This study focuses the development of the computerized controller to overcome drawbacks of the manual quilting machine. In order to enhance the function, a microprocessor-based controller uses AC servo motor and real-time multi-task monitor program. This controller consists of the main CPU unit, I/O interface unit, main axis control unit and XY table control unit. The main program and each task's routine were implemented by an assembly language which obtains the optimum context-switching time and code sizes. In addition to the controller, an automatic pattern generator system was developed. As the results, a regular stitch length and additional functions were obtained by the NC servo quilting machine.

When difficulties occur during anesthesia and the management of intensive care patients, there may not be sufficient time for frequent, accurate and detailed recordings which are essential for medico-legal purposes and the retrieval of information. However, it is during such occasions that the collection of an accurate, detailed record may be nearly impossible. A system, based on the 16 bits microcomputer linked to a Datascope 2000, has been developed to collect cardivascular data on line from a cardiovascular monitor. The computer can be operated by using the main anesthetic record program written in a C language which enables the interrupt facility in the microcomputer and interface card to detect and store data transmitted from the Datascope. Patient's details are entered by manipulating function keys on the keybord. All information is stored on a disc for subequent analysis. A formed graph and text can be displayed on the screen. The graph and all the information entered can be printed out at the end of the operation to form a complete anesthetic record.

This paper describes the design, prototype and performance evaluation of the motor driven hydraulic power steering system controller. The electronic-controlled Motor Driven Power Steering (MDPS) has been completed for improvement of the steering sensation and fuel efficiency. The MDPS system's Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is a speed sensing power steering which produced heavier steering effort depending on the increase of the vehicle speed. Driving situations are automatically divided by the vehicle speed and steering frequency into four modes such as high speed driving, city areas, suburban and winding roads, Power assist can be controlled for the optimum steering sensation in each mode. The following contents outline the overview, control method, design concept and performance of the prototype MDPS's ECU.

Generally, in electrical discharge machining (EDM) of insulating ceramics discharge voltage is high and current is low. On condition that discharge-detection voltage is lower than machining voltage, the discharge lasts longer than pulse width setting. In this paper, we set two types of discharge-detection voltage and examine the surface of workpiece. Beside, we try to machine various insulating ceramics and discuss the results.

In this paper, a new method of ridge orientation extracting from fingerprint images is described, based upon nonstationary directional frequency domain filtering. A comparison is made with the enhanced images in spatial domain used within the automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS) developed by the KIA Information Systems CO., LTD. Use of the proposed enhancement method leads to significant improvements in the speed and accuracy of the AFIS.
