Effective Inventory Policy for VMI System at Discount Retailers

This paper refers to the flow of products from supplier to discount retailers(DRs). Discount retailers prefer frequent delivery of small amount because of limited storage space, while suppliers prefer less frequent delivery of larger amount in order to save transportation cost. In this paper we propose a heuristic algorithm to determine the amount of order and the frequency of delivery which decreases the expected length of stockout. We also evaluate various order policies for Vendor Managed Inventory(VMI) system using simulation with real data.

N/A Products are transported from factories; and picked to be distributed to many customers everyday at the Distribution Centers(DCs). Most DCs of the third party distributors are busy enough to take three hours to match trucks and groups of customers, due to many factors such as additional customer company, increasing number of products, or changing information of customers. In this paper, we present a new method which considers all practical constraints in truck scheduling. The new system comprises data system design and a grouping heuristic algorithm. Results from applying the proposed system to a large DC are reported.

Out-sourcing of both design and build activities is appearing to be one of the most important strategy in recent business activities. Two approaches emerged to deal with data exchange problems: If a company is mandating the use of only one CAX(CAD M/E/T) system, their design productivity will be lower, and if a company uses heterogeneous CAX systems, their data may rapidly become out of control and therefore increase costs. Therefore the strategy of data exchange measured by design productivity and Return on Investment(ROI) is required in each company, when CAX system is implemented currently or in the future. This study suggests a process model of CAX strategy establishment for CAX strategy implementation. Under the definition of CAX strategies, Hybrid Approach Method that is mixture of inductive approach and deductive approach is helpful to find an effective strategy.

Especially, MTO(Make-To-Order) companies take collaborative approaches with their partner companies to make lowprice products and/or technologically low intensive products. The collaborative approach to manufacturing requires collaboration with partner companies for inventory review, production plan, and manufacturing to fulfill customer"s orders. However, frequent changes of partnerships hinder partner companies from sharing production information in effective ways since their information systems have different data architectures and platforms. Therefore, it is required flexible and standardized system integration approach for effective information sharing. This research studies current status and problems of collaborative production system, proposes an architecture for collaborative production systems based on Web Services which is a standard information technology, and discusses expected effects and the vision of Web Services.

Many researchers have studied on Vehicle Routing Problem and developed a lot of effective heuristic algorithms. However these algorithms take no effect on a routing system owing to circumstances beyond their control such as unexpected traffic jam, traffic accident, defect, driver's absence and so on. Hence deciding vehicle routing for delivery depends on drivers experience. This study evaluated the performance of the obtained route from driver's intuition and experience and showed that the route from man was excellent as good as route from effective algorithms. And some guidelines for making the better route from drivers was presented.

In many Printed Circuit Board (PCB) automatic assemblers, parts are supplied by many feeders. The mounting head usually has to move between part feeders. Such travel times often increases the cycle time of the PCB assembly operation. In this paper, in order to minimize the cycle time, we consider an automated part supplier, in which internal timing algorithm determines the exact times of parts to be retrieved to a single feeder to the mounting head. We present an optimal algorithm for such a system. We consider two cases; one for parts with all equal lengths, and the other for parts with unequal lengths.
