltd, Israel) was used in addition to a static balance test (standing on one leg). Results: : Lower extremity strength and static balance showed a significant improvement in the experimental group (p<.05). The SI and WDI were significantly improved in the experimental group (p<.05) for tests of standing with their eyes open, standing with their eyes closed, and standing on a sponge with their eyes open. Conclusion: Proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation exercises have confirmed that lower extremity function improves after exercise interventions in chronic stroke patients.
고유수용성 감각 증진 운동이 뇌졸중 환자의 균형 능력에 미치는 영향

Purpose : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of proprioceptive exercise (PE) using a trampoline and a balance board on a balance ability after stroke. Method : Sixteen chronic stroke patients participated. Participants were randomly assigned to the PE group or control group (8 experimental, 8 control). All of participants were in-patients at local rehabilitation centre and had been receiving a traditional rehabilitation program, five days a week. The PE group have additionally undergone for four weeks, three days a week, the PE using a trampoline and a balance board under supervision by a physical therapist but control group was not received any additional program except the traditional rehabilitation program. The position sense test used to assess a proprioceptive sense at a knee joint. The Berg Balance Scale (BBS) and the Timed Up & Go (TUG) test to measure the balance ability were carried out before and after the training. Result : After the training the error of position sense at knee joint of PE group significantly decreased compared to the control group. The PE group demonstrated a significant improvement in the scores of the BBS and TUG. Conclusion : The present study suggests that the PE program using a trampoline and balance board may become a useful tool for enhancing a balance ability in chronic stroke patients through the ennced proprioceptive position senses.
사무직 근로자의 만성요통에 대한 복부 드로잉-인 기법이 요부 기능장애와 균형 능력에 미치는 효과

Objective: To compare the effects of lumbar dysfunction and balance when office workers with chronic back pain performed the abdominal drawing-in maneuver. Methods: A total of 16 office workers with chronic low back pain were included in this study. The participants were randomly divided into two groups: the general and abdominal drawing-in maneuver groups. The intervention was applied for 6 weeks, 3 times a week, 70 min per day. Participants in the general exercise group(n=8) performed the general physical therapy and lumbar flexibility exercise, whereas those in the abdominal drawing-in maneuver group(n=8) performed the general physical therapy and lumbar stabilization exercise using abdominal drawing-in maneuver(3 times/week for 6 weeks). All tests, were the Korean Oswestry disability index (KODI) and balance ability, were completed pre and post-intervention. Results: Significant improvements in the KODI and balance ability test were observed in the abdominal drawing-in exercise group (p<.05), whereas no significant changes (p>.05) were observed in the general exercise group. Conclusion: This study revealed that abdominal drawing-in maneuver can effectively improve the lumbar dysfunction and balance ability of office workers with chronic back pain.
키네시오 테이핑 요법과 상지 협응 운동이 견관절 근막동통증후군의 통증과 기능에 미치는 효과

Purpose: The purpose of this study was conducted to investigate the effects of kinesio taping and coordination exercise on the myofascial pain syndrome and shoulder function. Methods: The patients with myofascial pain syndrome were participated in this study and divided randomly 2 groups. Control group (n=22) was taken only physical therapy program. Experimental group (n=22) was taken physical therapy with Kinesio taping and coordination exercise. The Kinesio taping in experimental group applied on levator scapulae and supraspinatus. The coordination exercise performed in supine position and sitting position on 15 times during 10 seconds each positions. We measured the pain degree using visual analog scale (VAS), pain rating score (PRS), pressure pain threshold (PPT), myofascial pain subjects symptoms index and shoulder motor function using constant shoulder assessment scale; CSA before and after experiment. Results: The significant test of CSA, myofascial pain subjects symptoms index, VAS, PRS according to applying the Kinesio taping and coordination exercise between groups used ANCOVA. In the result following analysis, there was significance on VAS (F=13.071, p=.031), PRS (F=12.130, p=.014), PPT (F=7.378, p=.016), CSA (F=5.302, p=.026) between control group and experimental group. Conclusion: Then, Kinesio taping and coordination exercise has benefit on the VAS, PRS, PPT, CSA in patients with myofascial pain syndrome. So, it may suggest that Kinesio taping combined with coordination exercise will be helpful of the pain and shoulder function improvement the patients with myofascial pain syndrome.
