The annual cyclic rites are complex cultural phenomena, from which the educational meanings could be found diversely, The educational meanings of annual cyclic rites which are originally religious ceremonies include three things. The first is 'cultivation of faithful mentality' and the second meaning is 'inspiration of ethical awareness' which strengthens the blood and the territorial ties and distinguishes the upper and the lower. The third is 'inspiration of community awareness' which appears in the annual cyclic rites of community. The annual cyclic rites have played a great role in handing down traditional art such as folk games. Based on this, we can discuss the educational meanings in a side view of 'inspiration of sentiment cultivation' through the arts. During annual cyclic holidays, it is customary not to work but to relax through annual cyclic games. The relaxing rhythm is an operation to replenish for the next work. From this view, the educational meanings of annual cyclic rites are 'productive ones'. Nowadays when one even enjoys games alone owing to individualism, a 'meeting' is very important. Annual cyclic rites which family and relatives hold ancestor-memorial service and visit their ancestral graves on holidays such as the Harvest Moon Day or the New Year's Day of the lunar calendar are the faits for family education to offer a meeting opportunity. Therefore, a meeting opportunity itself has educational meaning. Annual cyclic rites are cultural inheritances. Handing down of cultural inheritance is emphasized as major function of school education. Accordingly, handing down and preserving of annual cyclic rites have necessarily educational meaning. Since annual cyclic rites had been people's life rhythm as living wisdom as well as people's style of living, it is necessary to discuss in term of living history. This can be a basis of practising. As if we are habituated to our culture only when acquainted with our culture from childhood, a way for educational practising of annual cyclic rites are the same. Accordingly, a way for educational practising should be groped from elementary education or even earlier. If culture is a common thing learned, it is a result accomplished through education. So correct handing down of traditional culture should be accomplished through systematic education. Of course, a fact that a space to be got jointed together for annual cyclic rites is not a school but home or community is very important. Therefore, the educational practising of annual cyclic rites should be expanded to systematic education, home and social education from early stage. The social education can show up since it is more open than systematic education. There are ways to educate with exhibition in museum or to make familar with culture experience programs. The fairs for annual cyclic rites games have been held at National Folk Museum or Folk Village on the New Year's Day of the lunar calendar, the Harvest Moon Day and other holidays. These things can become the fairs for traditional culture experience. But there is one thing to be kept in mind. The traditional culture is not the stuffed past but living one to operate ceaselessly for today's culture creation. When the traditional culture is considered as an operating one on the basis of new creation at each age corresponding to history development, the educational meanings of annual cyclic rites can be understood and practised correctly.
