This paper presents an analytical solution of micro-scale milling process in order to suggest available machining conditions. The size effect should be considered to determine cutting characteristics in micro-scale machining. A feed per tooth is the most dominant cutting condition related to the size effect in micro-scale milling process. In order to determine the feed per tooth in which chips can be formed, machining characteristics such as cutting force and stress distribution are analyzed by utilizing the finite element analysis.

Recently, the demand of precision parts and molds and dies is increasing considerably from the high growth-rate of high-tech industries. Because of that, the improvement of machining accuracy and productivity has been a hot issue and the research and development has been done for that. The tooling system of high speed machining center is changing from BT tooling system to HSK tooling system. It is because static stiffness and machining accuracy of HSK tooling system are higher than those of BT tooling system. In this paper, static and dynamic characteristics of the HSK tooling System are analyzed according to bearing arrangements. In order that, three different models of the HSK tooling system are modelled by using a 3D modeling/design program. More stable bearing arrangement in the three models can be selected by using the FEA(Finite Element Analysis)
