The age and growth of the skipjack tuna Katsuwonus pelamis were determined using otoliths sampled from a Korean tuna purse seine fishery in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean from January 2005 to September 2006. A total of 312 otoliths were used to estimate the ages of skipjack tuna, which ranged from 1 to 7 years. The relationships be-tween otolith ring radius (R) and fork length (FL) for female, male, and sex combined were FL = 19.74R + 1.50 (r2 = 0.54), FL = 17.66R + 6.35 (r2 = 0.47), and FL = 18.83R + 3.36 (r2 = 0.53), respectively. The back-calculated fork lengths of each age (FLyear) were FL1 = 36.2 cm, FL2 = 43.3 cm, FL3 = 48.3 cm, FL4 = 52.6 cm, FL5 = 56.5 cm, FL6 = 60.8 cm, and FL7 = 63.2 cm. The relationships between fork length (FL) and total weight (TW) for female, male, and sex combined were TW = 0.00001FL3.19 (r2 = 0.95), TW = 0.00001FL3.17 (r2 = 0.95), and TW = 0.000009FL3.23 (r2 = 0.95), respectively. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters of skipjack tuna estimated in this study were L∞ = 77.4 cm, K = 0.176/year, and t0 = -2.569 years.

Scapulothoracic bursitis refers to inflammation of the bursae secondary to trauma or overuse owing to sports activities or work. It usually causes persistent pain and scapulothoracic crepitus by irritation of bursa but can be presented as painless mass around chest wall. We report a case of scapulothoracic bursitis in a baseball pitcher presenting as rapidly growing chest wall mass confused with a soft tissue tumor. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed as a well-demarcated cystic mass situated between the scapula and chest wall. Incisional drainage resulted in complete resolution of the mass within a couple of weeks. Scapulothoracic bursitis may be presented as painless huge mass in overhead sports athlete and one of the differential diagnoses of soft tissue tumor of the chest wall.

Trawl fishing is a major concern worldwide, and there is considerable debate about its impact on marine ecosystems. In this study, we used the vessel monitoring system (VMS) data collected in the southwest Atlantic Ocean from 2016 to 2019 to estimate the fishing effort and trawled area. Spatial distribution of trawl activities according to the latitude and longitude and the hotspots where fishing was concentrated each year were identified. Trawling activities of the Korean vessels were mainly distributed between 40-52°S and 56-63°W. The species caught during the fishing period comprised five Cephalopoda, three Chondrichthyes, ten Osteichthyes, and other fish. The Argentine hake Merluccius hubbsi and Argentine shortfin squid Illex argentinus were the dominant species in the catch.

We analyzed scientific observer data to identify species composition and catch trends of Korean tuna longline fisheries in the Indian Ocean. The data were collected by Korean scientific observers onboard Korean tuna longline fishing vessels in the Indian Ocean from 2010 to 2015. The observers identified 94 species including 5 tuna, 6 billfish, 11 shark, 7 other fish, 5 seabird and 1 sea turtle. Albacore tuna Thunnus alalunga and southern bluefin tuna Thunnus maccoyii were the dominant tuna species, and swordfish Xiphias gladius were the most commonly captured billfish. During the survey periods, 87 seabirds were incidentally bycaught. Black-browed albatross Diomedea melanophris was the dominant seabird species in bycatch, especially in 2010. Cluster analysis showed difference in the species composition of catches between the eastern and western Indian Ocean.
