        Electromagnetic Acupuncture to Enhance the Effects of Manual Acupuncture on Recovery from Muscle Fatigue of the Quadriceps

        The aim of this study was to investigate a new method of manual acupuncture that used a magnetic field to stimulate only one acupoint vertically. We developed an eight-channel electromagnetic acupuncture (EMA) system that uses a solenoid-type electrode to insert the manual acupuncture needle into a hole in an electrode. We used a manual acupunc- ture needle for magnetic induction in order to penetrate vertically and deeply into tis- sues. In order to confirm the usefulness of EMA, we investigated the effects of treatment on muscle fatigue after strenuous knee extension/flexion exercises that had been performed by three groups: the nonstimulation, the manual acupuncture, and the EMA groups. Electromyograms showed that the median frequency (MF) in the EMA group had rapidly recovered after 4 minutes (p = 0.608), but that the peak torque had not recovered to the normal state (p < 0.05). Thus, we confirmed that compared with manual acupuncture, EMA resulted in better recovery from muscle fatigue.

        Effects of PEMFs (Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields) Stimulation on Acupoint in Quadriceps Fatigue Recovery

        The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the muscle fatigue recovery using Pulsed Electromagnetic Fields (PEMFs) at an acupoint after strenuous knee exercise. We designed the PEMFs stimulator and electrode as small as possible to stimulate a local point. The magnetic flux was the 30.92mT at the 2Hz. Twenty males participated and were assigned into two groups. We chose the rectus femoris for measuring the EMG and selected LR9 as a stimulation area. Twenty participants performed identical isokinetic exercise for inducing muscle fatigue by using Biodex System 3. All participants spent the recovery period of 20 min. Ten participants were received with PEMFs during recovery period. Each MF was recovered to a normal state during the recovery period in all groups. As a result of the contrast test on the MF, each MF and F.I at post 6 minutes was significantly recovered to each MF and F.I at pre-exercise (P = 0.127, P = 0.138) in the non-stimulation group and PEMFs group was recovered to the MF and F.I rapidly after 4 minutes, with P = 0.166, P = 0.181. The significant treatment effect was not found in peak torque recovery of all groups. We concluded that PEMFs had the therapeutic effect on recovering fatigue.

        Development and Evaluation of a Bio-ion Measurement System on Acupoints for Meridian Diagnosis

        The aim of this study was to develop a new method of measuring the meridian energy potential (MEP) at an acupoint with bioelectrical impedance in order to establish an objective meridian diagnosis. To confirm the reflection of the changes in body composition at acupoints, the changes in the MEP on the bladder meridian before, during and after cupping were observed. Additionally, to evaluate the usefulness of diagnosis, the MEP on the stomach meridian before and after a meal was measured. Significant increases were found at every acupoint during cupping and after eating a meal. It was confirmed that the MEP data reflected changes in body composition at every acupoint and that these changes were associated with functioning of the associated internal organs. In conclusion, we propose the usefulness of this method, which can indicate the state of acupoints.

        Development and Evaluation of the Multi-frequency Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis Analyzer for Estimating Acupoint Composition

        The purpose of this study was to suggest a new method of estimating acupoint composi- tions by using a multi-frequency bioelectrical impedance analysis (MF-BIA) method at 5 kHz, 50 kHz and 200 kHz within 2 cm of acupoints divided into local segments. To verify the system developed, we confirmed the stable occurrence of a constant current at every frequency, regardless of the impedance connected to the electrodes. Moreover, we found left and right distal bicep brachii aponeurosis to be identical by using ultrasound imaging, and we analyzed the repeatability of the findings by making 10 consecutive sets of mea- surements (p > 0.05). To evaluate the practical use of the acupoint composition, we used the MF-BIA analyzer to measure the left and right LU3, LU4, and LU9 at the lung meridian. We confirmed that the potentials generated were equal to the changes in the cell mem- brane function, which were caused by the applied frequency (p < 0.01). We also verified that the MF-BIA analyzer measurements corresponded to the acupoint components by comparing the left and right potentials generated (p > 0.05). Hence, we conclude that the MF-BIA analyzer can be used to estimate the acupoint composition based on the acu-point state

        미약 전자기장을 이용한 말초장애 치료시스템 개발

        당뇨 합병증 등으로 인한 말초혈류 및 신경장애, 수족냉증 및 손가락 관절염, 통증 질환이 증가하고 있으며, 이러한 문제를 개선할 수 있는 손가락 질환 전용 치료기기가 전무한 상태로 이와 관련된 치료기의 개발이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 시변 미약자기장을 이용하여 비침습적으로 말초혈류/신경개선과 손가락 류마티스 치료를 위한 솔레노이드 원통형 코일을 제작하고, 다양한 치료목적에 사용하기 위해서 3가지 자극모드(N, S, N/S)와 자극주파수(0.25, 0.5, 1hz)를 선택할 수 있는 시스템을 설계하였다. 자속밀도 측정 프로브를 솔레노이드의 중심에서부터 거리를 0 ~ 3cm 단계로 자극방식과 주파수별로 자속밀도를 측정하였다. 자속밀도를 측정한 결과, 모든 자극방식과 주파수에서 솔레노이드 내부의 중심(0cm)에 근접할수록 자속밀도가 급격히 증가하였다. 솔레노이드 중심 자속밀도는 N자극 (294.3mT)과 S자극(293.8mT)에서는 1Hz, N/S자극(275.4mT)에서는 0.25Hz에서 가장 높게 측정되었다. 본 논문에서는 다양한 패턴과 강도의 자기장을 이용하여 다양한 손가락 질환을 치료할 수 있는 솔레노이드형 치료기기를 개발하였다. 솔레노이드 내부 자속밀도를 측정함으로써 손가락 말초질환 개선을 위한 미약자기장 시스템의 임상 적용 가능성을 확인하였다. It has increased that peripheral disturbance(blood flow, nerve, Raynaud's phenomenon) and finger rheumatoid arthritis which is caused by the diabetic complications. To improve these pain issues, we proposed new method for the Finger Disease Therapy(FDT). In this paper, we manufactured solenoid cylindrical coil which was only for the FDT using a variable micro-electromagnetic. Also, we designed the Finger Disease Therapy System(FDTS) which could select three stimulation modes(N_pulse, S_pulse, N/S_pulse) and frequency(0.25hz, 0.5hz, 1hz). We used a Teslameter to measure magnetic flux inner solenoid, and measured magnetic flux as distance(0 ~ 3cm) inner solenoid with stimulation modes and frequency. In the results, magnetic flux was the highest in center of solenoid(0cm) for all stimulation modes. Also, the highest magnetic flux was measured as N_pulse(294.3mT), S_pulse(293.8mT) in 1Hz and N/S_pulse (275.4mT) in 0.25Hz, respectively. Therefore, we developed the FDTS using various pattern and intensity for finger diseases therapy, and checked therapy clinic application possibility of the FDTS as measuring magnetic flux inner solenoid.
