This paper was concerned with the investigation on the species of fungi detected in indoor environments. Mycological survey on the wall of buildings and houses in Seoul was performed from December 26, 1983 to February 11, 1984. The collected fungi with the sterilized cotton rod were cultivated and isolated in the Potato-Detrose Agar medium with chloramphenicol. The fungi detected in hospital were Cladosporium sp., Penicillium sp., Alternaria sp., Chaetomium sp. and others. The fungi detected in household were Penicillium sp., Alternaria sp., Aspergillus sp., Cladosporium sp., Rhixopus sp., Trichoderrna sp. and others. The kitchen of household was more contaminated by fungi than the living room and others. In hospital, it was much contaminated by the same species of the aboves on the wall of lobby and refectory. As the above results were recognized, the higher humidity and the more poor ventilation, the more species and amount of fungi were contaminated. Further studies on the identification of pathogenic fungi should be continued, The proper regulation for the hygienic maintenance of indoor environment in household, hospital and other public buildings should be recommended as well.

This study was carried out to investigate air pollution by total suspended particulate(T.S.P.), benzene soluble matter and benzo(a) pyrene in Seoul city. The sampling areas were divided into commercial(Kwang Hwa Moon), indus-trial(Ku Ro Dong) and residensial area(Shin Chon). Sampling was undertaken by High Voulme Air Sampler for four seasons from January 1917 to November 1977. The T.S.P. was extracted with Soxhlet apparatus by benzene and benzo(a) pyrene was separated by column chromatography and thin layer chromatography. The concentrations of benzo(a) pyrene were measured by means of fluorophotometer, and following results were obtained. 1. Arithmetic average concentration for 1-day averaging time of total suspended particulate were $275.6ug/m^3$ in Kwang Hwa Moon, $325.9ug/m^3$ in Ku Ro Dong and $193.0ug/m^3$ in Shin Chon. 2. The seasonal variance of total suspended parti-culate at Ku Ro Dong and Shin Chon were $102.7ug/m^3\;99.6ug/m^3$ respectively and at Kwang Hwa Moon $39.9ug/m^3$. And the concentration of autumn is higher than of that spring at Ku Ro Dong and at Shin Chon, but at Kwang Hwa Moon, the seasonal variance is very little. 3. The concentrations of 50% frequency from geometric mean for 1-day averaging time were $264ug/m^3,\;300ug/m^3\;and\;178ug/m^3$ at Kwang Hwa Moon, Ku Ro Dong and Shin Chon. And geometric standard deviation were 1.27, 1.38 and 1.41 respectively. 4. The concentrations of benzene soluble mater were $26.9ug/m^3$ at Kwang Hwa Moon, $22.7ug/m^3$ at Ku Ro Dong and $15.5ug/m^3$ at Shin Chon, and the ratios to the T.S.P. were 9.8%(range 5.6-14.8%), 7.0%(range 2.4-14.4%) and 8.0%(range 5.5-22.1%) respectively. 5. The concentrations of benzo(a) pyrene were $8.5ug/m^3$ (range $0.8-29.9ug/m^3$) at Kwang Hwa Moon $10.9ug/m^3$(range $1.1-52.0ug/m^3$) at Ku Ro Dong and $5.8ug/m^3$(range $1.5-11.4ug/m^3$) at Shin Chon. 6. The results of this investigation were relatively high in compared with the recommended standards of suspended particulate in air of U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and observed levels of benzo(a)-pyrene in U.S. city.
Cornell Medical Index에 의한 某工業團地 周邊住民의 健康實態 調査硏究
權肅杓,鄭勇,林東九 대한보건협회 1981 대한보건연구 Vol.7 No.1
Cornell Medical Index (C.M.I.) questionare was applied to the residents at the vicinity of an industrial area, in which about 60 heavy industries have been working since the construction in 1963. That area has been come to a dispute on the damage of agricultural products by air pollution. This study was performed to understand the health status of the residents by air pollution during August 1978. The results were as follows; 1. The average numbers of complaints were totally 39.3 items, that was 20.2% of total items. The number of complaints of women was more than that of men. Regardless of sex, the fatigability was the most complaints. While the 49.7 percents of the men complained more than 30 items, the 47.2% of women more than 40 items. 2. As the age was increased, the number of complaints was increased. The most was the age group which was the age group, between 55 to 59 years old, complained 52.7 items of the total and much complained in the physical section as well. As for men, the complaints was increased remarkably over 35 years of age. And the 50 to 54 years of age grop of women was the most in the complaints 3. By job classified, the students was statistically lower level than the farmers in the number of complaints; the number of complaints of the students were 32.8 items and those of farmers were 44.3 items. By residential years classified, over 8 years residents complained average 49.29 items which were the most among residential year groups; there were 49.5 items in men and 49.1 items in women respectively. The 2 to 4 years residents was the least group as complained 32.64 items in total average. 4. The averge concentrations of air pollutants in the subject area were 0.031 ppm (range 0.001~0.189 ppm) of SO_2, 16.0 ppb (range 0.1~79.5 ppb) of HF and 133.7ug/m^3(range 34.0~337.1ug/m^3) of total suspended particulate.
